  • Batman V Superman was the first giant step taken to form what became the DCEU. For some it was an epic deathmatch between gods while others found it overstuffed, taxing, and pretentious. Where do I fall on BvS?

    It's a real travesty that Ben Affleck never got a chance to make the movie he wanted. He's a great director. I really wanted to see his Batman film. Henry Cavill brought alot've humanity to Superman.

    Besides being too long and way too jam-packed with bullshit, you have to nail the Batman/Superman fight in a movie called Batman v Superman. They did not nail that fight or its conclusion... they blew it. This movie is the dropped ball of all dropped balls. (Good review though! Way better than the movie!)

    I'll say, about the whole "Martha" thing, I was pleased that for ONCE, Batman's mother was mentioned over his father. I always feel everything is about Batman's father and his mother is kinda forgotten in the tragedy. I feel the writers thought it would be some great revelation, but as you said, it was very clumsily executed.

    Lex Luther in this film is the most misunderstood greatest villain in film. The thing people don't get about Lex in BVS is he is playing 2 characters just like Superman is Clark Kent and Batman is Bruce Wayne in public. Lex in public alternate identity is an awkward weak nerd, who nobody suspects is a devious mastermind that preys on the heroes' weaknesses. Nobody will ever think he's a threat.
    As for Lex figuring out who Superman and Batman are is explained when Bruce sees the classified computer files on Wonder Woman, Flash and Cyborg. He did research. One thing the scene should have had to better get this across was showing files on Batman and Superman, but not access them.
    As for Batman the best way to describe his character is the phase "Being blind as a bat." All he can see is his hatred for Superman until the "Martha" moment.

      @Xehanort10 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@jeffcunningham0389 Snyder fanboys are obsessed with hailing everything he does as the greatest, deepest, most genius thing ever. Eisenberg's Lex sucked. He moved around like he was having fits. And his big motive was "No one saved me from my dad's abuse so I hate Superman." And instead of being his own villain he was a henchman of the equally shitty DCEU version of Darkseid. Him pissing in a jar and calling it granny's peach tea just because a senator earlier in the film said that, saying "The red capes are coming" like a dumbass and going "Ding ding ding" like he was a boxing or wrestling timekeeper at the end was unintentionally funny for a film Snyder expected everyone to take far too seriously.

Lex’s reasoning in this movie for hating this movie is basically the same as every other iteration of Lex Luthor while also being fueld with the fact that his dad was abusive. Lex Luthor at his core hates being second to anyone and wants to rule over everything and everyone. Also, if you think that Zack’s version of Darkseid is bad than that’s definitely your opinion bro.

    What they should’ve done for Doomsday, in general, was have him “Die” at the end without Superman’s death. Then have him just be a recurring character throughout the DC Universe movies, that dies and somehow keeps getting revived, but getting stronger with each revival until the actual eventual final battle between Doomsday and Superman, where he ultimately kills the thing that he was created to, being Superman. Maybe Snyder was trying to go for that in the beginning who knows, but yeah Doomsday was honestly the most disappointing villain in probably all of the Comic Book movie genre just because they didn’t actually use him properly

    I loathed this movie for so many reasons considering the sheer potential and fantasy build up for years at the possibility this ever being made. Batfleck was great in character and was done dirty by the writing, but the story is over convoluted nonsense and Batman who kills in a modern day film? Nope not for me it makes his relationship with his villains especially the Joker utterly pointless, no kill rule gives your film gravitas and sense of jeapordy/boundaries.. stakes.. hence why the Dark Knight is easily the best Batman film ever. Also he's dumb as hell for not figuring out who Superman is and Lex's dumbass plan. I feel so bad for Ben Affleck because with good writing and in a much better movie would be Undisputed number one Batman. The most offensive thing about this movie is it is overly dour it is devoid of any warmth or humour when needed. Yes you can be dark but it doesn't have to be 100% bleak. The Martha line.. from absolute bitter enemy to best friend in seconds? Unforgivable..just awful. I hated this film.

    I didn't like the Theatrical cut when I saw it in the cinema - but then I knew it was robbed of its true potential, but the Ultimate Edition was just phenomenal and the more I watched it the more I loved it. The stylistic decisions and visual aspect won me over instantly. Unlike Nolan, ZS is always going to play to the fans first and foremost and he will always be closer to the source material - maybe that was not going to win the hearts of critics.
    I heard recently Lex Luthor is actually Lex Luthor Jr - not sure if that's accurate or not but there was a lot of backlash over Jesse Eisenberg - personally I thought he was great. Then there was backlash over Ben Affleck as well (and the killing streak) - and he was also brilliant as a ruthless older Bruce Wayne (obviously reeling over the death of Robin at the hands of the Joker - but it made perfect sense to me) and the rest of the cast were exceptional too. It's just an amazing film - the opening intro and the warehouse!!! OMG - the best Batman film scenes ever!!!!

