Great explanation and great insight into why you need to change the garage door pad code. And how to ensure you're the only one who has the code. Thanks!
Thanks for the easy to understand video. I'm a first time homeowner and I was concerned about who had the code. I followed your instructions and reset everything.
Thank you so much! I've had trouble remembering the code to my garage since I moved in. Now I've gotten it changed successfully and got my remotes updated
First clearly understood explanation and demonstration I have found. You might want to reshoot with a flashlight on the "learn" button. But otherwise, great. Thanks.
This is an older video of mine. I am slowly going back and remaking these videos with better light, better camera positions, and better audio. But, I am very glad to help. Thanks for watching.
Thank you Nathan! Excellent video. You gave clear instructions using terms that are easy to understand. I’m able to change the pin on our keypad without difficulty. Great job!!
Can you do the keypad and remotes at the same time? Like if you did the keypad then pushed the learn button again such as in the video to do a remote wouldn't it take off the keypad I just programmed before? I need to reprogram both for a lift master TIA
Ok, I think I understand what you are saying. Let me just say it this way. If you are programming a remote and the keypad, just do them one at a time. Let's say you start with the keypad. So you hit the learn button, then enter your code and hold enter until the main light on the opener flashes. Then hit the learn button again and hold the remote button until the opener light flashes. I hope that makes it clear. It will not clear out the other items. It will only clear things out when you hold the learn button down for like 5 seconds. So, when you want to add items just tap the learn button, don't hold it.
I recently purchased a second remote (universal-no name) for my Liftmaster garage door opener Model 1155LM. After I got it to work, I discovered that my neighbors who have the same garage door opener, when they use their remote, they open and close my garage door as well as theirs. My new remote does not actuate their doors. My old remote and keypad still work as before. How can I reset my garage door opener so that I don’t have to be concerned about someone inadvertently opening and leaving my garage door open?
Yes!! This is our problem!! The keypad has numbers 1-9, asterisk, and pound symbol. To get the garage to open, we put in the code and it automatically opens. We don't have to press enter. But it needs to be changed due to security issues! It's a Liftmaster brand, but there's no info anywhere!
Thanks for the instructions, I followed each step, but it is not working, the light bulb does not blink, I even change two different light bulbs and not having luck. Any suggestions? I have a Chamberlain LiftMaster 1/3 HP
The year on the label of the garage opener shows 10/1995, and it does have the door laser sensors, I cleaned to make sure that dust was not an issue. I was told that I need to replace the logic board?
The reason I asked about the lasers is there was a model just a little older then yours that did not have lasers and did have trouble resetting. Yours is a different model then the one that I was thinking about. You might contact Chamberlain and talk to them. They are actually pretty helpful. www.chamberlain.com/
What if your garage code opener doesn’t have an enter button? Only * and # with the numbers? I moved into a new home and I’m trying to fix this but nothing is working
Just moved in to a house and I never got the original code. I did this in order to reset it but nothing happens. It seems to have a good battery and the keypad lights up fine. What else can I do ??
Hi, when I hit enter on my keypad, even without the code, the door opens. I reset code, the door still does it. Any advice? It's a Sears Best/ Craftsman 1/2 HP
Honestly, I don't especially since you reset it. That probably would have been the only advice I would have. Probably need to call the manufacturer. I know that's not what you wanted to hear.
It resets every code in the opener, including standard openers, keypads, and the built in openers in the car as well. But putting the codes back in should be quick and easy. Thank you for watching. Check out hundreds more of our videos at www.aroundthehome.org
My Liftmaster wouldn't close my garage door from the inside or outside, but it would open the garage door from the outside. Following your instructions, it now won't open garage door from the outside or the inside. Following your instructions, keypad no longer works either. Any advice?
I don't have enough details here. I keep hearing you say per my instructions. I showed you how to reset the codes so that you know that only your devices and only your keypad code would work. Had nothing to do with the opener not being able to open or close the door.
No serial number match up, assuming we are talking about a LiftMaster or a Chamberlain fairly modern unit with a learn button on it. If you are buying a new one at the store because there are like 4 different generations of these openers, the instructions for the Chamberlain replacement remotes are a little more in depth. Just follow the instructions for the remote. They actually differentiate by the color of the learn button on the opener. Here is an Amazon Link for what I believe that you need. www.amazon.com/Chamberlain-G953EV-P2-LiftMaster-Craftsman-Compatible/dp/B004RB73D0?crid=1FYJIUR2RCRC8&dchild=1&keywords=chamberlain+remote&qid=1614739848&sprefix=chamberlain+re%2Caps%2C211&sr=8-5&linkCode=ll1&tag=greatwhitenin-20&linkId=83bd1cf137c5fab16bfd1678bebebf63&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl It covers just about every opener made since 1993 for Chamberlain, LiftMaster, and Craftsman.
Erasing the codes like this isn't working for me. I have the same garage door opener without a keypad. Just a remote. I push the little button and hold it, but the little light just stays on. It doesn't turn off. I've held it for 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 30 seconds, a minute, and nothing. My remote still works and my neighbors remote still opens my garage. Help!
It sounds like your main drive gear has broke. It happened to mine once. I don't have a video on rebuilding these. Not yet at least. Here is a good video talking about that and shows pretty good what is wrong. This is not a full rebuild video. th-cam.com/video/kWQ_hZ-t3RE/w-d-xo.html If this is what is wrong with your opener then you can order the parts pretty cheaply, well compared to a new opener, and rebuild it. After doing it myself I would say that it takes barely anymore skill to do that then it does to install a new opener. Now, if you are like "If I'm going to put that much effort into an old opener then I just want to put a new one in". Then this is a link to a good opener. www.amazon.com/Chamberlain-B2405-Smartphone-Controlled-Ultra-Wireless/dp/B09W2ZHZPQ?crid=368FEBI93AM2M&keywords=chamberlain%2Bgarage%2Bdoor%2Bopener&qid=1664229439&sprefix=chamberl%2Caps%2C120&sr=8-1-spons&th=1&linkCode=ll1&tag=greatwhitenin-20&linkId=94a6de331fabdb7313efd755d9786dba&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl I hope that helps.
I'm curious about that. The craftsman products, which you may know, were not make by craftsman. They all were made by other major manufactures and just put the craftsman name on it. So yours might actually by a chamberlain. I worked on one last year in about that age range that had a smart learn button, but I could not reset it. It confused me because I never came across that before. I called Chamberlain to find out why it would not reset, because another remote in the neighborhood was activating it so I needed to get it reset. They asked me if it had the sensors. I told them no. Apparently there was a model that was made for 2 years that did have a smart learn button, but before the safety sensors and it could not clear the codes. Obviously that was a mistake and they fixed it with a newer model. Long story short, because of those two safety problems, lack of sensors and inability to reset the codes, they sent my customer a new opener for free. It didn't have the track, just the new opener and sensors and 1 remote. But I was like wow. You might try contacting them and see if your model falls into that category. Here is a link to their website. www.chamberlain.com/
Okay, so... I managed to wipe the code for my keypad. But, the new code didn't take. So now no code works. Fine. I have a side door with a key. The internal remote (hardwired, I guess) works. I "married" my car/slant personal remote to the unit, no problem. My unit is slightly different from yours in the video. And your instructions didn't work for the remote pad. How do I fix this? (Note: I watched your video 5 times, followed your instructions to a "T".) How many seconds from descending the ladder to the keypad is too long? My keypad is on the back porch, not by the garage door. Maybe 20 second walk away.
I think around 20 seconds is the time limit for the learn button. If your keypad is a walk around and then you still have to enter the code sounds like you are timing out. You probably need a second person to help you out.
@@AroundTheHome1 Wow! I honestly didn't expect a reply from you (let alone this quickly!), thinking another commenter might clue me in. Thank you! I suspect the thing is timing out, as you suggest. I'll get my wife to help me set this when i feel it's necessary. The reason I'm doing any of this is I've had power tools go missing and yesterday I found my garage door open first thing in the morning. Not happy. Older house, newer garage-- no idea who knew the code (we just bought this place 2 months ago, so...). Again, thank you!
The keypad should be the same. Just push the learn button, then type in your 4 digit code and hold enter. I have come across some replacement keypads that are a little more complicated though. They should have the instructions on the inside of the flap.
Ok, first a couple of questions. What year was it manufactured? Is it a Lift Master or Chamberlain brand? Does it have those light sensors at the door?
@@AroundTheHome1 I think it's from around 2009 "Clicker Model KLIK2U " I was able to find the instructions after a bit of googling. 1. push "*" + "#" until lights stop blinking. 2. Enter your desired Pin 4 digit then press "#" 3. Enter the ID for your opener. (for me it was "3") 4. Press the learn button. 5. Enter your pin then press 0. (Light should flash if worked) 6. Wait until lights tun off on key pad then you can enter your pin and press 0.
There is a model of this that is quite old and it will not actually reset the codes. Is yours a Lift Master or a Chamberlain? Does it have the safety laser sensors?

