This isn't a problem at all. I am 100% supportive of long periods of cross-gen gaming. it reduces e-waste, saves money, and enables more people to play great games on a budget.
Well, maybe the difference in between generations was a pandemic and almost two years of low volume new generation consoles. Sony had to keep pushing PS4 until it was redituable for PS5 alone. That and a great system to delevop for.
@@jojoa694 This is still almost in the middle life cycle of both consoles, I doubt PS5 will have a longer life just because the Covid affected it in the first two years
I'm not upset that the PS4 is still getting games, especially since developers are still porting to the Switch. But these statistics tell me that I'll be playing on my PS5 well into the PS6 cycle.
Ps6 will definitely suffer due to this PS4 and PS5 dual releases. People will say why change so early as tbh can't see a crazy jump up in quality. Games are getting to the point that graphically they are probably as close to as good as they can be, frame rates etc will obviously improve but gaming as a whole seems to be nearing it's limit.
all of us buddy. I'm playing Spider-Man 2 on PS5, Tomb Raider on my PS4 Pro and Metal Gear Solid Guns of The Patriots on my PS3. We love Playstation, we have to keep it alive.
The answer is simple the PS5 is still 500 dollars. I can’t think of a generation that has stayed at this price point for this long. Every generation has decreased in price after a year or two. Thus more people adopting it.
This tracks. When I got my PS5, its backwards compatibility meant that my PS4 went straight upstairs to my son's room. He's still playing that machine daily.
It's not a problem; it's fantastic, and it shows that 8 years for a new generation is too short-it needs to be pushed to 10. It's great that less fortunate people can enjoy new releases.
Some of the games on the PS4 are still breathtaking to look at even by 2024 standards - GoW, TLOU2, Death Stranding, RDR2, etc… all look like they aren’t far off of what the PS5 can produce. I think the PS4 is probably the only console that’s been able to last so long and “keep up” with the next generation.
ps4 holding back gaming... and people say the series s is holding back gaming lol the ps4 is so popular and has so much people still using that console that sony is obviously going to make cross gen games for them
@@yyyhhh8481 True. It took them such a long time to start developing games using UE5 because the PS5/XBSX adoption rate was so low due to hardware shortages. I hope we’ll actually get games that look next-gen soon because as far as I can tell, there isn’t really anything that looks much better than RDR2 right now, lol. Perhaps Hellblade II however that’s an extremely linear game. I reckon GTA VI will be the next game that’ll push the graphical envelope. I’ll upgrade console once that has been released.
As a guy who got a ps4 just this last year I'm appreciative of the extended cross generation period. I get to play the older games I missed out on and still play the newer games coming out today. I haven't had a supported and current console since the Dreamcast.
I just realised I missed that time for my PS3, some PS3 games are so expensive now. But Idk if I'm rushing to buy PS4 discs, there's only a handful of games that are really only on PS4. Much more actual exclusives on PS3.
@@MrJonas7that’s why I emulate everything I wanted to play on PS3 and lower, everything is substantially more expensive for physical copies and not only that with emulation you can often get better frames, graphics and builds with the added benefit of not having to purchase a whole console for every other game
@@MrJonas7Those are the ultra-rare ones most people have never heard of. I've accumulated hundreds of gen 7 PS3/360 games over the past 4 years. The vast majority of them have not cost me more than £5 at the local CEX stores. Most of the common games are like £1 -£3. The majority of PS3 exclusives are cheap here but it's going to cost slightly more on eBay. I only go that route if I can't find the game locally.
The 9th generation shouldn't have been released until 2024 in my opinion. The graphics of the 8th generation still hold up rather fine. The gap between graphics in general doesn't justify upgrades every 6-7 years like it used to be back then. The leap between PS1 and 2 was huge, from 2 to 3 as well and 3 to 4 likewise. Nowadays with a high-end GPU from 2017 you can still play modern games at 1080p and 60 fps. Newer generations should release every 10 years from now on.
@@renatoramos8834 Because of the Switch? Come on, bro. We all know Nintendo hardware doesn't define console generations and hasn't since the GameCube. The Switch is an 8th gen console. PS5 and Series X are 9th gen. 10th gen will be PS6 and the next XBOX.
Video game developers need to survive, and if there is still an active user base on the PS4 that buys games, I don't blame them for continuing to support the platform...times have changed, games are more expensive to develop and abandoning a viable platform that sells games does not make good business sense...I have had a PS5 since launch and I still purchase PS4 games...in fact there are many titles I missed when they launched and just discovering them now
It seems the point being made is that most current PS4 users are just playing free to play stuff. The majority of PlayStation users who will consistently buy new games are on PS5 now
@@itsmatt517 I am consistently on PS5 and still buy PS4 games…bought a bunch only a few days ago and never played a free to play game in my 40 years of gaming
@@tonyg5597 I'm in the exact same position as you. If anything, I will always favor physical copies for PS4, especially for games that have free upgrades for PS5. Imagine, if something were to happen to PS5, I can always use the disc and play the game on PS4. Besides, I kind of like more the blue cover color of PS4 than white color of PS5 games.
