3D Printer Maintenance After 25,000 hours on an Ender 3 v2 Print Farm. Not as bad as you think!!

  • Over the years I've heard people say stay away from the ender 3 as a print farm candidate. That you will have to do constant maintenance. I can say for a fact that after 25,000 hours of print time and experience with this part farm, this can easily be a one man show with minimal down time if you have the right parts in hand.
    below are the parts I keep in stock for my print farm
    Extruder Fan: amzn.to/3KfoSxU
    Aluminum Bowden Extruder: amzn.to/3OzVx4x
    Gizmodorks PEI Sheet: amzn.to/3OzVx4x
    Silicone Bed Mounts: amzn.to/3xSc0ep
    All Metal hotend: amzn.to/3ENPqoT
    Extruder and Part Cooling Fan Kit: amzn.to/39654A4
    Ender 3 2GT Belt Kit X&Y: amzn.to/3LfrUDF
    Silicone Socks: amzn.to/3OzmuFz
    Extruder Wheel Gear: amzn.to/3Lkm8Aw
    Befenbay Flex Steel Plate: amzn.to/37KgGsj
    0.4mm Nozzle Kit: amzn.to/37MUL3z

    That gunk in the hot end is from something called "hot end gap" which is super common with enders and ender clones. The PTFE isn't perfectly flat against the back of the nozzle so when it starts to melt it squeezes out of that gap and builds up outside of your PTFE tube in the hot end. Starts with underextrusion and then eventually a full clog. Looks like you can even see the effect of it on your green PLA piece you showed. There's a small ring protruding around the middle. That's likely where that gap is in your hot end. Actually I'm surprised PTFE tubing isn't one of your main wear parts but it sounds like you're just replacing entire hot ends when you have an issue. Time is money so I understand, but these could definitely all be cleaned or repaired as well.

    'Lead screw nuts' are also called anti-backslash nuts for anyone searching these online.
    For me the best replacement was an OMG V2.0 extruder that goes directly on top of the hotend. Direct Drive at a minimum weight. Cheers and good luck for the next 25k hours! ;)

    I lunched a print farm shortly after watching your original videos. I have now switched all my Ender 3v2 with sprite pro kits. THEY ARE AMAZING. The kit comes with the carriage and wiring so it is super easy. It was way less matinee and would strongly encourage you to try one. You will be shocked its that much better. Happy Printing my friend!

      Hey Skunk that is awesome that you got started, I am actually in the process of convering all of my Ender 3 v2s to the Biqu H2 extruder. I still have to make a video about it. Biqu had a massive sale so I got them for $50ea! Happy printing!

    If you're exclusively printing that case I would think it could be done just as well with a 0.6mm nozzle which would allow you to print thicker lines and save time?

    • @collect3d
      @collect3d  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      you are correct, the print in place mechanism of the hinge does not come out as well as I would like with a .6mm nozzle. so .4mm works best for me.

    I know this video is getting kind of old but I've worked in Extrusion for over 15 years and that Gunk is from the plastic pigment actually and it burns off some some Plastics are worse than others nylons especially worse than like polypropylene or something like that but yeah certain colors Reds blacks things of that nature tend to build up a lot worse than other colors we ran 24/7 all the time we used to have to replace our dies about every 6 months was our mandatory and they were very expensive with special coatings

    • @collect3d
      @collect3d  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did try it but my hinge mechanism has tight tolerances to get the feedback I want when moving the hinge, with .6mm I was having issues with that so I stuck with .4mm Also by using a .6mm nozzle I was using about 10g more filament which adds up in the long run!

    • @Tanooki60
      @Tanooki60 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@collect3d that's very true, I didn't think about your hinge tolerance.
      I'm in the process of redesign something I'm planning on selling because it uses to much filament with its current iteration, so I definitely understand saving on filament.

    I’ve got the E5Plus… I honestly think the Ender 3V2 is a much better version to run in this fashion. If you’ve used the E5+ have you had any bed leveling issues? That seems to be my main issue with it.

    • @collect3d
      @collect3d  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I havent used an ender 5 before, but any bed leveling issues could be due to the z lead screw, as well as the stock springs, i always update to the silicone bed mounts which are amazing

    So glad I got rid of my Ender 3's and switched to Prusa. I got so tired of constantly have to fix the enders. Always something wrong with one of them in a farm. I learned how to fix them but got tired of doing it after a while. So much tinkering and wasting time that could be spent doing more productive things. Fewer failed prints and wasted filament. The Prusa's I have never have any problems and never get clogs or jams. I haven't had to replace anything on any of them in over 12 months of printing. Yes, they are more expensive but it is soooo worth it.

    To all print farms and influencers.
    Are you ready? Im embarking on a 3d print comunity challenge.
    Name legit print farms.
    How to show they are legit?
    A hidden camera for youtube would be entertaining.
    To sell a 3d print the farm checks licenses and pays royalty to the actual licensed thing owner.
    Owners payment shows.
    Easy. It could be a walk in customer or a online order.
    Failure to license check and pay required royalty is piracy.
    Pirate farms being closed is a big gain for the honest comunities value jobs and businesses.
    Now lets see,
    Name the legit farms?
    Show the hidden camera footage?
    Im thinking i might make a vid to sum up results. Whos actually stepping up and name all the companies im sending this to who didnt. Yes that sounds good.
    I recon 1 week should give the comunity a view on which farms step up and to use.
