@@shivangi9137 well this has been my doubt since I started studying cyclones. " As we all know that the eye of the cyclone is very narrow as compared to its walls with strong spiralling ascent of air. It reaches untill the tropopause and then spreads out to enlarge in size .During this phenomenon , the warm air is released by the latent heat of condensation at the vicinity of the eye wall or at the eye in the upper ceiling. But the warm air cannot rise any further upwards due to one main reason - the warm air at the centre of the eye is compressed by the eye walls having more density ,creating higher pressure than at the surface causing the warm air to finally subside at the relatively lower pressure eye . (compressed air has higher pressure ) .
Sir your video is amazing. I can’t tell you how much difficulty I was facing in this topic. Thank you so much. But please make a video on extra tropical cyclone also.
I have one doubt. Why does the warm air subside in the eye region. Warm air is generally less denser so there is no possibility of it sinking down right
Latent heat plays a very important role in thunderstorms and hurricanes. Clouds form when warm air rises and the water vapor it contains condenses onto particles called cloud condensation nuclei. At that point the air becomes saturated. When this air first begins to rise, the water vapor is in the gaseous phase. When the water vapor condenses to form clouds, it releases latent heat into the atmosphere. The latent heat then warms the surrounding air around the new cloud droplet causing instability. The warm air around the cloud droplet will now want to rise and condense. This increases the cloud height and depending on how unstable the atmosphere is, thunderstorms could form from these growing clouds. Thunderstorms release enormous amounts of latent heat which adds to the instability in the atmosphere causing some thunderstorms to become severe. In hurricanes, latent heat is released within the clouds of the hurricane, warming the air inside the clouds. Hurricanes feed off of this latent heat release because it causes instability within the cloud and this warm air will want to rise. The storm will then intensify, or gain strength.

In the zone of subsidence or the eye, the cold warm air subsides but it doesn’t reach to much depth anywhere near the surface. Also at such heights, the spread of eye-wall is broadened. Refer to below link: earthscience.stackexchange.com/questions/8130/why-does-air-subside-in-the-eye-the-lowest-pressure-area-of-a-tropical-cyclone
Latent heat does not help air to subside .. as the moist air start condensing it release latent heat .. due to this air expands more and rise up .. the space created is filled by the surrounding air and cycle continues .. (so latent heat is the fuel of cyclone) . As air rises up it expands and cool down and subsides in the center of the cyclone. As the air subside, eye of the cyclone there is no cloud or rain clear sky ..
I'm not 100% sure, but some of the air in the eye near the surface gets drawn up into the eye wall. An evacuatiuon of air near the surface maintains the low pressure and air aloft subsides to replace the air near the surface which is effectively centrifuged into the eye wall. The descending air warms (because it is descending into increasing atmospheric pressure), which is hostile for cloud formation.

It doesn't stay hot. It radiates heat to space, so cools. Also, if air is rising in the thunderstorms, the air has to be sinking somewhere else (the air doesn't all accumulate at the top of the troposphere), so there has to be some descending air to balance the rising air.

1 question - how will the latent heat subside? wouldn't the latent heat warm up the air and air would rise further? please explain the subsidence in the eye!
Yes, why is the air subsiding in the center of the cyclone. The decreasing pressure causes the surface winds to increase, which in turn increases the vapour and heat transfer and contributes to further rising of air. The warming of the core and the increased surface winds thus reinforce each other in a positive feedback mechanism. Some of my this is from encyclopedia Britannica.

When liquid water changes state to water vapor due to heating, that heat is held in the molecules themselves when they are in the gaseous state. That is latent heat. When the molecules return to a liquid state the latent heat is released as sensible heat (heat you can feel basically).

Without getting into too great an explanation, latent heat is released as sensible heat during cloud formation. This means that the air involved will likely be warmer than the air surrounding it. Warm air rises, and rising air is unstable
As the rising air warms the core of the disturbance by both release of latent heat and direct heat transfer from the sea surface, the atmospheric pressure in the centre of the disturbance becomes lower. The decreasing pressure causes the surface winds to increase, which in turn increases the vapour and heat transfer and contributes to further rising of air. The warming of the core and the increased surface winds thus reinforce each other in a positive feedback mechanism.