Looved my PS4, still got it and tbh might boot it up again. While unlike a lot of ppl I have been more than satisfied and even then some with the 5, the whole thing has felt more like a PS4-2 if you will. A more refined experience with some news bells and whistles, but not at all the sort of leap or night and day difference like there was between PS3 and 4 for example. Not that I'm complaining at all, PS4 will if it hasn't already go down as one of Sonys best selling systems so to follow so close in its footsteps isn't on the surface a bad thing to me.
I'm really fed up with this whole PS5 gatekeeping nonsense. At the end of the day, both the PS4 and PS5 are just computers-one's simply faster than the other. We already know the minimum specs for games being released: Metaphor ReFantazio runs on a GTX 750 ti (released in 2013), Dragon Ball Sparking Zero on a GTX 980 (released in 2014), and Silent Hill 2 on a GTX 1070 ti (released in 2017). These games are working on hardware that's over a decade old, so there's no reason they can't run on a PS4 (from 2013) or a PS4 Pro (from 2016). And Mystic... seriously, taking anything from an analyst who claims the PS4 is just a "Fortnite, Call of Duty, and GTA V machine" is laughable. We have the data on the top 10 games played this year across all consoles, and guess what? The PS5 is also dominated by Fortnite, CoD, and GTA V, along with Madden and FIFA. The industry is stuck relying on 8-12 year-old games as the backbone of consoles. Sonic on either the PS4 or PS5 wouldn’t even crack the Top 10 after its release, and hardly any new games will besides the annual CoD, Madden, or FIFA releases do.
Your GPU just handles the visuals, so it's easy to just to scale the graphics down to work on old cards. Specs like CPU and Memory have a much bigger impact on game design and therefore generally determine what is compatible on a machine.
I'm kinda poor so it wasn't until a couple of years ago that I managed to buy my very first PS4. I've been having a blast ever since. Yeah, I'd like to buy a PS5, but since it's not happening anytime soon, I'll stick to my faithful last gen console that so much joys have brought to my life.
I would recommend you jailbreak your ps4 so you can play games for free. There are more than 10k games released on the ps4 it will keep you busy till ps6.
I've been in my own world almost exclusively playing Nintendo for quite some time. So I actually got my PS4 fat base model in March 2023 as well. I was impressed by all the exclusives and slightly better support for cross gen 3rd party titles compared to Xbox especially more recently with Capcom titles like Street Fighter 6 and Resident Evil 4 Remake. I'll add that I also got a used One X in August 2021. Both consoles served me really well and the current low prices for 2nd hand physical games on both platforms as well the availability of cross gen titles is a great proposition. That said, I finally got my PS5 in June.... it hasn't exactly blown me away let's say. I started by replaying a few cross gen titles that I already experienced on PS4, honestly the main difference is the jump to 60fps from 30fps when using performance modes in games (but even PS5 struggles and needs to use upscaling and other tricks for this to happen... PS5 slows down more than I was expecting).
Ya know save your money. You can buy games on the cheap for PS4 I'm not a fan of digital but the sales for digital releases can be very cheap. Or for the same money branch out and go backwards to PS3 and for the same cost for console you have lots of games for that too. Bonus points jailbreak and you can play PS2 on it. What im saying theirs options but PS4 is good where it is and it's not going anywhere soon
Just checked prices in Finland and I would not say they are dirt cheap, used high quality games are 20-40 euros, ps2 era remaster games are 10-15 euros.
There are MANY games from the older gen that are still just as visually or mechanically phenomenal regardless of their age. For me, I like both the new and the old. But there are some indies as well that are thriving off the power of the new gen consoles. I’m not one for FPS lock and all these bells and whistles. It’s been proven time and time again, even with lower gen tech, you can make a visually an exciting game. Hideo Kojima the LEGEND himself showed us this :) I still collect or purchase older games on PlayStation and Xbox ( Xbox has a wider collection of older titles ) That being said I hope for at least another 1-5 years of PS4 life. Hell I still play 360 games,ps2,ps1 and ps3. Better games or good SHOULDN’T be defined by power alone. Depends what is inside the game and how it appeals to the gamer who plays them.
Same, I don't have a PS5 yet so I've been picking up the physical PS4 versions as they tend to go cheaper from not selling as well (Horizon Forbidden West $20, God of War Ragnarok $20, GT7 $30, Sackboy A Big Adventure $20) and if I can find PS5 games or the PS5 versions pretty cheap, I'll pick them up for later.
@@jakd.rabbit Don’t worry too much on picking up then for ps5 being you don’t have one currently. I have many ps4 disks I still use and some companies offer a free upgrade to ps5 version or a small fee to upgrade. You are good for now. Tbh, unless it’s A SERIOUSLY drastic difference and changed from the ground up, you won’t notice. Just food for thought. Happy gaming ^^/
@@Blankcanvas1983 it's more for the fact that I live in an area where internet is not exactly available to everyone because companies or the government themselves are too cheap to run it out there so I'm just making sure I have access to the ones I really care about. Welcome to living in the backwoods of Tennessee, where the Walmarts still stock DVDs to Blu-Ray's in a 9:1 ratio and the video game aisle constantly sits half empty, only looking filled because they have 6 facings of College Football 24 and the Xbox section is literally 70% empty because their corporate decision makers have decided to no longer order stock for that console due to how poorly it sells.
