Thank you for that tutorial on how to fix a garage door that reopens after closing! Your video was the only one I found that fixed my Genie garage door. It even opens more smoothly now.
Thank you for this video! This was the same button configuration on my door opener, manual long since gone from 3 owners ago. The steps you performed didn’t work for me initially. I kept going through the comments to find others who noted that combers and leaves blocking the sensors were the culprit. After some trial and error, I discovered it was the pull rope a former owner had tied to the bottom of the door to operate it manually. It was swinging into the path of the sensor. I secured it to the door to keep it out of the way, and now the door functions properly!
You are welcome, and awesome job making it a DIY project and pinpointing the swinging rope as the culprit. Trial and error paid off and we appreciate you taking the time to share this. 😁👍

Our door will not close with out pressing down the button on the wall the entire time it closes. It will also start going up while trying to close and you have to press the button several times to stop the going up and get it to close again. Will resetting the travel cure the problem? I followed these instructions and the garage door no longer opens on its own, however, the small light next to the yellow button on the garage opener keeps blinking, any idea why?
Good morning ☕️ that’s awesome. As far as the blinking light, you may need to just reset your unit. We recommend unplugging the unit from the ceiling outlet receptacle and leaving unplugged for a minimum of five minutes. This will allow your system to fully reset.
Hello Sir! I used the tips on your video and no matter how many times I try, the garage door just won't stay shut and opens back up. It almost wants to close then opens back up even after programming the travel system. Am I missing something? Any help would be appreciated so much. Thanks!
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders I apologize for such a late reply. No other work has been done. The only thing that changed was that I used a blower to clean up some debris in the garage but it did not touch the garage door sensors. The problem still remains.
@@paritoshyalavarthi5764 Thanks for the reply, are the sensor light illuminated? If the lights are not illuminated, carefully adjust the sensors until they are facing each other & lights turn on.
I had this problem, I knew how to adjust it. But still would not fix it. I found a cobweb that had a small leaf hanging and it will interrupt the light beam. Removed it and voila!! Fixed

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Yes, I am able to reprogram. Actually I reprogrammed it 3 months ago. It seemed to be OK, but in the last 2 weeks, the problem was back again.
@@bluemoon9868 That’s no fun, you may find it best to fully unplug system from upper ceiling outlet and leave unplugged for 30 minutes. This will allow your system to fully reset.
Good morning, just poured a cup of coffee and am sitting down to answer any and all questions for the DIY community. Any update on your findings? Is the bulb properly secured? Ready to call a repairman then remembered TH-cam. Easy fix. Thanks so much. Why would this all of a sudden start happening?
Thanks for watching & we appreciate you sharing this. Several things can cause this unfortunately.
1. Wrong brand of LED bulbs
2. New home WiFi install
3. New home security system install
4. Added power lines around home
Hope all is well with you. 😎👍
Also disconnect the door (handle) with the manual pull and reattach it. mine had so much tension on it I believe that was the culprit.
Awesome, thanks for sharing this Michael. 😎👍
Worked for me, thank you so much

THANK YOU. holy 💩. I was so nervous about telling my husband I messed up the garage by programming a new remote but this video saved my 🍑. 😂
Thanks for the info, just fixed my garage door with the same problem
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching. Let us know if you have any questions.

Our door will not close with out pressing down the button on the wall the entire time it closes. It will also start going up while trying to close and you have to press the button several times to stop the going up and get it to close again. Will resetting the travel cure the problem? The remote in the cars will open but not closed the door. When you try closing it with the remote, the light blinks festively and the door doesn’t move

We really do. Sometimes its hard to pay for services all the time. I always try to do it myself. And have been getting better. I installed a broken spring on the door.

Well done! 😀👍
what about when the door keep opening and close by itself? i change board circuit, limit switch and sensors and still doing, I'm going crazy my my garage door, what else you recommend to look for?
Thanks for watching, did you reprogram Travel System?
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders yes we did it and nothing works but we found out that the wall remote was causing a short and was opening and closing the door, too bad that I spend $$$ on new parts when the problem was there on wall remote

We appreciate you sharing this update.
Adjusting the travel (specially on the close position) will make the moving parts last longer. Thank you for sharing this video.

This video usually works for me (I always return to it) but today it still came back open after the travel adjustment. I'm not sure what to do now?
same here, ever resolve it?
Thx for the tip!
Same issue
Me too
I have the same problem. I think my roller door is out of alignment. i.e left is higher than right. Cause it to bit while operating by the motor
Today I hit the open button on the wall, the garage door opened, then reversed and put a hole thru my car. This is a new home( about a year old). I grabbed the opener inside the vehicle and reversed it. The temperature dropped 30 degrees last night, any thoughts on potential causes? I’m afraid now to park a car in the garage
I should have explained garage door came down while I was backing out
Thanks for your help.
You are very welcome Karra, and a special thanks to you for taking the time out of your Tuesday afternoon to share this comment, it means the world to us.
When programing my garage door opener the door will not stop when the up or down button is released. Any suggestions for this issue?
Good morning, that’s a bummer. We are drinking our morning coffee answering any and all questions for the DIY community.
Here’s what we recommend, unplug unit from ceiling outlet and leave unplugged for a minimum of five minutes. This will allow your system to perform a full reset. After five minutes, plug unit back in and perform re-programming of Travel System. Keep us posted.
Also if you’re into crypto trading, join our DIY ecosystem. Exciting Roadmap ahead.

Thank you for such a quick response.
I have unplugged the unit overnight but did not unplug the battery backup. I'll try unplugging both again and start over with the programming.

Thanks!
Thanks for watching. Has there been any recent work completed to home in last month...security system...WiFi/internet install...power lines...?
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders I apologize for such a late reply. No other work has been done. The only thing that changed was that I used a blower to clean up some debris in the garage but it did not touch the garage door sensors. The problem still remains.
@@paritoshyalavarthi5764
Thanks for the reply, are the sensor light illuminated? If the lights are not illuminated, carefully adjust the sensors until they are facing each other & lights turn on.
I had this problem, I knew how to adjust it. But still would not fix it. I found a cobweb that had a small leaf hanging and it will interrupt the light beam. Removed it and voila!! Fixed
Very cool, we appreciate you sharing your experience. Great to hear it was just a leaf. 😎👍
I do not understand why you had to press the button three times back and forth from 2:26 to 2:36. What was that for?
@@bluemoon9868
Thanks for watching, that’s just the internal coding of the computer. Following your systems exact programming steps will get you the best results.
What kind of unit do you have, we can hopefully help.
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Thank you so much for your help. Every time I press the down button on the remote , my garage door starts going down but then always goes back up when it is about 4 inches from the floor. Then the light flashes, and I have to press the down button on the remote again for a second time. Then it works.
@@bluemoon9868
We are happy to help. Are you able to reprogram your Travel System…?… or is the unit not letting you?
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Yes, I am able to reprogram. Actually I reprogrammed it 3 months ago. It seemed to be OK, but in the last 2 weeks, the problem was back again.
@@bluemoon9868
That’s no fun, you may find it best to fully unplug system from upper ceiling outlet and leave unplugged for 30 minutes. This will allow your system to fully reset.
My light keeps flashing on the left side( the side that doesn't have the buttons) and everything else works. What can it be?
Good morning, just poured a cup of coffee and am sitting down to answer any and all questions for the DIY community.
Any update on your findings? Is the bulb properly secured? A loose bulb can cause this. In addition to a bulb being loose, the bulb itself may be in its early stages of failure and blinking sporadically. Might be a good time to replace bulb. Keep us posted.
