    This trend of calling Adventure games overrated is kinda sad to me and I'm really glad you addressed the main point everybody's missing: it's an old game. A year older than me actually

      The main thing everyone is missing is, is that the main way to play Sonic Adventure nowadays is through Sonic Adventure DX Director’s Cut, a terrible remaster. The game was made for the Dreamcast and it plays the best there. Not many people can play it that way so people judge the game through DX, a game with worse visuals and a lot more bugs.

    I think the reason both adventure games are so loud has to do with the dreamcast hardware. It had a special dsp audio chip the would automatically balance out louder sound (or something like that do your own research) so when played on original hardware theoretically it should sound fine, but later releases never fixed this for normal audio chips, leading to music in cutscenes often being way too loud.

    • @joshuasanderson7359
      @joshuasanderson7359 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Is that why I don't remember SA1's music being too loud? Because I always played it on my DC? I'm sure the mixing in SA2 was always not great in the cutscenes though, even on DC

    • @KingdomHeartsBrawler
      @KingdomHeartsBrawler ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@joshuasanderson7359 It was better on the DC, but the voices cutting each other out is a problem only the English dub has. The original Japanese really didn't have that issue. The fact that SA1 and SA2 haven't been remastered for modern consoles (especially Switch) is criminal, they should use Sonics current momentum to make a better version of Origins but with the 3D classics instead (maybe even including Heroes). SA1's dub is definitely better than most of its contemporaries but it pales in comparison to the original Japanese version, which had much better scriptwriting and top-tier professional anime-style acting courtesy of an all-star seiyuu cast. Honestly, that's how it goes for 3D Sonic games in general. Even Sonic '06 and the Meta Era games are halfway decent in Japanese thanks to the vastly superior scripts and acting (Silver the Hedgehog is played by Daisuke Ono, for starters). Seriously, I highly recommend checking out the Japanese versions with retranslated subs to accurately match the original dialogue. You'll be amazed at not just how much better it all is, but also how much was changed in translation. The SA1 dub, for example, changed entire lines of dialogue, to the point where whole plot beats can feel different. SA2 is much the same.

    I played the Dreamcast original back then but barely. It was at a kiosk. I did eventually nab my own copy of the Dreamcast version just before COVID along with SA2. But back then the only way I was able to play it was on GameCube. SA2 however was on a burned CD my cousin made for Dreamcast but had no VMUs for it. Again, GameCube comes in to save the day. I had my own memory card for GameCube and my own copies of SA 1 and 2. I didn't mind the small differences. The complaints about the visual glitches are understandable but I never understood the ones about the audio. I never had a hard time hearing characters and I thought lines overlapping made them sound more realistic like they were having an argument or correcting one another. I will admit Dreamcast versions are prettier. Since my GameCube stopped working and I've since traded it in, Dreamcast is my go-to version. My Dreamcast can play burned CDs too so it's all good. I've tried all kinds of games on it I've never even heard of.

    One thing I find interesting about sonic adventure is that I don’t think the story is what actually happens in the game… kinda.
    There’s a cutscene where Sonic and tails run into knuckles for the first time in the story. The dialogue is different depending on which character you are playing as.
    As Sonic tails says practically nothing at all during this cutscene and Knuckles seems confused and unwilling to listen to reason when Sonic tries to explain he’s not trying to steal the master emerald, then Sonic says fuck it and they fight.
    Tails: Sonic can do no wrong and doesn’t at all try to pick a fight with knuckles when he realizes one is going to happen anyway, tails has more dialogue and it’s relevant, and knuckles is more aggressive than he is in sonics version of the scene.
    Knuckles: tails again is irrelevant for the most part, but Sonic is more aggressive in the cutscene and doesn’t bother trying to explain that he’s not trying to steal the master emerald and just starts a fight.
    Something along those lines…
    Anyway it comes off as if what you’re seeing in the game is not what actually happened in the story but rather the character you are playing as is telling you their version of events and that’s what you’re playing.
    So in that scene tails may or may not have actually said what he says in his version of the story but Sonic and Knuckles aren’t going to notice or care about what tails had to say as much as each other. And Knuckles is either lying through his teeth to save face and not look like an idiot by portraying Sonic as more aggressive while Sonic I think is just saying what he remembers and noticed: that knuckles was confused, he tried to explain to knuckles what’s going on, knuckles started a fight anyway and he kicked his ass.
    But knuckles is going to pretend he won that fight.
    Also they probably all fought Chaos 4 afterwards at the same time, but tails claims he did it by himself, while Sonic claims him and tails did it together and knuckles claims he did it by himself.
    I find it interesting that they put the effort into making the cutscenes different depending on which character you’re playing as as if they’re telling their version of the story when very few people even notice this.

    If people can sit there and still praise SM64 and OOT but at the same time criticize SA1 and SA2, then those people are idiots. SA1 aged way better than those games and it’s not even close. The Adventure games are still GOATED.

    Just for a comparison with 1998 standards...
    Final Fantasy VII and The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time came out in 1997.

      Ocarina of Time came out in 1998, not in 97

    It really sucks that I only consider about half of this game to be really good (that being Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles).
    I don't care for Amy's campaign, Gamma's alright I guess but nothing too special, and Big the Cat just doesn't belong in a Sonic game in this fashion.

    Even though it was 90% cutscenes.

    • @macuser7048

      Sonic got most of the cutscenes due to having the longest campaign. Big seems to be more of an afterthought since his is the shortest and is outright pointless. Amy and E-102 both connected. Tails had his own story despite having the same stages as Sonic. I don't hate all the cutscenes, but man BIg The Cat's is dumb. lol

      Knuckles got cut short due to him not knowing anything about his history. I wanted to see proper interaction between Knuckles and Tikal. Instead Knuckles is like, I don't know and I don't care to know. o.o

    It’s such a terrible game I don’t care that it came out in 1998 it’s still shit. But goddamn I fucking love it so much, I got DX for my birthday in 2003 and I still go back and play it every year on my birthday with my brother, it just doesn’t get old to me, and it probably never will.