What's wrong with supporting the old gen? It's cool. People that unable to afford the ps5 can still buy the game on ps4, and later if they get the ps5, the ps4 discs still work on the ps5. People that complain about the ps4 still got supported are the people trying to flex that they owned a ps5. I owned multiple consoles including this gen and last gen but I still play game on my xbox 2013
I never understood why people gripped about it to begin with... when I got my PS5, I was actually glad PS4 was still getting games, because cross-generation play is a MASSIVE boon for games struggling with a playerbase. Destiny 2, for example, had a lack of players on Stadia that cross-platform play helped with. By NOT supporting PS4, you DO leave money on the table, because as you said, you ostracized people that would otherwise play the game.
@@aiodensghost8645 yeah true, I think people more like flexing: "Oh guess what, I have a ps5, look at those losers with the ps4". Also I won't download cod on my ps5, it takes up to 300gb, why don't just use your old consoles to play it, ps4 slim handles warzone fine
PS4's success ended up cutting into PS5's potential. The user base of PS4 is so large and still active, and I suspect for many, the graphics are good enough that they see no reason to upgrade to PS5. It's just like the PC in that regard.
@aznhomig True. Besides, Sony doesn't seem to reduce the price of PS5 after 4 years it was launch but rather increase the price of both standard and digital console whether it was phatt or slim model except US
In this era of inflation, it's perilous to make games solely on a console that has so many similarities from its predecessor, granting the fact that games have become so expensive to make, so releasing on both platforms is a safe bet of making more money, that's if the current gen didn't pull the sales numbers that they're expecting.
Let's face the truth. The graphics improvement isn't that great and there aren't many PS5 exclusive games. At the same time, there are many cross-gen new games. PS4 owners can play all "Like a Dragon" games, Metaphor Re-Fantazio, Vision of Mana, Trails through Daybreak, Eiyuden Chronicles, Romancing Saga 2 Remake, Persona 3 Remake and many more new games in 2024.
There were plenty of games that came out for PS4. However, just like Visions of Mana and now Metaphor Refantazio, multiple games are digital only for PS4 which means lack of presence in stores and amazon since Sony don't allow digital games outside PSN.
it affects them so much because they made a poor financial decision and now they need someone to blame when they realize what they bought wasn’t worth it.
Yeah, the PS4 probably gonna still be being supported after the PS6 releases cause it’s still making Sony a lot of money Aldi’s companies and developers making PS4 game still is still making them money so🤣
It's the same people who blame the ps4 audience for "holding everyone back" cuz apparently developers are forced to make games that can run on weaker systems. These people and their demands for "a proper next gen experience" are the reason we are half way done with the PS5's lifecycle cuz developers are wasting a ton of time and money making games look more "next gen". By their logic, they're also a problem themselves cuz consoles (old or new) are keeping back the true capabilities of computers.
Old consoles = cheap PCs/Laptops. Steam Charts show that GTX4080 owners are a minority. Until like 2 years, the 1060 cards were at the top. The general audience does not upgrade, this console generation didn’t have any price drops but increases! Meanwhile publishers needs customers to get into all of these live service games, but you better not cut off the audience
It makes sense why development and publishers don’t want to leave last gen behind. Theres probably a combined 100 million consoles out there between PS4 and Xbox one. That’s a ton of sales you’re missing out on if you do current gen only.
@@urbanizeddreams being console exclusive is kind of a death wish now especially for hundred million dollar games. At least need to release on Pc as well.
Ever since the consoles went from unique custom built computers to now x86 architecture PC builds, there was no reason to not continue supporting PS4 or Xbone. Even Nintendo, but they at least have their actual exclusives that have always drawn millions to buy their stuff.
The PS4 already has a big userbase, it's powerful enough to run any indie game and PS Classics titles, the game's engine still support it, lots of people (including me) hated the idea that you can't backup your save files to a USB device on the PS5 and you are now forced to pay PS+ for make backups to the cloud and no much people are interested in graphics or framerate to upgrade to the PS5 since it's pretty much a wasted luxury. Yeah, the PS4 will be still around and probably more than the PS3 and the Vita combined.
Dunno man those insomnia leaks did expose PS3 still has an active player base even now. Not counting the consoles offline being jailbroken. Not all but there's a handful of games from that generation that can be played online in 2024 without PlayStation plus. I'm not ruling out PS4 ... I'm saying all 3 of these consoles have/had extremely long runs
I don't speak for everybody still in their PlayStation 4, but I can give a straight up answer to Sony.. it's called, I have a budget, I live within my means. The PS5 is too expensive to buy.. and at this point it's not worth getting or saving up for because a gaming PC.. it's going to give me more value.. and more choices in games.. both Microsoft and Sony exclusives are on steam.. unless there's an exceptionally good deal on a PlayStation 5.. that I can afford.. there's no way I'm getting one.. there's no way I'm paying $700.. for the PS5 pro. With another additional $80 for the the disk drive.. plus paying for PS Plus. I'm 43 I'm not going to spend my money recklessly on impulse because I want to play the silent Hill 2 remake. These corporations need to understand that your core customers are a lot like me times are tough and we can't afford to buy brand new games.. we have to buy them used what you're trying to kill off.. or wait for a good sale. I'm not in a rush to upgrade to the PS5.. I'm sorry console gaming is becoming too expensive.. for saving more money for a gaming PC that's going to be more powerful than any console out there.. and can do more than just gaming that's going to be much more valuable money-wise to invest in than buying a PlayStation 5.. I'm pretty sure Nintendo's switch to is probably going to be over $400 I'm going to bed that's going to have the same processing and graphical power of a PlayStation 4 which means their games are going to cost more to make..
