Never had a keypad till I moved into my condo. I've lived here 3 1/2 years, never knew about pressing enter only, to close. Will check out the battery also and how to change the code. Thanks Scott. Always something good here. :)
Thank you for the video! I had changed my combination because the keypad numbers worn down. I was able to break open the keypad and clean off the circuit -with steel wool - where the pads had left residue on the circuit. Glued back together and all good!
I had changed the battery but it still wasn't working -- I didn't realize the number sensors might wear out. I tried a new set and *bingo* it worked. Thank you!
OMG! Thanks so much. I was thinking that I had to replace the remote and after watching this I realized that we had just worn the numbers out by using the same ones for so long. The remote works again. Yay! You really can learn from watching others do things.
Thank you. I just found my keypad won't light up as it should and wouldn't open the door. Watching this video taught me a lot. I always thought the keypad was hardwired into the garage. I have the chamberlain brand. Seeing this I know I can fix this on my own. Thank you!
There again. I never knew that pushing the ENTER button will close the door. A hint to all that when programming the unit just be carful the other neighbors are not doing their own programming at the same time. It happened to me and when I opened mine, it also opened my neighbor’s door. It took me a while to figure it out. Thank you for sharing. Very informative as always
You mentioned that sometimes the keypad wears out on frequently used keys. I had notice that mine worked intermittently and sometimes I noticed pressing a key either did or did not light things up. Put in a new code not using any of the old numbers and it works great again. Thanks!
I had the same problem. I reprogrammed 10 times and it wouldn't work. So tried new numbers and it works fine now. Thank you for saving me time and money.
Not all openers support the 1 button close. I replaced the Keypad after having changing codes a few times over the years. I was going to setup the 1 button close feature, but the instructions said it wasn't available on openers manufactured prior to 2006, the case for my craftsman opener.
I thought mine was broken/insecure. I didn't realize that only "open" requires the 4 digit code. Thank you. You are better than the Chamberlain documentation.
Thanks for the well done video. I looked at several before getting to your video which helped me resolve the problem without buying a new keypad. I changed the keypad to four different numbers since the other numbers were worn down over the last ten years.
Tip: remember to inspect each key especially the enter key. Sometimes the rubber coating gets stuck depressed inwards. The keypad will not longer work if this happens. Gently pry outwards any stuck keys with your fingernail and try again.
Hahaha, I know. I actually only learned that recently. Also handy if your neighbor leaves their door open at night on accident, you can just walk over and press enter to help them out.
@@onyourbloccK I have two different craftsman openers. The older one will not close when just pressing enter. Whereas the newer one will always close with just enter. The difference is that the newer one has a down arrow on the enter button, but the older one just says enter and does not have an arrow printed on the button.
Really helpful, never knew that just pushing enter would close door without the code and one of my numbers was worn out so I just changed the code and presto….worked perfectly.
Wow, great video! I had no idea that the keypad was not hard wired. My door problems seemed to have started when I programmed a new car to the opener this weekend. Today, I cleaned the light sensors at the bottom of the door and my wife was able to open the door with her remote again. My new car will open the door from the mirror, but the dang keypad for some reason won’t work. I replaced the battery, but no go. Call me shocked. My keypad has been out for 6 months and I was about to call an electrician because I didn't see anything wrong with the "wiring". How shocked I was when you said it had a battery. Unscrewed mine and there was the 9v battery. Why does it look like there is a small white wire running from the front of the garage to the opener motor??? THANK YOU SO MUCH for solving my problem.
Thanks!! I only needed to change the battery and voila! The backlights were all working but this simple act of changing the battery fixed the problem. I believe it was the original battery since installation.
thank you sir. Went out and changed the battery and now the keypad works fine. I told my wife I just cant be doing this stuff for free that she will have to pay. She gave me a high five.
Good info. Nice reminder/tip about using the "enter" button (at the bottom of the keypad) to 'close' an open door. We've had powered garage doors for decades, and only 'discovered' this was a feature a few years ago [we used to enter the 4-digit code anytime we wanted to open AND/OR close the door]
Excellent video I’ve tried changing the battery it still didn’t work then I replaced it. Thank you for showing how easy it is to replace. It worked very quickly within five minutes. Very helpful
Very helpfull video. The instructions that came with my universal remote were completely different then the steps in this video and did not pair the remote to my Genie 2028 opener. After watching this video I was able to pair my remote in about 30 seconds.

