EASY DIY Portable Garmin Panoptix LiveScope Setup (Dancing with Ciscos)

  • In this video, I take my very own Garmin Panoptix LiveScope out for the very first time to target a species of fish that behave sort of like a lake trout, which is a cisco, aka tullibee.
    I also showed everyone my DIY portable setup for the Garmin Echomap UHD 95sv and the Garmin Panoptix LiveScope LV32IF combination. Which in my opinion is the easiest, cheapest and best DIY portable setup.
    With the help of the LiveScope we were able to have a lot of fun dancing with fish under the ice and catch a ton of ciscos / tullibees. We also hooked onto a monster Northern Pike on the tipup. And I shared a big tip on fishing for tipup pike in deep water.

    I like that, I’ve got a jon boat and don’t want to screw holes everywhere, I’d like to use the sane set up but have the transducer attacked to the troller then I could just take the cooler on and off

    • @LuRanOutdoors
      @LuRanOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally!! I try to minimize drilling anything whenever possible too. Also the portable setup helps when you want to use the same unit on different boats, or even for Shor fishing!

    I just had a thought... you can actually try to use the cooler's handle and tuck it under the 95sv's mounting bracket and prop up the lid... instead of using the butter knives 😄

    • @LuRanOutdoors
      @LuRanOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha yeah that's what I used to do. It actually is way sturdier and at the perfect angle. The only thing is, I'd have to take the handle off and feed it behind the cables and put the handle back on again. If I wanna move, redo the whole thing again. The handle was starting the wear out at the base already. Lol.

  • @1burningman
    @1burningman 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    You've had this cooler for a year now? Is the cooler holding up well? I was going to buy one just like it but many people complained that the handle broke off. I'd hate to put an expensive sonar in a case that may break.

    • @LuRanOutdoors
      @LuRanOutdoors  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yep I've had it for a couple years now. Still working great. As long as you are good with your equipment you should be good. But if you are hard on your stuff then maybe go for a more solid cooler...

    How long of pvc pole do you reccomend making?

    • @LuRanOutdoors
      @LuRanOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jeremiah, it all depends on where you fish (how thick the ice get). For example, where I fish the ice get up to 3.5 feet in March, so I make enough sections to add up to at least 3.5 feet. And my sections are about a foot each.

    Why not just float the transducer at the top of the whole? From what I understand sonar travels easily through ice.

    • @LuRanOutdoors

      Nah it doesn't work well at all with the transducer floating in the hole. Especially for livescope. We get 3-4ft of ice in late winter here. Haha

      @LuRanOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's 1999 for the ducer and black box. But there will be sales on here and there that makes it a bit cheaper. So far the best sales have been about 200 dollars off. But I think better sales will come out later this year.

    You eat them raw?

    • @LuRanOutdoors
      @LuRanOutdoors  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is Saskatchewan, no salt water fishing here. Almost all fresh water fish needs to be cooked before consuming. But I don't eat ciscos at all, only use them for bait or fertilizer, as they have lots of parasite in them around where I live.

  • @dustinzmetana2929

    Do you find that you use the Livescope enough to justify the cost!?

    • @LuRanOutdoors
      @LuRanOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got the livescope towards the end of the ice fishing season, so definitely not this season. But i definitely will use it enough in the winter, as I ice fish every single weekend. However, not sure how much I will use it in the summer, probably not worth it in the summer time.

    • @dustinzmetana2929
      @dustinzmetana2929 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the response. I get you will use it every weekend I am curious how many times it has put you on fish or you switched locations or techniques that you would not have been able to do because of your normal flasher. I am curious if can actually provide a huge advantage? Looking to buy a cheap one now.

    • @LuRanOutdoors
      @LuRanOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It has actually helped tremendously in many aspects. For example, not only can you tell how high the fish is in the water column, you can tell where it is horizontally too. If you are marking two fish at different depth, you can focus on the one that's closer. You can also tell the size of fish and see their behavior and attitude, to determine what they are, and then switch bait accordingly. You never have any dead zones on your screen on a steep drop off, where there's lots of fish. You can easily tell the difference between bait fish and predator fish. And for me the most important is it makes ice fishing way more fun, and you learn a lot more on how fish act. So I feel it is worth it for me.

      @@dustinzmetana2929 feel free to check out the overnight camping in -40 livescope fun video, that was a good illustration of livescope helping us catch some big walleyes. Not in the bottom like people normally jig, we caught all the bigger ones mid water column thanks to livescope.