I bought a ps5 like 2 months ago and I was originally on ps4 but I've had my ps4 since 2016 but the poor thing started to get side effects. I think consoles may end up similar to mobile phones where you often skip a generation before upgrading due to how little of a return you get per generation
Or I just go to PC and only have to upgrade GPUs every few years, enjoy free online and a massive library of games which I can get from sales. Consoles are just pre-built closed-system PCs anyway.
I’ve been doing it since ps4 pro. It was a big upgrade over my shit base ps4 jet engine. Whether the ps5 was good or not, I didnt care as I would only upgrade to a PS5 pro that we all knew was coming. Glad I did cuz I would’ve been highly disappointed with 4k30fps in fidelity mode… Now we upgrade when ps6 pro comes out. Don’t care for base ps6 when ps5 pro will be doing 4k60fps until 2030
I still play my ps3 weekly because its free online multi-player and a lot of people still play lol. I don't know why people expect there'd be less ps4 users when you couldn't even hardly get a PS5 for the first year + of its release.
the PS5 is still insanely expensive, especially if you live in a country other than 'murica. $800 for the base ps5 in australia, $1200 for the pro, similar in places like the UK and europe. Can't imagine how brutal it must be in poorer regions

I actually find it super simple! Most games from PS5 CAN be downgraded to be playable on PS4. Since technology isn’t jumping that much AND the market isn’t creating content requiring the latest technologies and aren’t creative enough to lock the game to PS5 duo to gameplay. So what I’m saying is that for the most part, PS5 is the “high graphics” option while PS4 is Low. And of course there are other factors like SSD loading times, but my simplification is by all means correct. Resident Remake 4 on PS5/4. Jedi Survivor getting a PS4 version later. God of War R was a cross gen 2 years after the PS5 released. EVERY COD IN THE FUTURE IS SUSPECTED TO BE IN PS4 because of the Cod app plan. Yeah, PS6 better carry PS5 AND 4 cross gen!
Games like black myth wukong simply cannot run on hdd or slow ssds. One guy tried to run wukong on his HDD and it had horrible lag and huge texture loading delays. Even the new Ghost game is being rumored to have a PS4 version despite the fact it was worked with PS5 in mind.
This is nothing new, they always talk about the next console release when one is about to comes out, ps5 pro was being talked about right after ps5 dropped
Well we are approaching 4 years as crazy as that sounds, I don’t think we are getting a PS6 until at least 4 more years which would make a lot of sense since by that time a lot of new hardware breakthroughs will be found
It's certainly the most disappointing generation. I've been playing since the third gen (MS/NES), we're on the ninth one and there's so few big games that are great, the little we get too often have a "release now, patch later" attitude or are fun but way too generic and short. Seventh gen (PS360) was arguably the peak, some say sixth as both were pretty impressive, eighth had it's moments in comparison, ninth is wait forever for next to nothing, and I don't think you can blame the pandemic and reduction in crunch culture for all of it.
As a JRPG fan the PS4 Pro life in 2024 has been treating me well. The only JRPGs I've had to miss out on are the only two that I don't really care about (Final Fantasy 16 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth). So I basically feel no pressure at all to upgrade because I still have access to every game that catches my interest. Aside from JRPGs the other two online multiplayer games that I like are both completely fine on PS4 and have crossplay.
There will though it will probably mainly be only indie and sports games at that point. While the ps4 is still getting major games atm, I don't see that lasting 4 years from now. 2025 is already looking like a decline in terms of notable ps4 games coming as it's mainly remasters, ports, indies, and lower budget jrpg. That said, none of those is to be discredited as bad offerings, there is still plenty of potentially great stuff coming outside of those, and there is still games that will not have been announced yet. Some of the notable ps4 games for next year are Little Nightmares 3, Civ 7, Fatal Fury City of Wolves, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, Instinction, Atomfall, Delta Force, and Splitgate 2.
also a point that i make is there isn't any reason to not buy the ps4 version of a game. its cheaper second hand usually, i can play it off of an external drive if i want and even if i do eventually want the ps5 version i can get the upgrade for $10 or some of them are free
I wish Sony still allowed devs to publish games on the Vita store. I remember when Square Enix ported World of Final Fantasy to the Vita when they really didn’t need to, but I enjoyed playing it on there regardless. Games that aren’t graphically intensive can run just fine on the Vita
I love my Vita to this day. But the Store is in survival mode now. At the end of the day, Sony needs to make profit and we are a small community buying indie games in the Vita, so no encourage to develop for that console, but big enough to keep the store running.
blazblue, UNIST, umvc3, MK9, doa5+, sfxt, all the vanillaware games, all the snk/code mystics ports, all look incredible. run well too! all those games are still being played on my vita to this day. also, arcana heart 3!!!!, fighting climax, iconoclasts, almost every 2D sprite based games look amazing on the vita. i always get sad thinking about how short of a support the vita had. but my vita will always LIVE ON!
