- I've been working on this video for the past year. Doing research to make sure i don't get anything wrong and watching every single franchise. It is an incredible endeavor and I wish the best of luck for anyone who decides to tackle this franchise. Hopefully this guide will help you out in sorting where to start or whichever should you pick up.
Even if you're not into Gundam I hope you can appreciate the way this video turned out. The logistic being this sorting was an absolute nightmare.

Great video, man! However, your UC chronological order is a bit off. If I may: 08th MS Team takes place DURING the One Year War, so it should be watched AFTER 0079. 0080: War in the Pocket happens after it, followed by 0083.....THEN Zeta Gundam, ZZ Gundam, Char’s Counterattack, Unicorn, and Narrative. Just a little mixup, but still a really well thought out video. Keep up the great work, man!!
You also forget Origin and MS Igloo. With Origin starting off followed by MS Igloo. Granted that is only for a true chronology.
I also noticed that he put "Subbed and Dubbed" for Gundam ZZ, but no dub was ever made for ZZ. Just a nitpick though.

A channel with no content there was a really bad dub back in the day but it was incomplete and so horrible that they’ve removed most evidence of it like the Star Wars Christmas special

I disagree i'd say Thunderbolt is on top it's highly underrated. IBO is great but it didn't catch me on the emotional side and I kinda hate when Gundam has to "alter" the body just to control a MS. I like it when the MS is basically just a "tool" just a normal everyday weapon anyone can use (with training) regardless of the type, be it a normal MS or a "Gundam". "Newtype" & "Seed Factor" are part of natural evolution in the Gundam universe so I can accept those.
I also kinda disagree... it doesnt really have the same theme the other shows have as it instead focuses on mercenaries and a little bit on the independence of mars while most others focus on the whole earth people vs space people and the tragedies of war... so if someone watches ibo first they would get a bit of a wrong impression about what gundam offers... id suggest starting with 00 mostly because thats what i first watched and it still got across the message of war is bad... but u know it has its weird things... u know seed would have been a good alternative if only it wasnt mediocre till it went retard mode in the last 15 episodes or so... and seed destiny also which tbh started better but went batshit crazy when they swapped the mc from that kamile clone to jesus yamato...

Build Divers actually isn't part of the same timeline as Build Fighters.
gundam build diver (new symbiosis)
follows a group of kids as they pilot their gunpla in VR mmorpg. While similar to the build fighters series it is a stand alone show fro both kids and adults
p.s and the DUB is EXCELLENT as well
to my knowledge, it actually IS connected, but its just way in the future. remember the stadium that the No Name Astray pilot fought Ko-1 in? confirmed remnants of the old Plavsky Partical arenas.

Yes it has similar tech to Yajima's tech at the end of Build Fighters but there are two major things that tell you it's vastly different. 1 is the shape, build fighters were octagons and made to connect and make larger stadiums more easy the GP Duel stadiums are square bases with round arena's. 2. If you look at the control set ups, they are also vastly different one was used the particles to make the controls and had customized options to make piloting easier, while GPD has 100 physical controls and display. Finally Yajima's design was more compact so even if it was the future why go back technology wise and make it more bulky. Also of it was the same universe as BF why is there no mention of Yajima Corp or Nils considering he made it possible for people to gunpla battle again after the ending of BFS1. Finally there were already people with portable terminals for Gunpla battle so of anything it would have gone and became more mobile instead of online especially after you could have your favorite characters pilot your custom suits as well as set the damage level to where it would only come apart not get cut, burn, blown up, etc.

EASE for me Origin, Mobile Suit Gundam, 0080, Zeta, Char’s Counterattack, Unicorn, 08th MS Team, and Thunderbolt, and Victory from the Universal century. As far as Alternate timelines definitely 00, Wing, and X. G Gundam is really good as well but has a different feel to the franchise than the others so I’d wait until you delve into the franchise for that one.
I have wanted to get into gundam for years, and never been brave enough to jump in. But this video has been incredibly coherent. Thank you. I can't wait to one day be a veteran and tell people about getting into it :)
Since I'm not really a hardcore fan of Gundam, I can relax with this video.
I will say this, though: I am always willing to watch any Gundam series(save for the ones aimed at kids) if they air on TV, put on Netflix/Amazon Prime or dubbed.
Build Fighters despite being aimed at kids is pretty good, and its available on yt on their offical website, The bloodhounds episode alone is probably one of the best fights in the whole franchise in terms of strategy and planning and its directed by the same guy who's doing MHA before he moved to that so if anything its a consistent high-quality show and the references doesn't detract the experience as my first time watching it was only after seeing seed and 00 and its still enjoyable, just more you been though the other timelines as well.
After the director left for MHA, GBFT and divers were kinda generic to lazy.
Hulu has Origins which isn't a bad place to start from what I heard. I don't know if I agree, but it's not the worst place to start.