If it is some generic / universal remote then you need to look up the instructions specific to that model.
Thanks

What if you don’t have an enter button?!
What do you use to make the door go up or down?
What opener is that?
A LiftMaster made by Chamberlain.
Nice point. The. Best. But. No. Battery

Can’t find the learn button
It's possible if yours is old enough, then it doesn't have one.
2:10 start
I don't have an enter button
How old is yours? There should be a manufacture date close to the serial number.
@@AroundTheHome1 I think it's from around 2009 "Clicker Model KLIK2U " I was able to find the instructions after a bit of googling.
1. push "*" + "#" until lights stop blinking.
2. Enter your desired Pin 4 digit then press "#"
3. Enter the ID for your opener. (for me it was "3")
4. Press the learn button.
5. Enter your pin then press 0. (Light should flash if worked)
6. Wait until lights tun off on key pad then you can enter your pin and press 0.
That's good to hear.
For me it didnt work for some reason
Do you have the safety sensors on yours?
Didn't work for me
Do you have safety laser sensors on yours?
Oh dear God you talked way too long before you got to the instructions!
It happens.
Ha!! Yeah because we all know 5 minutes and 52 seconds is just terribly long for free advice that can save you real time and money! Come on Jeri....
Skip to the end then Karen, Jesus.

Didn’t work
There is a model of this that is quite old and it will not actually reset the codes. Is yours a Lift Master or a Chamberlain? Does it have the safety laser sensors?
Muchas gracias... got it done!
