      Just my 2 cents worth: If a player is sidelined missing games due to a hit, the hitter needs to be sidelined for the same number of games. Too many players have their career cut short due to hard hits.

      of course you want to hurt the opponent, make it difficult for him in the game and he should feel and think all the time that you are there and that you will hurt him again.
      *but a player almost never intends to injure the opponent seriously.*
      bruises, scratches, lacerations and the like, these are the things that have always defined hockey.
      the fistfights are almost a kind of synonym for hockey - in no other sport is something like that tolerated.
      *but here, too, almost no one has the intention of seriously injuring anyone.*

    I'm convinced that it wasn't a dirty/malicious hit, just a check that went sideways. Unfortunately, for Kelly, because it's a game misconduct penalty, the DoPS is going to take a look at it. Kelly's a young guy, and I don't think the DoPS is going to do much on him.

      @@xtripledee8022 I agree, there needs to be more accountability on the players taking a hit. It seems as though a lot of players turn their back in order to protect themselves but it needs to be taught from a young age to take the hit square on. When I was in minor hockey they had stop signs on the back of our jerseys but a lot of players used that to their advantage to draw a penalty and coaches were also teaching them to do this, which resulted in a lot of injuries.

      @@jordanray6459 It is, or at least it was, when I was playing youth hockey. I was taught to expect a hit and protect myself anytime I retrieve or play the puck near the boards/in the corners. Not sure who started teaching players to turn their backs, it's not the right way to play the game.

    • @jordanray6459

      @@xtripledee8022 I’m not sure where this mentality came from. I speculate coaches and players saw an opportunity with the stop signs to gain an advantage by drawing a penalty. I know from when I was playing this is what other teams were doing. My dad was my coach and he was told by an opposing coach he was telling his players to turn when they saw number 2 (me) coming towards them. That game specifically, the player that turned was the coach’s son and he was taken off the ice in a stretcher with me getting a game misconduct. I was 6’1” when I was 14 and I hit hard, when a player turns his back at the last minute I wasn’t able to adjust in time and kids got hurt. It was unfortunate and I felt bad for the kid but it was his dad that caused that imo. I’m willing to take responsibility for making a mistake but that’s a piss poor way to play hockey.

      Not what you" wanted to do" . Is like Oops my gun went off and shot my wife in the head, but that's okay because it's not what I wanted to do. Or I only hit him twice with that rebar didn't mean to kill him,so it's all good

    This is the reason I want to see Ref calling players that turn there back on a player coming towards them. This is what happens. I have seen too many plays in the NHL in the last 5 years that players turn when they see someone coming towards them to force a penalty because they believe they will not get hurt. I know this is not the situation here but we you do in practice. It become nature to do it all the time even when you don't want to.
    they really need to get back to what Mike Bossy did when players where near the board and he explained that you always need to protect yourself. The video is Call Smart Hockey. It was a great video that came out in 1988. Why don't we see player doing this instead of what they have been doing. I hate seeing player getting hurt because of this.

    Nothing dirty about that hit. Wasn't even that bad of a board check. Unfortunately, Murphy's neck was on a bad angle at the time of contact. Bad accident. Hope he recovered ok.

    Plays like this infuriate me as the blame plays solely on the victim. He puts himself in a vulnerable position when his opponent has no time to protect him. His opponent is doing his job by taking the body until he decides to suicide himself.

    That did not look like a dirt hit to me. I didn't see any intent on Kelly's part to injure the Hawk player. It looked like a clean check to me.

    Maybe guys should brace for the hit, rather than turning into the boards at the last second.
    No penalty should’ve been called.
    That injury is squarely on Murphy.

    This is not Kelly's fault, yes, he should've laid off going through with it but at the same time Chicago player turned around as Kelly coming down to hit, he even felt sorry for him as well, I see no suspension

    This is the NHL Gary has developed. Guys constantly turning their back to the play, not protecting themselves. Kelly had no intention of hurting him but you can’t not hit cuz someone “might” turn their back. Junior hockey is to blame too taking hitting out of the game until kids are 15 and in Rep hockey. Allow hitting at a younger age when kids aren’t as big and fast and can learn the proper technique for protecting themselves and delivering hits.

  • @SunnyDenmark

    It looks like the top of the hockey stick hit the back first and then Kelly himself made full contact but not intentionnelly

  • @AJ72281
    @AJ72281 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did Kelly contact Murphy afterwards to apologize and make sure he was alright. That was obviously not intentional, just bad luck that it unfolded in that way. But like I said, it would be nice to see if Kelly did reach out. Just as a character evaluation. He seemed concerned…..

    • @scottsundt5288
      @scottsundt5288 ปีที่แล้ว

      So if it’s not intentional why would an apology be needed? Fine about the checking in on him, but an apology is 100% not relevant

    • @AJ72281
      @AJ72281 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@scottsundt5288 So, according to that logic, if you unintentionally step on someone’s foot while walking you don’t apologize?

    Kelly became a free agent until the Blackhawks got him on a short term contract. He'd better become more productive or he'll be on the parking lot before long.

    While it is always on the person making the hit to try and make sure they are making a clean hit there nothing he can do here he already leaning into the check he Murphy turns it’s just an unfortunate reminder to not turn with your back to the boards

    If done in public Kelly would have been arrested for assault and/or attempted murder.