I am sure that new battery last more than 2 days. My problem is that why my keypad don't hold 4 digit code and why I have to replace battery very often, Please help me. Thanks.
Have you tried changing your code and not using any of the same numbers? Wonder if 1 of the numbers in the current number sequence you are using has a bad switch on the circuit board. Might be worth a try.
@@EverydayHomeRepairs Thanks for your quick reply. Realy appreciate you. We rarely use key pad. But everytime I check code was not working, even I change battery it may work one or two times. But after I watching this video yesterday, I come up another video in recombination by TH-cam, it tells that take 9v battery out and check connector, it may be loose. which I did and found out that -ve pole of connector from keypad was spinnig, so I took small punch and hit with hammer on it and fix the connector, and problem solved. Lets see how long it last.
Thanks. Great information! When I enter my code and hit enter, all the numbers flash in unison, and the door will not open. Could this be a battery issue?
Thanks everyone for this post. I’m from the northeastern area of the USA and we were caught in some extreme weather recently. I thought maybe that had something to do with it.( Cold, Ice etc..) You are all confirming what I believe is a low battery issue. Happy New Year 🎉
Just replaced the battery last night. I noticed right away all the lights were much brighter and sure enough the keypad works great now. Let’s all have a Brighter New Year.🌞✨🎉
Good video. Although I don't use the pad too often, the battery never lasts very long. I always test the new battery before replacing the older one, so I'm sure the new battery is good. Appreciate your advice. Bob
Thank you. It was still difficult, but your video helped a lot. There’s got to be a better way to make these so that you can open it and replaced the batteries without so much trouble.
haha I always thought mine was hardwired. Thanks for the concise video. My battery finally died after over 10 years. Just be careful, the battery was rusted to the connector and I almost broke the battery clip taking the battery out.
As a Christian, I appreciate people who treat others the same way that they would like to be treated by sharing invaluable help. Thank you for relieving me of just one more unnecessary headache
@@YoungBlaze I'm an atheist and it also helped me so I'd say yes. Also, no one has a monopoly on being kind so we are all covered there as well. Have a great day 😃
As a human, I appreciate people who treat others and live by the golden rule. Christians do not have a monopoly on morals and ethics. I actually find that many self proclaimed religious people find some need in it. I do not. And can also improve upon biblical morals. Does this make me a better person than god? Maybe… in theory it does, that’s a fact. Just being a bit of a smart booty but I had to. Free will is also not a thing… spread love and be kind. I hope you can hear this msg in a positive and kind tone as that’s what I intend it to be heard with… the golden rule sure does go a long long way. But to get us the rest the way to near perfect action is to also not assume others want to be treated exactly like we do and ask. And as long as the treatment doesn’t violate a law or your own set of morals and ethics that’s actually an even better way to go about it… anyway, just trying to make the Bible better.. and don’t forget to change your garage key pad and batteries!
Scott, thank you for this video in that it cleared up how this keypad operates that I didn't realize. One question, however, I have a Craftsman garage door keypad and opener. I can open that garage door by entering the code and pressing Enter. I can then just press Enter to close the garage door. However, if I press the Enter key again with no code entered the garage door opens again. Does this ability to open the garage door by just pressing the Enter key time out? If so, how long does it take to time out? This is an obvious security risk if it does not time out.
We've got a Chamberlain just like this one. It's 2 months old. It opens the door with the number code every time on the first try - BUT - when we try to close the door using the Enter key, it is unpredictable. Sometimes it works on the first try, more often we have to stand there for a few minutes and push the Enter button until it closes. Sometimes we have to push it 30 or more times before it works. There are no other issues at all - all the vehicle remotes work on the first try - open or close - and the hardwired button by the kitchen door works every time. The only issue is closing the door with the keypad. Ideas?
Liftmaster remote doesn't light keypad after battery change, it may be 10 years old but used less than 30 times. Always hated it as the buttons were too squishy always getting stuck in the down position, so rarely used it. Think I'll just remove and not replace as I have electronic locks on all my doors.
I just happen to have a Chamberlain, and I was hoping you were going to address another issue with the cover - which is that a good wind will raise the cover and leave it raised. Because the cover doesn't "snap" into place in the down position, I was hoping you had an idea of a nice rig for it that "on the outside" doesn't mar its appearance. I am subscribed, but I did so on another video you have regarding electrical wiring.
