And yes, he is capable of getting any bike he wants... But the thing is every bike is made for different purposes and for different kind of people... Hight wise weight Wise and ride wise also...
It's a basic rule of driving any two wheeler that if you cannot put both your legs on ground perfectly, one or two inches of distance from ground is ok, then you should not ride that vehicle.., bike is great the person riding it is also great... It's just that, they both are not made for each other...

True height doesn't matter, only skills matter while riding off-road..
Could you please make a video of seat height of 390adv and Xpulse, as you have both bikes.
A motorcycle has only two wheels. So height of the rider does matter while riding on off road... especially on a bad road with slippery mud and slush in monsoon.

You were right when you said downhill is more difficult than uphill. I remember coming down from Deomali I was scared to touch the clutch because it was so steep. Need to perfect balance for offroading. I'm still learning!

Top of that after loading luggage in longride may also reduce some height issue ... !!! But some other issues like stepping while bike tyre get obstructed against stones with heavy luggage bags will crop up.