If they locked Vita and PS3 store access behind PS Plus in order to keep them going, I would continue to pay for it but as of now, my PS Plus subscription will end as soon as it lapses if they bring those stores down. Sony needs to work on customer goodwill and respecting purchases made on their platforms.
Aside from the loading speeds, for me, someone who plays on a 1080p TV and does not intend to change that any time soon, there is no big enough difference for me to fork over the money for a PS5, let alone the Pro. I may get a PS5, used w/disk drive, when I find one for a good price and a game releases that isn't on PS4. And after beating Persona 5. That game takes A WHILE. There is just no need/incentive for me to buy a PS5. Heck, maybe I skip the Gen and get a PS6, assuming it can play PS5 games. You never know what the future brings.

I was in the same boat but ultimately decided to just buy ps5 slim with 4tb ssd. The price and cross gen are probably the two biggest reasons why so many people have not made the jump. If they lowered the ps5 to 399 it would see a massive spike. I don't think Sony cares. All they seem to care about is people just being in the ecosystem
@Dis2good you probably mean the refurbished ones. The mass majority of Playstation owners probably don't know what Playstation direct is lol. I meant the standard price be lowered to 399.
@@naturalfitness-1 The mental gymnastics of trying to convince people that the 399.99 you said the console should be isn't the same thing as the 399.99 current price of PS5 must be exhausting. Also PSdirect is the Google search recommendation for PS5.....so even if people don't know that PSDirect exist as soon as they search PS5 and see it's Sony PS website and that they can sign in with thier existing PSN, I think you are gonna have a hard time making that claim.
@corey_massey I'm not trying to convince anyone about anything or making any claims. What are you on about 😂. A lot of parents, grandparents, etc. go to the store to buy consoles for their kids. For the ones that would check online, they would likely try Amazon first. Barely anyone outside the internet knows what ps direct is
I'm still using my PS4 Slim. My friend comes over, we play Battlefield 1 on two TV's. It still plays most of the games I'm buying, It's great for local coop, I can carry it with me if I'm going somewhere, I can lend it to my friends if they want to play a game. I'm not surprised people are using and buying ps4's still. It's cheap now, has loads of games old and new, and it generally works and looks fine. They go for 100 to 150e used in my country with a physical copy of a game or two. You get the console, buy an SSD to improve load times by 20-30 sec and you're golden. Most people just want to be able to play games and don't care all that much for the graphics.
I bought a PS4 Slim in 2018 because it was a good value for roughly $300. It had games you couldn't play on PC and you couldn't build a comparable PC at that price during that time. This gen, I switch back to PC and I don't regret it one bit. A PS5 costs almost as much as a high-end PC in my country so it makes no sense to buy it. My current PC costs roughly the same as the base PS5 and I'm happy with it because not only does it play the same games as PS5 you can also do other things with it too which you can't do on consoles like editing and browsing the web comfortable. Right now I'm replaying GOW 2018 on PC and having a blast. Glad I waited for Ragnarok on PC (tho it sucks that Sony introduced PS account requirement which meant many people can't buy the game).
The generational leap no longer exists. Everything the ps5 does is done better by pc and typically the ps4 isn’t all that far behind. We probably will never get a jump from ps1 to ps2 or even ps2 to ps3 ever again
That wasn't at all true when PS4 came out. For the first year of PS4 gen (2014) multiple major big games still released on PS3. Watch Dogs, Wolfenstein The New Order, Metal Gear Ground Zeroes, Destiny, Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, Far Cry 4, Dragon Age Inquisition all came to PS3. It wasn't until 2015 like 18 months after PS4 launched that PS3 stopped getting the majority of next gen releases.
@@baronvonslambertyeah this is a little inaccurate. The Ps3 and 360 both stopped getting major games basically at the same time. In fact if anything the PS3 lasted longer cuz it still had Persona 5 releasing on it in 2017 while the 360 got nothing
@@corrd3ll Why though? It's not like it's hurting you in anyway what so ever. I mean does it seriously bug you that games are still released on older consoles???
Loved the video, and this is such an interesting topic. As a PlayStation developer myself, the stats I have seen between PS4 and PS5 have been real interesting. I'm a small time indie dev but if you ever wanna chat about some of that I'd be down. The cost breakdown still makes sense for plenty of devs, I know it does for me. As for me personally I can see how some of the games still sell but others might not as much. On my PS4 I mostly use it now to play PS Classics but still plan to buy some new releases.
5:00 This is what I never understood from the crowd always saying that the PS5 has no exclusives so there’s no point in buying one or just get a PC. Like, YOU WERE JUST COMPLAINING THAT CONSOLES SHOULDNT HAVE EXCLUSIVES. And now that you can play more games on more consoles, and PC, somehow that a bad thing that Sony did. I truly think the plot has been lost.
We’ve been getting diminishing returns since the PS4. The PS3 was the last generation where we got a huge leap in graphics and capabilities in a console from the previous generation. Looking back at those games that now got remasters you really can appreciate just how good those games were for their time. It’s getting harder and harder to justify buying these “next gen” consoles nowadays just to have stable frame rates or slightly higher resolutions. Other than to get those exclusive games on that console which is a whole other issue in itself.