    • @JohnDavidSullivan
      @JohnDavidSullivan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@megamikethemovieman that's actually really tough. I think The snyder cut would be first, followed by man of steel and then BvS, the only thing i think holding BvS back is a few plot holes as Cody mentioned. I do love the score in BvS and some of the scenes in particular feel much more epic but MoS just feels more consistent.

    For me when it comes to this film. It's a film I watch for amazing scenes and didn't care for story. The action, the visuals, the casting of Ben Affleck as Batman is awesome! Henry Cavill is my favorite Superman, Gal Gadot is perfect as Wonder Woman, and Jeremy irons is great as Alfred. That Batman vs Luthor's men in the wearhouse was THE BEST BATMAN FIGHT IN THIS FILM. My problems with this film comes with the story and my fucking God Lex Luthor played by Jesse Eisenberg he was fucking terrible.

    The problem with the Martha thing is a few minutes before Batman acknowledges that Superman probably has parents or role models who told him he was special and meant for great things. Their moms having the same name doesn’t change that. The whole reason Batman was upset with Superman was bc of the Zod fight. Before Zod and after Zod, Superman was saving lives. I guess Lex put a good frame job on him and punked Batman.

  • @AgesofFilm

    Yea I gave this one 4 1/2 stars 🌟..... I think it's a blast! Ben Affleck is the best Batman, Cavill is great.... that warehouse fight scene is so much fun... it will make you stop having sex with your girl just to watch it!
    The only problems I have with it are...
    - Eisenberg as Luther (too eccentric and weird)
    - why was Bruce... heading toward the destruction in Metropolis at the beginning? What was his plan exactly? His manager employer was already having people evac... so what was Bruce gonna do exactly? You leave Gotham, take a chopper over the bay, grab a car... nearly wreck MULTIPLE times trying to get to the carnage... to do what exactly?
    - Luther's plan for the big fight... you force Supermans hand to kill Batman and you have already created Doomsday to kill whoever wins that fight.... but how exactly was Luthor suppose to stop Doomsday? If Batman won the fight, he would obviously keep the kryptonite, if Superman won he would obviously get rid of the kryptonite.... so what was Luther's plan on stopping Doomsday?
    You mean to tell me this guy who figured out both superheros identities, came up with this master plan of destroying the capital.... but he's gonna create this huge alien monster that he can't control? Hmmm I don't buy it.
    - how does Lex know who Batman is? Bruce is in Gotham, Lex is in Metropolis, it's not like Lex gets to see Bruce/Batman all the time, and Batman is also a super genius and has committed his life to keeping his identity a secret, so how would Luthor know about him? With Superman it makes sense.... all his disguise is, is some glasses..... why is no one else able to put that together?
    But overall I absolutely love this film, none of my issues are the big of a deal for me, nor do they negatively affect my viewing experience all that much.

    While I did watch the ultimate edition a month ago I still didn't like it but I can acknowledge there are things I like for example
    Ben Affleck Batman is fucking amazing and
    The first 40 minutes of the movie is 9/10 after that not so much
    I loved the warehouse scene it was basically Arkham knight Batman on the big screen and I liked gal Gadot wonder woman
    I liked the batmobile and I loved the visuals and how it was directed it was beautiful
    I liked the visuals for the Batman and Superman fight the the visuals of Superman in the sky while it was raining and lighting it was cool
    And the montage of Superman carrying that rocket and him pulling the ship was cool
    But the one thing that I did not like was the fight between Superman and Batman Batman catching Superman's punch was cool and Superman being unfazed by Batman's punches was cool and funny 💀💀💀 I just think (in my opinion) it was wasted potential of the greatest fight in comic book movies period I wasn't expecting buildings to get destroyed or explosions or city level damage but I just wanted something epic
    (in my opinion)

    11:24 I feel sorry for Cavill that he didn't get to play a proper version of Superman as the light hearted hopeful inspirational hero that he is instead playing a miserable selfish asshole Superman who only wants to save Lois and Martha, had an awful version of Jonathan Kent for a dad who told Clark that he should have let a school bus full of innocent kids die to hide his powers when he was a kid. Then later the dumbass committed suicide by walking into a tornado and told Clark not to save him. He kills a bunch of people while fighting Zod and doesn't give a shit whereas an in character Superman would feel great guilt. In BVS when Lex gets that man to blow up the courthouse to make it look like Superman did it, instead of staying to help he flies off basically helping Lex's framing of him. And for some reason he becomes friends with Batman who was trying to run him through with a Kryptonite spear seconds earlier in a scene intended to be Batman realising he was becoming like Joe Chill but ended up more like "My mother isn't the only woman in the world called Martha. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO."