This video together with the desire to play the super robot wars games with some knowledge of the featured series really helped me to get into gundam, and boy I´m glad it did! I´m enjoying it far more than I expected and I keep coming back to this video every now and them to make sense of what season/ova/movie to watch next! (And to compare my impressions of what I watched so far with your own) Thank you for such an useful and well done video!
Great video. I've always been interested to watch Gundam, but was intimidated by all of the different entries and didn't know where to start. This video has made it a lot clearer for me.

Fantastic video! 00 is my absolute favorite out of the whole series with Iron Blooded Orphans in a close second. Unicorn is good but the only thing that kind of ruined that one for me is the character Banagher Links. He's just too much of a emotional cry baby for me to see him as a real Gundum Meister. Have to agree with you on most everything else. Way to go Misty!!!!!

I agree with your personal list recommend. Wing, seed, 00, and iron blood are a high must for starters. G gundam is a simple pleasure i found to relax to. Side it's more of a fighting then the normal war version. So for those who are new. Go with either from the AU, then go with the original gundam
Update for those learning in 2020, Origin series, the prelude to 0079 showing how the war actually began and how the Zaku came to be, the main character: Char Aznable or his true name Casval Rem Deikun.

Honestly, the MSG Timeline was crazy confusing, but now I know how to watch each Gundam Series in cronilogical order, by both universes, Char's Counter Attack looks like a cool movie.

Thanks for the list homie! I'd argue most people joined at gundam wing and found seed to be more kiddish. I've only really liked orphan, but I'll give a couple a try that you mentioned such as unicorn, despite its name haha, along with thunderbolt.

Okay! But what is the show where there were chibi like gundam that were their own characters that would be the same size as the kids and talk to them? I remember this show from my childhood but I with the most extreme vagueness.

As sacrilegious as it may be, I always say people entering for the first time should start in the alternate time lines (if they like long series seed, if not wing. If they like Shonen type obviously g, but also g all the time because it's awesome!), and if enjoying those block out and scheduling how to tackle the uc time-line, but that uc is where it's at for the fullest of story. And in uc go for the movies for 79, while they leave off the subplots they help visually. And all the hype for 08th!!
Isn't GBFT part of the G Gundam universe? I remember in the final episode credits, the jingon hau (however it's spelled) school master was revealed to be Domon from G. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Wing and IBO have multiple prequels and sequels, just not in anime form, mostly light novels and Mangas.
Origin, being a prequel does not.
Gundam Unicorn (UC) mentioned that HARO was made by an Ace Pilot long ago.
That Ace Pilot was Athrun from Gundam Seed (AU) they are connected by..... Haro Pla Merchandise, not so alternate after all.

Replace war in the pocket with Stardust memories as it tells so much more in terms of timeline and post OYW Zeon politics and army wise and sums up the feeling of the Delez's fleet feeling towards Earth and Axis Zeon.
How does it make sense to put Thunderbolt after Unicorn if it's set in the same year as the original series?
Thunderbolt takes place at the same time as 0079, Hathaway's Flash takes place after Unicorn and isn't entirely new. It's just an adaptation, as were Unicorn and Thunderbolt.
I am oddly a newbie as well as a veteran. I was one of those people fortunate enough to have caught Gundam Wing back when it aired on Toonami in the late 90s, and I caught bits of Seed and G Gundam from the same source, but I wasn't as grabbed by it as I was by other "Boots on the Ground" Mecha series like Robotech (which I was raised with), Battletech, and Code Geass. It wasn't until I took a long look at the "Mekton Zeta" RPG that I found myself truly hooked...now I'm just a few episodes off finishing 0079 (I here a lot of complaints about "It's very 70's", but I guess a childhood of Speed Racer and Star Blazers has inoculated me against "70's Cheese Syndrome").
Imagine if all those AUs are part of UCs, that would be very beautiful story to see the human development and civilization
So as a heads up you did forget the a Branch in the Cosmic Ara Time line in the from of two six minute Shorts of Gundam Seed Astray, i say this but there relay worth mentioning except you did go out of you way to mention the spoof Gundam-san and the live action film so it seems like you wanted everything?

If you want to watch short one Tv show: 00 Turn A, or IBO
Handle full on Gundam: Try UC if you want to understand the Gundam Plot (Unicron explains it)
If you want Gundam but not Gundam plot (Not a war conflict) then try Build series, Fighters G Gundam (You need to trust me on G)
I myself would recommend 00, IBO, Unicron if you want to understand the plot of warfare, the Original Gundam Show if you want to go all the way on Gundam
great video but on that note, hathaway's flash is considered late as it begins in u.c 0105. Anything prior to the 0100's such as NT and Unicorn are considered early u.c. which is correct in your video.

Heero and All of his Friends only Exist in Gundam Wing since all AU Gundam Universe are Different. Most Gundams are Mostly Supposed to look like one another with a Different Unique Looks.

IMO art style from the 90s is the best.
Its not as complicated as the FATE series. Also with CCA Beltorchika's Children, Hathaway's Flash and one you might miss Gaia Gear.