Are you in favor of planned obsolescence? Because the Playstation 4 can perfectly run many current games and there is nothing wrong with games still coming out on ps4
This happened with the PS2 having games released well into the PS3 era. When you have the market leading console it has a long tail for software due to lower development cost, higher developer efficiency/competency and large install base. You could still be playing GTAV on PS3 and that's wild
4:40 This point has to be highlighted again when the PS5 and 6 crossgen period happens. there are so many games that will simply not require PS6 and can run on PS5, and I think PS5 will continue to run for most of PS6’s lifecycle.
For me I think the fact silent hill has come out from Unreal Engine 5 companies will probably all lean towards that soon it'll be available for all but there will be no teething problems, knowing witcher 1 remake/cyberpunk 2077 sequel and witcher 4 is coming out in the next how many years in the same engine man we're in for a good time. I keep my PS4 slim for the party games and many games that aren't supported which sucks
The only reason we're seeing ps4 versions of games, I feel is mostly due to companies wanting to still release on switch and since ps4 is stronger, they might as well put stuff on there as well
I really don’t understand why some people think that once a new console comes out it’s like forget the old console I still have plenty games and play them on a PS3 Ps1 and PS4 plus I have kids and grandkids that love the older games.
I still have a PS4 base model that I currently game on, as I play mostly sports, first-party PS games & a huge backlog to keep me occupied. Would I like to upgrade to a PS5 to play Spiderman 2, Wolverine, Metal Gear Solid Delta - of course yes but with the pricing of PS5 & the talk about PS6 already; has me thinking that maybe when the PS6 comes out it would be backwards compatible with PS4 / PS5 games due to same GPU architecture. However, if there is a price drop before then I'll get the PS5 but until then I am currently satisfied with my PS4. How I see it, It really depends on your game play habits and how much time you really have for this hobby!
I’m planning on getting a PS4 pro for Christmas, and to me it makes more sense than to get a PS5. Currently a PS4 pro, is cheaper, easy to mod and still being supported. My plan is to get it to play Bloodborne, Shadow of the Colosus and instal a buck-ton of emulators. Also, not just to meme, but the ps5 really doesn’t have any games (at least ones that I’m interested in).
@@itsmatt517 what’s your point, Mario? Ps5 is a minimal step forward. Not worth it. I can play almost everything on my 4 Pro that you can play on a 5. ✌️
Sega is going to keep supporting last gen as long as possible simply because of the popularity Sonic has in the mainstream because of the movies. I believe it will start to really affect the quality and innovation for Sonic games going forward.
@@Gremiyuns The ps3 wasn't getting noteworthy games 4 years after the ps4 released. In fact, the ps3 was getting scraps from 2016 onwards (outside of Persona 5).
The reason I personally don't upgrade from PS4 to PS5 is only because it mostly has no exclusives that I can't just play on either PS4 or PC. There's no reason for me to jump that gap when I have the resources to play most PS5 games elsewhere. The only acception being Astrobot. That game looks amazing, and would love to play it someday.
This kinda thing isnt exactly new too. NES got close to still being active until N64 came out. SNES came out 1990/1991 and N64 came out in 1996. the NES came out in 1985 (1983 jp). NES was still going 3 years after SNES came out.
So, I just checked the prices in my small European country... PS5 Pro (preorder) 890 euros. PS5 slim 630 euros, PS5 digital 510 euros. My plan was to wait for PS5 to drop prices, but since it will never happen... Well, it says for itself. And yes, I will buy new Sonic, thank you.
@@cosmosofinfinityThat's what I don't understand either instead it's only available outside the US. The great thing is some have multilanguage option like Sonic X Shadow Gens and the recent, Lollipop Chainsaw. MH Rise, which only got a Switch physical copy but no physical when it came to PS and Xbox. And MH Stories 1 and 2 although 2 is just a digital code, but there is a physical just in Europe and Asia.
a PlayStation 5 here in brazil is still costing 3k in price, even tough we're basically at the middle of the generation, still, the most "basic" version of the console, still costs double the minimum wage, so for most of the people, staying on the ps4 is a no brainer
Why shouldn't old systems get new games? If it can run the game, why not? Furthermore if it targets the old hardware, that means it should run great on newer systems
From a Sonic fan, Takashi Iizuka was most likely talking about Nintendo Switch because that’s where a good chunk of Sonic Sales are. Either way it makes sense to support PS4 because Sonic Games aren’t pushing any Consoles to their limits graphics or gameplay wise.
It's such a weird look for him. It looks like something a chain smoking older lady named Brandy wears as she funnels quarters into a slot machine. Probably smells like cheap perfume 😂
Cross gen is the future, there is nothing that the ps5 can do that a ps4 cant aside from better performance. These console leaps aren’t generational anymore.
the ps4 (and ps4 pro) is just a really good system. its probably closer to the hardware level of most pc players. 1080p at a solid 30fps is still relevant. ps5 exclusive titles are few and most games are still made for 30fps. the ability for studios to make a cut down but still fun experience (look at hogwarts legacy on switch compared to ultra on pc) means that previous gen consoles will stick around longer especially as everything gets more expensive.
