Never understood it, I own so many games, full 100k+ retro rom collection, jailbroken ps4, jailbroken switch, jailbroken xbox 360, 20+ xbox one, 10+ quest 2, own 900+ games on steam. The whole point of gaming is enjoyment and uniqueness, modern games gave up, they dont stand out, they arent special, they just want money and sell "realistic" low performance visuals to uneducated gamers.
The majority of PS5 games either have unappealing hyperrealism (GoW Ragnarok and Horizon) or an actually pleasing-to-the-eye style (Rift Apart looks hella good)
Fancy graphics are super overrated in my opinion and never appealed to me. I don't care if a game looks hyperrealistic, I tend to greatly prefer games with amazing and unique art direction.

realism is a red herring here. what matters is that the graphics and game play support each other and things be interactive regardless of art style. but they dont do that anymore and give us a stage that looks real but everything is glued together and is completely dysfunctional . realism can look good too if they dont crap all over it by making things ugly.
I actually do feel like the improvement of graphic fidelity is (or more accurately used to) important, but I also feel like there's a limit as to when it is neccecery to innovate on, and when is it just pushing unnecessary limits for the sake of pushing limits.
What disappoints me most about the "no disk drive" thing, is that last generation Sony was so adamant about the importance of owning your games, and the second hand market and all that stuff amidst the Xbox One drm controversy. Remember that "how to share games on ps4" video they made? Yeah, just one generation later and they pulled a complete 180. It was a lie for some easy PR points in the end. Fucking hypocrites.

Because sales tax in the US varies from 0% to 13.5% depending on which State/municipality you buy in. Also it's actually impossible for a customer to calculate a Value Added Tax because it isn't just a percentage of the price. It's a percentage of the increase in value over the previous form of the product (which is not clearly communicated to the customer). If those countries had a sales tax they very well might just leave it to the customers to work out for themselves. It's not like people who do live in an area with a sales tax are actually surprised by the tax.

12:16 the console is more expensive everywhere actually. I live in Canada, the base PS5 Pro is costing us $960 WITHOUT TAX or ANYTHING else. I did the calculations when they first announced it two weeks ago, including the price of the disc drive in Canada ($100), and the vertical stand ($40), plus the 15% tax rate in Ontario (most populated province in Canada, and my home province), it totals to approx. $1,243 CAD. When you convert that to American, it's just over $922 USD, even though American you'd only be paying roughly $820 USD for the same list of items. So, their charging us an extra $100 in Canada with everything included, and even just the console by itself, no tax calculations, disc drive or stand, we're still being charged $20 more than the US. Sony hates everyone.
For the price of a PS5 Pro + the other stuff you need to make it complete you're better off saving up for a PC. Your accessories will always be compatible with any other PC or steam deck or laptop or whatever. There's no online fees. There's no backward compatibility because you just play just about EVERYTHING that's come out. If it doesn't work? There's probably a mod- if you don't wanna mod? Then play one of the 50,000 other games you can play. I loved consoles, loved them. Drop the game into the drive and you're playing. No PC BS of having to adjust settings or downloading patches or whatever. You just game. It was nice. Then you started needing to download updates for your game and your console. Oh now you gotta install the game. I still loved playing my PS3 but I realized I was bailing to PC that gen. In the time it took to download an update for the PS3 and my game? I could download a full game on PC. (obviously I wasn't testing at the same time) The simplicity and quick go n' game of console was going away fast. Now games launch broken for days or weeks. And yes that happens on all platforms but at least on PC I can either get a refund or adjust settings till they fix performance or whatever. Also making art and whatever else on my PC helps a lot too. Upgrading in increments when you need instead of spending a boat load every gen is nice and also- you can buy controllers with hall effect sticks on PC and not get stick drift. Unlike Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo. And there's affordable controllers that are good like 8bitdo. $50 for a controller with hall effect sticks and grip buttons or $70 for a controller that's going to fail in a year or so.
Or be like, ummmm, get a real job and have multiple PCs in your house and multiple consoles...get the inside track, have 2 PS5pros on the way and scalp one for 2k on ebay....i like my idea better.

Look at most graphically revered games and you'll realize a good half of them are great because of their artstyle, not fidelity. I still boot up Team Fortress 2 or HALO 2 or whatever just to walk around the maps.

The tech's been around for at least a decade and we know they're not using a neural network to do it because the power and processing costs would be untenable. They were trying to do the same thing with laptops and smartphones with "NPU"s (neural processing units) but because the wording implies there is a second actual processor instead of just a processor partition it's something you don't see in marketing as much anymore.
AI upscaling tech has existed for a while regarding GPUs, it's probably just coming with whatever new card the PS5 pro has and not a decision intentionally made by Sony.
I believe dlss is actually based on deep learning (which is what ai usually refers to), and fsr isn't (may be in most recent releases/upcoming one's but marketing corpospeak has made it impossible for me to tell), and pssr is proprietary and stupid and won't tell us. it may well be actually AI based, this sin't a point in their favor of course, they get ai by training it on game footage they only partially have the rights to. AI does in fact fit here, if you were wondering, it's just not necessarily a point in their favor if they were telling the truth.

@@blackface-b1v It will last you longer, you can do incremental upgrades, piracy is easier, online play is free, you have a much larger catalogue of games, a ToS change won't lock you out of your games or console, and you can more reliably pick up games for cheap since "the second hand market" isn't exactly a reliable or consistent thing.