    4:50 I'd call Snyder's fanbase obsessed and cultish Cody not dedicated. They hate any film in any genre that doesn't involve him and are convinced anything not involving him is doomed to fail. They worship a pretentious hack as some filmmaking god. The failure of his films is treated by them as some evil conspiracy to destroy his career and ruin his life and according to them his daughter's suicide supposedly means that anyone who doesn't like his films is mocking and laughing at her death. Even if someone doesn't like Marvel they get called a Marvel fan for not liking Snyder. His films are simple and shallow but anyone who doesn't think they're somehow "deep complex masterpieces" is accused of not understanding them. And those people who spam that "Restore the Snyderverse" hashtag need throwing in an institution sharing the same padded cell.

  • @Xehanort10
    @Xehanort10 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    16:48 It's like he was playing a bad Joker ripoff then got told he was supposed to be playing Lex Luthor at the last minute. Lex Luthor is supposed to be someone who can't handle that he's not Metropolis's most powerful man since Superman turned up not a manchild bitter that no one saved him from abuse. Smallville did Lex having an abusive dad better by showing that while how Lionel brought him up shaped who Lex was Lex made his own choices and was responsible for his own actions.

    Cody didn’t understand that Batman, still a mere mortal, couldn’t possibly have the type of warehouse combat fight that he loved so much. Batman was fighting other humans in the warehouse, while he had more things to figure out and strategize when basically fighting a “god”! If they created a similar fight as the warehouse for Batman v Superman, I guarantee you Cody would have had 2000 complaints of how cheesy and unrealistic it would have been!
    Also, when he criticized why employees were still in Wayne tower, he should revisit 9/11 when so many employees still stayed in the 2nd tower after finding out the 1st tower was hit! He wants everyone to have common sense, when folks don’t always display it in real life!🤔🤷🏼‍♂️

    Still don't understand the hate and criticism this film and the rest of the Snyder verse gets. It's the closest thing WB/ Discovery had to a Cinematic connective universe. This movie is such a mess. The Batman vs Superman fight is too short. The Martha line is stupid for a resolution. Jesse Eisenberg is the worse Lex Luthor. Doomsday looks terrible. The Justice League email was so bad. How did Luthor know about Wonder Woman’s background? How did he know about Aquaman, Flash and Cyborg? The ultimate cut is just a longer garbage version. I still wish the final fight wasn’t Doomsday but Scoot McNairy as Metallo and we don’t get Jesse in the Luthor suit. Snyder’s visual style is nothing more than style over substance.

    Still the worst the superhero film of all time cause I didn't think any director or writer could fail with DC's holy trinity. The ultimate edition didn't make it better. The Snyderverse wasn't made for us DC fans sadly. Glad the Snyderverse is dead for good. Also DC comics has always portray the JL as Gods amongst men that wasn't snyder's idea yet it was his idea to cram in as much as possible we've seen him do this with ZSJL, army of the Dead etc. Snyder gave us a mindless brute Batman and a petty Superman whose father believes letting children die was a good idea. Jon Kent let held Clark back . The Smallville series being a great example. Snyder is only interested in showing how strong Superman is not showing his humanity. Snyder never agree to do scenes whwe Superman talks with a suicide jumper. That one moment in Jostice league were he talks to those kids filming him perfectly captured the essence of Supes far better than Snyder could. Snyder took on far much. He couldn't handle it you can easily see that. Oh and Tyler Hoechlin is the best grounded Superman.

    I hope The Flash gives us one more epic Ben Affleck fight scene. I really do. We can use another Warehouse fight scene scenario or something close. Other than that when it comes to this movie, the big pros are Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, and the divisiveness as far as the opinions of Superman. That's all I like really even though Affleck is one of my favorite Batmans and I would have loved to have gotten his solo movie. That is the best Batman fight scene and I love when he got shot in the back of the head point blank and it didn't do shit lol.
