This video was everything I wanted and more when I searched for: Japanese Pokemon Names. Loved all the references so much! Even though I’ve been playing Pokémon since it came out I learned so much from this video! It’s was really interesting and funny! Thanks for taking the time to put this together. 😄
Absolutely! Thank you so much! I'm really happy you Enjoyed this video. It was a lot of fun to research. There's so much interesting information about Pokémon 😄 I spend a lot of time on Bulbapedia reading articles lol
The “gya” in “Gyarados” could also be based on “gyakusatsu,” meaning “to slaughter or to massacre,” in reference to Gyarados’ violent nature. It could also be based on “gyakkō,” meaning “hardship or adversity,” a reference to the Chinese tale of the carp (Magikarp) overcoming all obstacles to go across the legendary Dragon’s Gate and transforming into a dragon (Gyarados).
13:07 Fun fact: Psyduck's and Golduck's names were switched around in the early development of Pokemon Red and Green, but were ultimately put like they are today (for unknown reasons). They would've been much more fitting though, because Psyduck is more gold colored than Golduck, and Golduck looks like a better user of psychic abilities because of the enchanted jewel on its forehead.😉🦆🔮
22:19 You also probably knew that the word "tamago" was used for the famous virtual pet Tamagotchi, because the console itself is shaped like an egg.😉🥚
I used to be able to remember every single pokemon name up to XYZ But i now forgot 98% of that(im asian so when i first heard my american friend calld Kabigon Snorlax i be like🤨)
33:22 Same thing was done with the Hydreigon line in gen 5, but with German numerals instead. Deino has "Ein"=one, Zweilous has "Zwei"=two and Hydreigon has "Drei"=three.😉🐲
The word “doppelgänger” is also German for “double walker,” according to folklore, if you were to come across a doppelgänger, you’ll be cursed with misfortune.
12:47 Pretty strange choice if you think about it, because Persian looks NOTHING like actual Persian breed cats, but rather some slender big cat like a cougar or a cheetah.🤔🐆

22:55 But where does the "Hitmon" part come from? Probably a combination of "hit" and "monster" or "monk".🤔

31:53 We may never know where the "star" part came from.😅
I love it when you make these videos 💝
Thank you so much😄✌ I'm happy you enjoy them. I enjoy making them as well😄
Awesome that you've compiled them all in one video! Thank you!
Thank you so much! I thought it would be handy for anyone who wants to binge watch the entire series! 😄
18:56 The spring onion Farfetch'd carries is also often mistaken for a leek. Then again, leeks are closely related to onions.🤔
13:02 Does that camera read "Game Ole" in the bottom right?🤔
I used to be able to remember every single pokemon name up to XYZ

This was actually really interesting.
Thank you!🙏 I uploaded one on German names too. I really love learning the meanings.
27:22 "Boober" is also a character from Jim Henson's Fraggle Rock.🤔
1:44 is like sayng strange banana
hahaha yes! that's true🤣
33:22 Same thing was done with the Hydreigon line in gen 5, but with German numerals instead. Deino has "Ein"=one, Zweilous has "Zwei"=two and Hydreigon has "Drei"=three.😉🐲
2:47 "Kamex" sounds like a super buff version of the character Kamek from Super Mario games.🤔
@@latexu95 hahaha it totally does
10:17 Strangely, when Kirby copies Jigglypuff's ability in Smash Bros. and uses it, he says "Purin!" in all versions of the game, not just Japanese.🤔
The word “doppelgänger” is also German for “double walker,” according to folklore, if you were to come across a doppelgänger, you’ll be cursed with misfortune.
19:53 "A powwow is a gathering with dances held by many Native American and First Nations communities."
- Wikipedia
10:02 Strangely, a boss in the game Okami, a magical nine-tailed fox, is also named Ninetails (not Ninetales).🤔🦊🔥
12:24 The "mouth" part probably comes from the fact that in the pokemon anime Meowth was always running his mouth.😜😺
10:27 Fitting, since both Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff are described as "Balloon Pokemon".😉🎈
12:47 Pretty strange choice if you think about it, because Persian looks NOTHING like actual Persian breed cats, but rather some slender big cat like a cougar or a cheetah.🤔🐆
9:34 As in Pippi Longstocking?🤣
Did you found meaning of dewdoung name, after applaud this video?
I sort of got an answer. I think they named it after the animal without any puns or a double meaning. the same way they named Krabby, Crab.
Most of these feel so literal... But I guess that's kinda the case in English too lol
20:21 *sigh* the english localizers knew exactly what they were doing when they renamed fhis one 😂
Weedle is cute!!!!
I agree😄🐛
❤❤❤
Thanks for all your support, Carnate!😄✌
Raichu name probably came from Raijū
That works too😄