It really isnt. Unless youre using EXCLUSIVELY steam, you won't be able to play shit. Linux does not work whatsoever with any apps. Emulators are also a pain in the ass ro setup and id rather mod the original console.

The specs are decent but struggles to run new games, the gamepad layout isnt ideal for non mouse games and the vents smell very nauseating. The legion go or ally x are better.

Because sales tax in the US varies from 0% to 13.5% depending on which State/municipality you buy in.
Also it's actually impossible for a customer to calculate a Value Added Tax because it isn't just a percentage of the price. It's a percentage of the increase in value over the previous form of the product (which is not clearly communicated to the customer). If those countries had a sales tax they very well might just leave it to the customers to work out for themselves. It's not like people who do live in an area with a sales tax are actually surprised by the tax.

12:16 the console is more expensive everywhere actually. I live in Canada, the base PS5 Pro is costing us $960 WITHOUT TAX or ANYTHING else. I did the calculations when they first announced it two weeks ago, including the price of the disc drive in Canada ($100), and the vertical stand ($40), plus the 15% tax rate in Ontario (most populated province in Canada, and my home province), it totals to approx. $1,243 CAD. When you convert that to American, it's just over $922 USD, even though American you'd only be paying roughly $820 USD for the same list of items. So, their charging us an extra $100 in Canada with everything included, and even just the console by itself, no tax calculations, disc drive or stand, we're still being charged $20 more than the US. Sony hates everyone.

For the price of a PS5 Pro + the other stuff you need to make it complete you're better off saving up for a PC.
Your accessories will always be compatible with any other PC or steam deck or laptop or whatever. There's no online fees. There's no backward compatibility because you just play just about EVERYTHING that's come out. If it doesn't work? There's probably a mod- if you don't wanna mod? Then play one of the 50,000 other games you can play.
I loved consoles, loved them. Drop the game into the drive and you're playing. No PC BS of having to adjust settings or downloading patches or whatever. You just game. It was nice. Then you started needing to download updates for your game and your console. Oh now you gotta install the game.
I still loved playing my PS3 but I realized I was bailing to PC that gen. In the time it took to download an update for the PS3 and my game? I could download a full game on PC. (obviously I wasn't testing at the same time) The simplicity and quick go n' game of console was going away fast.
Now games launch broken for days or weeks. And yes that happens on all platforms but at least on PC I can either get a refund or adjust settings till they fix performance or whatever. Also making art and whatever else on my PC helps a lot too.
Upgrading in increments when you need instead of spending a boat load every gen is nice and also- you can buy controllers with hall effect sticks on PC and not get stick drift. Unlike Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo. And there's affordable controllers that are good like 8bitdo. $50 for a controller with hall effect sticks and grip buttons or $70 for a controller that's going to fail in a year or so.
Or be like, ummmm, get a real job and have multiple PCs in your house and multiple consoles...get the inside track, have 2 PS5pros on the way and scalp one for 2k on ebay....i like my idea better.

Look at most graphically revered games and you'll realize a good half of them are great because of their artstyle, not fidelity. I still boot up Team Fortress 2 or HALO 2 or whatever just to walk around the maps.

@@accountid9681 My issue is they're just rebranding the word "algorithm" to "AI". The tech's been around for at least a decade and we know they're not using a neural network to do it because the power and processing costs would be untenable. They were trying to do the same thing with laptops and smartphones with "NPU"s (neural processing units) but because the wording implies there is a second actual processor instead of just a processor partition it's something you don't see in marketing as much anymore.
AI upscaling tech has existed for a while regarding GPUs, it's probably just coming with whatever new card the PS5 pro has and not a decision intentionally made by Sony.
It just means upscaling but because its an anlgorithm they can put AI in the name.
I believe dlss is actually based on deep learning (which is what ai usually refers to), and fsr isn't (may be in most recent releases/upcoming one's but marketing corpospeak has made it impossible for me to tell), and pssr is proprietary and stupid and won't tell us. it may well be actually AI based, this sin't a point in their favor of course, they get ai by training it on game footage they only partially have the rights to. AI does in fact fit here, if you were wondering, it's just not necessarily a point in their favor if they were telling the truth.

@@blackface-b1v It will last you longer, you can do incremental upgrades, piracy is easier, online play is free, you have a much larger catalogue of games, a ToS change won't lock you out of your games or console, and you can more reliably pick up games for cheap since "the second hand market" isn't exactly a reliable or consistent thing.

I bought a PS5 Digital, platinum'd Stellar Blade and Astro's Playroom, and returned it because holy crap the games on PS5 are EXPENSIVE lmao. Demon's Souls is STILL 70 dollars. FF16 is 70 bucks + 25 for the DLCs, and I could get FF16 + the DLCs for 61 on PC!
I played everything I wanted to play on PS4, I'm not gonna play it again on PS5... but it has literally zero new games I was interested in. So I returned it and I'm just gonna get a PS5 controller for my PC, FF16 for PC, and Black Myth: Wukong for the PC, way cheaper than on PS5.

It really isnt. Unless youre using EXCLUSIVELY steam, you won't be able to play shit. Linux does not work whatsoever with any apps. Emulators are also a pain in the ass ro setup and id rather mod the original console.

@@sparkjunem1859 I have one. Its not even good. The OS, despite what youtubers tell you is actually a billion times worse than windows. The specs are decent but struggles to run new games, the gamepad layout isnt ideal for non mouse games and the vents smell very nauseating. The legion go or ally x are better.