Thank you for the video it was very helpful. But after trying all troubleshooting, still not working. So I know it’s time for a new pad. The one I have now is 877LM. Do I need to replace with the same model or is there one that will work better. I was pleased with the garage door installation. But had problems with battery not fitting right into the key pad. They Mickey Mouse’s the fit by inserting a small folded card board so that the connection would take. I also had to replace battery several times a year.. Thank you…
The suggestion to replace the battery is a good one. Everyone attempting to reprogram their wall mounted key pad ought to replace the battery at the outset. It could be contributing to your problem and it's probably due for replacement.
I was fixing one of my garage door buttons when the keypad stopped working. I thought they were related but probably not. It had also gotten very cold that night. After much troubleshooting, it turns out that one of the keys did not work. Reprogrammed it and now it’s working fine.
Thanks a lot for another excellent video! I never knew you can just press ENTER button to close the door before. I have a different problem with my old Craftsman opener. The opener works fine when I press the button on the wall control. It also opens the door in response to keypad or remote control, but it does not close after I press keypad or remote control. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
Right now my LEDs are staying on, killing the battery fast. Is there a code to turn them off? Maybe a key press put them into 'stay on' mode. ? The pad isn't even a year old and rarely used. Thanks.
Great video, but I can't get my light to blink when I hold the enter butyon after I try to change the pin. I've tried multiple times and when I press and hold enter no blink or sound.

@@coltoncaballero Replacing the battery in the keypad solved it.
@johnmclaughlin9325 well what do you know! I had the same exact problem and replacing the battery did the job.
@@ANJIN-p4q Great to hear it. Merry Christmas. Cheers!
Bob
Battery should last for years unless backlight is stuck ON...
Thank you. It was still difficult, but your video helped a lot. There’s got to be a better way to make these so that you can open it and replaced the batteries without so much trouble.
Push against the top part battery cover then slide it down and should come off with ease
Thank you!!! Ordered a new keypad and hoping that does the trick.
Yeah, some times it is well worth just getting a new one to save time.
Excellent instructions, I have resolved the issue with my keypad.
haha I always thought mine was hardwired. Thanks for the concise video. My battery finally died after over 10 years. Just be careful, the battery was rusted to the connector and I almost broke the battery clip taking the battery out.
I just replaced the battery. Thanks for the backlight tip. I’ll check that
When you replace your battery do you have to put your code back in to the opener again
Thank you! The backlight was on, but I went ahead and put in a new battery as you suggested and it is working again!
Great! 👍
As a Christian, I appreciate people who treat others the same way that they would like to be treated by sharing invaluable help. Thank you for relieving me of just one more unnecessary headache
Happy to help!
? What if you were not a Christian? Could this still help me?
@@YoungBlaze I'm an atheist and it also helped me so I'd say yes. Also, no one has a monopoly on being kind so we are all covered there as well. Have a great day 😃
I agree!
Thank you! This solved my issue exactly, keys were worn out (13 years old)
This video was a big help. It saved me the expense of calling an electrician. I thought the keypad was electric wired.
20 seconds
Greetings Scott thank you for your video. I have a Craftsman. My issue is I got new remotes & keypad. I paired them up they work then stop. Idk why???
Once again TH-cam to the rescue! Thanks!
nice! Changed my code to avoid the old numbers and it worked! Thanks!
Thank you! Your video is so simple and easy to follow. You made my Thanksgiving even better the garage door is now working.
Thanks Nora, appreciate the kind words and have a great Thanksgiving 🦃
Thank you so much! You have saved me quite a bit of money, ordering a new keypad now. Thank you thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing this information ~ it's just what I needed. Wishing you and your loved ones many blessings!
Thank you so much for this! I had no idea these were so simple. You just saved me worry and money.
You are so welcome!
Thankyou was about to purchase new keypad but your tip was right on put in new code with new numbers worked like a charm
Thanks very much I entered a new code and it works fine now. I can bring back the new keypad from Home Depot and save $42.00!
Thank you making this video. Such a simple fix to something I thought was a way bigger problem. Clear and concise. I will definitely be subscribing.
Thanks for the tip, saved me $100, easily just a new code with 4 other digits. Will these wear out and then have to buy a new one?
Right now my LEDs are staying on, killing the battery fast. Is there a code to turn them off? Maybe a key press put them into 'stay on' mode. ? The pad isn't even a year old and rarely used. Thanks.
Great video, but I can't get my light to blink when I hold the enter butyon after I try to change the pin. I've tried multiple times and when I press and hold enter no blink or sound.
