The best part was rotating the map. I know it sounds absurd but I haven’t been able to grasp the concept of coriolis force since many months despite having had resorted to different sources. Only after you rotated the image of the earth did all pieces fall into place. Why am I telling you this ? Because I want you to know that the smallest of explainations can create a huge difference in getting our concepts clear, and that is what differentiates you from other teachers. So please keep incorporating more and more animations to help us understand the concepts.

Your pictorial presentation are really helpful in grabbing the tuff concepts as well.

Great presentation. The one thing that this really helped me with: In the Northern Hemisphere where the Coriolis effect drives wind right-ward FROM a high-pressure system, I had a hard time understanding why the air would THEN move left-ward as it approached a low-pressure system. Your statement about how the air was then "attracted" to the center of the low-pressure system was very useful for me to picture the switch in direction to form the actual storm. Thank you.

Thank you SO much for this explanation!
    Really well done!
Just one slight correction; In Australia, we definitely call them Cyclones.
Willy Willys are actually small "tornados" that form mostly in the desert areas of Australia. They occur on clear, cloudless days, and are fascinating to see. (same as Water Spouts in the ocean)
A thunderstorm that causes a "willy willy", is called a tornado in Australia. They occur in major cities from time to time.
(not as often or severe as Tornado Alley in the US, thankfully)
Thank you again for this video.
    Great work!

great video amit. thank you sir. What is also interesting about cyclone is that you see the main part of the storm spinning counter clockwise in the northern hemisphere and what not.but what you don't see is the outflow of the storm turns clockwise the opposite way. so you have inflow coming in near to the surface turning counterclockwise and then you have the air go up the center of the storm like a chimney into the outflow which is turning clockwise. Which is why when you're looking at satellite of a storm you can see clouds moving in a direction that you wouldn't think they should be moving. that's what you're seeing is that outflow

Hi, if I may make a suggestion, when you have a picture of earth and sun at about 1'20" you should have represented earth as inclined as its rotation axis is not strictly perpendicular to the sun's elliptic. Just a detail, doesn't really make a difference to the point you make.

      @-Mitra- 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you! Have had the same thought, cuz used to see our Earth inclined at some degree. And it makes a difference, for viewers, especially the young ones, should have a proper digital representation of what is there in reality. Nevertheless, the video is great in general ☺️

I just want to clear one thing up, in Australia we call them Cyclones, not willie willies - willie willies are small, like a 'dust devil' or a whirlwind.

  • @mayurpachpind3585

    Excellent explanation... My understanding
    - Cyclone is a result of temperature variation on the earth surface
    - Differential temperature reception generates high pressure and low pressure belts. These pressure belts are developed on the landmasses as well as on the sea surfaces
    - Heat emanating from the sun warms air near the earth surface. Warm air expands ,uplifts and creates vacuum near the surface.
    - To fill the vacuum so created , air from surrounding areas converges , however it deflects on its way due to the effect of corriolis force and undergoes spinning effect. Thus, cyclones are formed .
