We watched probably 50 videos. This was the first one that talked about checking the buttons to see if the light came on. BINGO! one side of the panel was dead and that's why we couldn't reprogram the keypad.
Say what you will about the gloves and safety glasses, this guy helped!!!

This is the second video I watched and the first one that fixed the problem. Some of the buttons didn't work, unbeknownst to me. This video had me step through all the numbers to see which didn't work. Good choice. Thanks very much.

Gloves and goggles are appropriate ppe for handling batteries with potential corrosion or ruptures from being used in external applications where heat and cold are an issue. Suit yourself if you don’t want to use them, but a professional should recommend them.

Nice video - i took mine apart and cleaned the contacts which helps too. Thats what I was hoping you were going to demonstrate instead of just buying a whole new unit. Better to take the unit inside and in a dark area where you can see the keys light up too.
I am all about safety too but there is absolutely nothing in this video that requires gloves or eyewear for safety. Thanks for posting

Hi, Todd! My keypad started working sporadically a few days ago. This morning when it didn't work, I used my garage door app on my phone to close and open the door. When I closed the door with the app, I noticed that the opener unit on the ceiling of the garage beeped for a few seconds and the light flashed during the beeping, and then the door closed. Any ideas on what all that means? BTW, thank you for your easy-to-follow instructions!

Kind of an off question. But, will my Chamberlian wall keypad (940EV-P2) open my Liftmaster 81602 garage door during a power outage? The garage opener has a battery back up installed - but wasn't too sure if or how the keypad and the opener will work together in the event of a power outage? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I cannot find any info regarding this...

Hi Todd, I recently replaced the battery in my liftmaster and now when the garage door is open and I hit the "Enter" button, it no longer closes unless I type the code in first. I know before replacing the battery I could just hit the "Enter" button and the garage door would close. Do you happen to know how to resolve this? Thanks!

    • @nickdamagede9502

Leigh M. I have experienced the same thing on my keypad. I replaced the batteries and it will no longer close when hitting the enter button alone. Sometimes I had to hit it twice and it would close, no code needed. Now if I open the door by the keypad, and when the keypad is still flashing it will close just by hitting enter. But once the keypad stops flashing it no longer works by just hitting enter. I see there has been no responses on a fix or an reason why this did it. If you gotten a response any other way please let us know. Thank You in advance.

This adds up to "how to change a battery" plus "how to push some buttons to see if they light up." I'm pretty sure most people already know this. Plus "how to remove the keypad from the wall and add a new one." (Unscrew it behind the battery and slide it upward off the second screw. See how easy this is?) Honestly, how many people can't do these simple things? Here's a question you don't address which seems much more important: If my battery is fine because all the buttons light up, and if the garage door works just fine, BUT it no longer works from the keypad, what else might be wrong? It's probably in the electronics inside the keypad, isn't it? See? I knew I'd stump you with an actual hard question. Next week: How to change a light bulb for those scared of light bulbs.

I discovered that one of my battery wires had come loose from the circuit board. The only way to get to the circuit board is to take the back off. That's the hard part. I used a thin blade and worked my way around the back until the back pops off. I don't think the back is supposed to ever come off but it's possible. I then soldered the loose wire to the circuit board, reassembled and all is well now. You need patience to do what I did. It's a PITA

    • @VirginiaSRQ
      @VirginiaSRQ ปีที่แล้ว +1

Peter - same happened to ours. As you indicated, getting the back off was challenging -- thanks for the suggestion and tip about using a thin blade -- took me several minutes but I eventually released the back and found the red wire disconnected. Also found corrosion on the board and cleaned with CRC electrical cleaner and soldered on red wire. Our keypad was pretty beat up by Hurricane Ian.

My neighbor's keypad wouldn't work, so I told him to watch this video... It started working after he put on rubber gloves.

Ohio alert:. These damn things don't work in cold weather, or especially in our always lovely March - April. So I added some grade 2 insulation and installed a polymer seal to prevent....wait, what? jk, we moved to Florida.

I have a brand new keypad and brand new battery. It only works if i remove it from the house and get really close to the opener, inside the garage. Any ideas?

I suspected it was my battery, but I wanted to watch a fix-it video just in case I’m glad I did because you had mentioned after changing the battery test the keypad to make sure that it lights up and while the old battery was still good, the keypad was not lighting up so after changing the battery, everything worked fine so that was a good instructional tip to make sure that the keypad lights up after you change out the battery. So while the old battery was still had some charge, it wasn’t enough to activate the keyboard or the remote sensor so changing out the battery fixed my issue.

Came home from and event this afternoon, and the keypad would not work. Borrowed a brand new battery from my neighbor still no go. After multiple attempts door finally opened. I found this video and immediately discovered on my keypad The zero button did not work. Changed my pin and all is well. Thanks for the fix! Saved me $40 for a new one.

I saved $79 + tax because I didn't need to buy a new key pad. Problem was a dead number key. I cleaned the unit and reprogrammed with a new 4 digit code. Works like new! Thanks.

Neither keypad (there are two), nor the remote are working. They worked this morning (went up and down) but 10 hours later, the door went up but not back down. The keypad is powered, lights, etc., and remote, all have new batteries.
There are a million videos about what to do if the keypad blinks 10 times. But after putting in the code (to go back down), it flashes very quickly, then slows down and flashes as described many places everywhere but it blinks like 30 times.
The sensor eyes are clear but on one the light is green, but not steady. The other, there’s a plug so I don’t know where to look for the light - because of the plug, it’s not where the light on the other side is. I don’t know if it’s a sensor problem, though, because when the code is entered, the door doesn’t make a sound or attempt to come down at all. In the past, the door has come down, and gone back up but that I was able to fix by clearing ice off the ledge on the bottom of the door, etc. I can’t see how that would be a problem when the door won’t budge.
    Help!!!