I don't think ps4 is in any way a hindrance to ps5 sales. Ppl who stayed on ps4 probably don't buy new games nowadays anyway. I would assume that most owners shop around for cheap disc games or get "free" older digital games from psn. I mean, it feels logical that if someone still has 10 year+ machine for whatever reason, they probably won't fork out $70 for new AAA games... Edit: I wrote it and the guy basically said a similar thing at around 7:20 mark
Very few exclusive games on the PS5 and the PS5 version of all the cross-gen games offer negligible differences. There's really not much reason to upgrade and hence why many made the obvious choice and just stuck with the PS4. As long as it keeps getting supported, why get a PS5? The PS5 was underpowered and underutilized since it launched, doesn't matter if you blame it on the pandemic, it's just a fact. The PS5 Pro actually will offer what the base PS5 should've been but they're charging $700 for it with no disc drive so that's also not going to get many to transition from PS4. The PS5 has, by far, been the most underwhelming console generation in my lifetime and this goes back to PS1/N64 days. Modern gaming is mostly disappointment. Empty promises, lack of games, and underpowered hardware. I don't blame people one bit for sticking with the older stuff. It was better. There's a reason PS3 hardware and games are in high demand right now and sky rocketing in price. Better library of games. Games are the single most important thing in selling consoles. If you don't got them, and the PS5 is currently lacking in that regard, then people aren't going to buy it. I've seen people claim that games and gaming is better than ever and everybody else are just haters. I just don't agree with that at all. Where are all these good games that people claim exist? I feel like I played all the good ones and there's nothing else so I'm back mostly on PS3/PS4 games myself as I wait for something to come out on PS5 worth playing which isn't going to be till next year. A wasteland of new releases entering the holiday season when we should be getting bombarded with new releases. There's absolutely nothing coming out. The Silent Hill 2 remake is the highlight and that's basically it for the rest of the year. But yet, people tell me gaming is better than ever and there's so many games. It's like we're living in two different realities.
PS3 is still a special console for me. I’ve got my backlog that I’m still working through in addition to being excited for my PS5 Pro preorder next month. Especially with being able to use my Dualsense on my PS3, my backlog games still look great on my OLED so I see no reason to get rid of them.
Considering I boycotted PS5 games due to the controller and not being able to back up saves on a USB without a cloud service, I'm glad games are still coming out on PS4. Also, for me the 2 game series that matter most to me are both still being released on PS4, that being Yakuza and Gran Turismo.
@@ShoXwavee You can do it only for PS4 games. If you try to do it for PS5 games it won't allow it and force you to do it through cloud which I don't have since I don't pay for PSN.

i think it's pretty developer dependent, sonic games are mostly aimmed towards kids, it makes sense to target the lower end consoles since kids are more likely to have them than the shiny new thing.
What reason would some people have to upgrade to PS5, especially if they have a PS4 and a PC? Beyond wanting greater visual fidelity (in case the game isn't on PC), the only factor is exclusives, and there just aren't many true PS5 exclusives. Even the handful of exclusive PS5 games seem to be timed exclusives.
Nintendo and PC is all one really needs. Xbox is essentially bowing out at some point and PS has been sitting on many IPs (Bloodborne) and the cross-gen support and price increases.
A 1/3rd of people playing Fortnite doesn't mean they're ONLY playing Fortnite. Even if it's only 30% of PS4 owners are buying new games, that's likely 30% of 50million active users. I don't get the point of this. The cost of developing for both is negligible for the potential to scrape up more sales.

The 9th generation shouldn't have been released until 2024 in my opinion. The graphics of the 8th generation still hold up rather fine.

@@jakd.rabbit Don’t worry too much on picking up then for ps5 being you don’t have one currently. I have many ps4 disks I still use and some companies offer a free upgrade to ps5 version or a small fee to upgrade. You are good for now.

No, most of the PS5s potential was cut due to the Covid shortages.

@aznhomig True. Besides, Sony doesn't seem to reduce the price of PS5 after 4 years it was launch but rather increase the price of both standard and digital console whether it was phatt or slim model except US
I mean there is a slight upgrade to having a ps5 in my opinion, it runs better than my ps4.
My PS4 has been running for 8 years now. I think I'll still keep playing it
In this era of inflation, it's perilous to make games solely on a console that has so many similarities from its predecessor, granting the fact that games have become so expensive to make, so releasing on both platforms is a safe bet of making more money, that's if the current gen didn't pull the sales numbers that they're expecting.
I’ve stuck with PS4. PS5 is the first PlayStation I’ve ever skipped.
I dunno what the big deal is about still supporting ps4 so what more people can enjoy games the better
it affects them so much because they made a poor financial decision and now they need someone to blame when they realize what they bought wasn’t worth it.

It’s getting harder and harder to justify buying these “next gen” consoles nowadays just to have stable frame rates or slightly higher resolutions. Other than to get those exclusive games on that console which is a whole other issue in itself.
👍👍👍
ps5 never took off my friend
I regret buying mine. I have a PC and don't see the point anymore.
Only if your into physical games
No PS5 here. I love my PS4 and don’t see any reason to spend my money on next gen yet.
PS5 is current gen, PS4 is last gen
@@itsmatt517 what’s your point, Mario? Ps5 is a minimal step forward. Not worth it. I can play almost everything on my 4 Pro that you can play on a 5. ✌️
@@njones621 Astro Bot and FFVIIRebirth were two of the best games I've played this year
@@itsmatt517 cool. You have an opinion. Who cares.
