- 5th gen Pokemon names in Japanese are awesome! Game Freak got really deep and creative with a lot of the names this time around. Many names pull from Onyomi readings of Japanese, and get really original at times. It's awesome! So lets go over em!

Doesn't Audino always question herself in pokepark 2? She always said "I dunno" as a pun on "Audino", so Audino translating to "Maybe?" makes sense.
I can't believe I found somebody else who knows about the PokéPark games! Very few people know or care about them!

It also have the English word "bunny," referencing the animal Audino is suppose to be.
Wait so Audino's japanese name is a contraction of their word for "maybe" ?
That's funny, because in French, Audino is called Nanméouïe, which sounds like "non mais oui" which means "yes but no".
It's fun to see how every translation team tried to stick to the meaning of its original name !
Yep and they even slide in "ouïe" which is the sense of hearing so the double reference in japanese is also kept in the french one. Wow.

I think that you‘re thinking of the wrong „doch“. „Oh doch!“ is used in a situation where you emphasise your point because someone doubts/denies that it‘s true.
In Chinese it's Chabuduowawa
Cha bu duo can translate to almost or nearly.
but wawa means doll.

"Mademoiselle" isn't a fancy way to say lady, but actually means "Unmarried woman" as opposed to madame which means "Married woman", while officially not in use anymore since a few years now, it is still used in common language.
So mademoiselle is the same as "miss" (Ms.) in English?
@@argentum1738 Basically yes. However as I said, it is officially not in use anymore, so it doesn't appear anymore in official documents and registries.
Interestingly enough, we also had a masculine equivalent to mademoiselle, "damoiseau", but it fell out of usage much more early, to the point I don't think my grandparents' parents used it, even.
So what is in use nowadays? Took French in High school, but that was at least a decade ago.

In brazilian Portuguese we also have that distinction, we have "senhora" for married woman and "senhorita" for unmarried woman, although we will only use these terms in very formal circumstances (and only with old folks) or as a joke.

6:10 Looking at Audino's Japanese name and the saying of "maybe?" it may be a pun of makes it clear that in English, the name is a pun of the phrase "I dunno."

@@renatoalvisto8791 oh, I see. Thank you. The first things that came to my mind when I saw the letter 節 were Fushi/Bushi (one part of things, like a bamboo stalk or a music tune) and Setsu (a thing in-between). We usually don't use 節 for round things. It will be Hito-kire (一切れ a piece of -).

Warm Lillie Gen 5 will always be my favorite generation. It’s so outstanding with its story, gym leaders, elite four, pokemon, region, and evil team.
Galaxy-Eyes Garchomp Same here. Even though many people (*Genwunners) think it's bad, the reason why I love it is the same reasons that you list + The Adventures Manga.
Silly Wobbuffet Genwunners will hate me when they find out Kanto is my least favorite region in terms of pokemon released and overall. Not that I care. I find it funny to troll people like Genwunners. Normally I don’t like to troll people, but people like Genwunners are an exception. I mean my reasons for having gen 1 as my least favorite region in terms of pokemon are justifiable. My two least favorite pokemon are from gen 1. Only two pokemon from gen 1 made it into my top 20 pokemon. The only other gen 1 mons I really like are the squirtle line.
Galaxy-Eyes Garchomp In terms of Pokemon, I do agree that Gen I is bad. My least favourite Pokemon (Muk) is my least favourite because it's a very poorly designed Pokemon which is also very ugly. Also, what are those two Pokemon that are your 2nd and 1st disliked.
So Dewott's Japanese name is basically, "Two-Sword Joey"? Sounds like a mobster XD

It interesting for Unova being based in New York the melting pot of the world many of the Pokémon name are combine of different things and languages to make there names.

I really loved how it had the sequel games, and when you go back to the starter town of the first game as your last stop the NPC outside tries to tell you about catching Pokemon before realising you're the Champion.

Also those examples, man. DDLC and Infinity War stick out as pretty egregious.
Also also I love how excavalier uses the same words but in opposite order, because while other things end in "argo" (like fargo), "esca" is unique. And afaik since we took valiant from the same place chevalier did, it made sense to use that bit.
And finally, with the whole truth vs ideals thing I would have expected the softer pokemon to be about ideals vs "the hard truth" -- but not so.
I actually named my shiny Careful natured Mandibuzz Mama Vulgina.
I love this series! Also I realized that Gothorita's japanese name Gotchimiru sounds like "Kotchi miru" - "look here". I'm really looking forward for Kalos and Alola!

Well, the action of lowering one's head somewhat mimics that of a duck turning upside down to catch food. And if you think about it, music notes do strongly resemble tadpoles.