@@njones621 Right back at ya baby
Sega is going to keep supporting last gen as long as possible simply because of the popularity Sonic has in the mainstream because of the movies.
I believe it will start to really affect the quality and innovation for Sonic games going forward.
Stars Wars Jedi Survivor just came to PS4 😂😂 everyone blaming cross gen like y'all wasn't going to get these same games anyway 💀
The crying/outrage wasn't like this when we took the jump from ps3 to PS4, that's how you know it's so many ppl first console 😭😭
Lol I got the ps4 copy! I was so happy that they did that
@@GremiyunsYou mean the PS3 or PS4 was the first console?
@@Gremiyuns The ps3 wasn't getting noteworthy games 4 years after the ps4 released. In fact, the ps3 was getting scraps from 2016 onwards (outside of Persona 5).
Thanks for telling me, I'll 🏴☠️ it to my ps4 rn
The reason I personally don't upgrade from PS4 to PS5 is only because it mostly has no exclusives that I can't just play on either PS4 or PC. There's no reason for me to jump that gap when I have the resources to play most PS5 games elsewhere. The only acception being Astrobot. That game looks amazing, and would love to play it someday.
I agree with everything you are saying
This kinda thing isnt exactly new too. NES got close to still being active until N64 came out. SNES came out 1990/1991 and N64 came out in 1996. the NES came out in 1985 (1983 jp). NES was still going 3 years after SNES came out.
So, I just checked the prices in my small European country... PS5 Pro (preorder) 890 euros. PS5 slim 630 euros, PS5 digital 510 euros. Thank you, but I'll stick to my PS4, which I bought for 250 euros back in 2019, bundled with three games. It's backlog is full, old games and new, that I bought during five year period. My plan was to wait for PS5 to drop prices, but since it will never happen... Well, it says for itself.
And yes, I will buy new Sonic, thank you.
Sucks that Sonic x Shadow Generations, Metaphor ReFantazio and Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance didn't get physical PS4 versions in America
I agree, it's rather lame that several other counties got a physical release except the us for Ps4.
I'm not sure why they wouldn't since the Xbox version contains both the Xbox One & Series X versions.
Yeah, and I prefer to buy the PS4 versions physical to have the free PS5 upgrade. Why be locked to just one version?
@@felipemartinez9140 Another big game that didn't get a PS4 physical in America is Visions of Mana, I wasn't too thrilled about that.
@@cosmosofinfinityThat's what I don't understand either instead it's only available outside the US. The great thing is some have multilanguage option like Sonic X Shadow Gens and the recent, Lollipop Chainsaw. But if you want the digital stuff, you gotta make an account for those which isn't too hard.
Hell some games don't even get the physical treatment and stay digital.
90% of PS5 games are PS4 Games.
So PS4 games are selling great, cuz you are all playing them on PS5. xD
Why shouldn't old systems get new games? If it can run the game, why not?
Furthermore if it targets the old hardware, that means it should run great on newer systems
Not everyone has $500 to buy a PS5. Some are working 2 jobs just to keep the lights on. They will PS4 for as long as they can.
Sonic Unleashed Pushed The PS3/360 to their limits
@ Yeah, BACK THEN. Not anymore.
That hoodie's colorway is wild 😂
It's such a weird look for him. It looks like something a chain smoking older lady named Brandy wears as she funnels quarters into a slot machine. Probably smells like cheap perfume 😂
PS4 player base is huge and game devs can't ignore it completely. I am happy it's still been supported.
Tell that to most the casual that just play fortnite and cod. There is no reason to upgrade. Plus there is no price drop.
It's like we're living in two different realities.
not a problem when you still rocking the PS4! 😊
I still play ps4 literally have no interest in buying a ps5
PS3 is still a special console for me. I’ve got my backlog that I’m still working through in addition to being excited for my PS5 Pro preorder next month. Especially with being able to use my Dualsense on my PS3, my backlog games still look great on my OLED so I see no reason to get rid of them.
Considering I boycotted PS5 games due to the controller and not being able to back up saves on a USB without a cloud service, I'm glad games are still coming out on PS4.
Also, for me the 2 game series that matter most to me are both still being released on PS4, that being Yakuza and Gran Turismo.
Peakuza🔥
You cant back up saves??
Just one day ago I moved all my saves from PS4 to PS5 with a USB drive
@@ShoXwavee You can do it only for PS4 games. If you try to do it for PS5 games it won't allow it and force you to do it through cloud which I don't have since I don't pay for PSN.
Hey man, I just want to thank you for the videos, hard work you put into them and for not being a console warrior meth freak fanboy like Dreamcastguy. Keep up the amazing work brother. 👍🏼
People seem to forget we got Persona 5 on PS3 in 2016... three years after PS4 was released.
Which I’m pretty sure was release way before that in Japan
@@Crimsongz nope, 2016 in Japan, 2017 in the west.
i think it's pretty developer dependent, sonic games are mostly aimmed towards kids, it makes sense to target the lower end consoles since kids are more likely to have them than the shiny new thing.
Same here. Have a ps4 pro and gaming PC, since some ps5 games came to PC there is no need for me of buying ps5
