In Origin, before the opening battle, the Zeon officers are warned that if they lose, they'll be tried for war crimes so history is WRITTEN BY THE VICTORS. If you win, you're untouched and your crimes is pretty much swept under the rug. If someone tries to uncover the forbidden secrets, make sure the person is "unavailable".

And the cannon mode is a revision of a guncannon, a mobile suit that Amuro piloted. The fight scene between exia repair 3 and reborns is the same as char's counterattack.

In defense of the Destroy. The first time we saw it when it was an Absolute Unit. It was being piloted by Stella who was losing her mind and it basically ran wild. Then, down the line they need cannon fodder for the Destiny and Legand gundams. Most likely the pilots at that time were unknown pilots 7, 23, and 31 who were lucky to have a combined IQ of 6.
Seriously, Stella left a path of absolute destruction all across Europe in her Destroy before she was taken down. The others may be a joke, but the original was a nightmare.
@@VegetaLF7 it was still nightmare for ordinary pilot actually. But yeah for all crazy offensive and defensive weapon they have once named character engage them in melee, this huge gundam somehow got easily taken down.

@@yoshuasidharta4685 and it even became its weakness in the game, when it become mobile armor form, it's invulnerable against all long range attack and can only be melee'd.
Two reasons I can think of. The first is that When Shin learned that Stella was in the Destroy he started to hold not just himself back but the others as well since he wanted to try and "save" her, when in all honesty it would lead to her to becoming a test subject for ZAFT if captured or in the same situation or worse if the alliance got her.
The other reason I can think of is more likely they wanted to show how "powerful" the new gundams were and give Luna a bit more feats on her resume.
Also everyone that was not on Kira's side became a joke after Athrun defected from ZAFT... again.

Destroy is easily my favorite massive Gundam. That original one was just terrifying as it carved a path of ruin across Europe. The later units may have been nerfed all to hell, but that doesn't change how devastating the original was. Besides, it's a double reference in one unit: nodding to the Psycho Gundam in Mobile Suit mode and the Big Zam in Mobile Armor mode.
The natural pilots were just unable to do anything with it, especially when fighting against a team with winning experience fighting one of theirs that actually was well piloted.
@@MuhammadKharismawan That would make sense if not for the simple truth there would be room for massive computers to run AI assistance. The simple truth is they nerfed them because hey wanted to make the new gundams seem powerful. Heck even the first battle realistically the Freedom should have had overwhelming issues killing it simply because it would have armor that was so thick that only he heaviest beam weapons should have had a effect. But well plot contrivance.

@@spartanonxy it’s one way to deal with that kind of enemy since it ultimately uses the energy that was building up in the cannons to destroy the machine (if Stella had received the same blow to the other cannons then it wouldn’t have done the same level of damage). The same thing would’ve happened if it was either of the psycho gundams in that situation
From unstoppable juggernaut, to cannon fodder. Conservation of ninjutsu truly screwed over the Destroy gundam.
Turns out Steller was the best of the Extended. Makes sense, she had the best regular Gundam.
GSD riddled with issues during production. Had Destiny uses the Stardust Memories premise, it could've gone better. Better make the first half focusing on pursuing the stolen Gundams. Then second half dealing with LOGOS directly and making the Destroys the most hardest to kill. Then make another sequel where Kira re-emerges after a failed assassination attempt on Lacus making them living on the run. Destiny should've have been focus more on ZAFT and the Minerva.
I would have liked that much better. Shinn is an insufferable little shit, but maybe he could've been better if the show wasn't in such a hurry to bring Kira back.
That said, Kira is the best and even though GSD is largely awful, all the good parts involve him.
There is an old saying to this, "The bigger they are, the harder they fall." That applies to every Big MS including the Gundams.
Unless you count anything Kira Yamato pilots because of plot armor

Seed Kira was borderline infamous for getting his mechs trashed, notably Strike getting nuked point-blank by Aegis and Freedom getting tossed around by Creuset before narrowly winning by a kamikaze attack, with only the torso and left arm and leg intact.
Freedom's METEOR fell especially hard since Providence was using DRAGOONs to attack that huge backpack from all directions and easily tear it apart.
@@manat31790 Freedom did get trashed bad in SD, and its by Shin, it's not that Kira is that much better in SD, it's just Strike Freedom that is too tailored for Kira's style.
We all know the one thing that will give fans an "ooooh!?" in the upcoming movie is the moment Strike Freedom got hit.
And it look bad, SF has weak armor for all that mobility.
It even shows in Gundam games, SF has one of the lowest HP in all the 3000 cost MS, but as a trade it's also one of the most reactive to inputs.

What I don't understand is that Xi Gundam was classified as a 5th generation mobile suit. The ZZ is a 4th generation. So how was it that Nu and even unicorn were not considered next gen suits?

@@B-E-A-U-X a lot of military experts dont rate gens of machines by their dates but by certain tech advancements that usher in a new way of warfare (like going from biplanes to monoplanes then jets)
the Unicorn and Nu seemed to be specialist machines using old and known tech to simply use them for particular pilots and situations not full battle machines so their semi prototype status may be the reason they arent considered next gen machines
the Xi and ZZ both used tech that we see occasionally on new machines but arent seen (at least not on a large scale) on older ones
then again i could be wrong as i dont have solid proof of where the gens start and end in this universe (like does gen 1 start at the Zaku or its prototype? is the Gundam a next gen machine because of its beam weapons? what about the GM does it count as the first Gen 1 as it was mass produced)

Destroy Gundam is literally just a GBF made mishmash of Big Zam and Psycho Gundam and I love every aspect of it.
We refuse to believe those 5 mass produced versions exist since they appeared on the 2nd half of the series when everything went down the pooper.
That's going under the assumption that the series wasn't already in the pooper to begin with - not with model design, of course, but definitely with plot and character development (basically 0079 but with less development and more stupid people doing stupid s*** and getting away with it because the plot demands it).
The Destroy Gundam had to become a joke, you can't have Seed protagonists struggling or developing tactics after the mid season upgrade, their performance can only be affected by how angsty or sad they are.

@@serosen3950 The Freedom basically lets Kira bypass his main ethical dilemma by letting him shoot down almost everything in his path without killing the pilots. I did state AFTER the mid season upgrade.

For real though, you can at least guestimate the Apsalus III thanks to it's Zaku II noggin. If we're doing MAs though, Neue Ziel is a biggun and I feel that Neo Zeong is cheating with the fuel cans.
Just imagine if the GP project hadn't been shut down and the EFSF continued developing and producing units like the GP03. It would have changed the course of history. A single unit had the fire power to take down an entire enemy flotilla, and it could be operated by a SINGLE PERSON.

It wasnt. Side by side it towers over the 00. When fighting the 00 it probably didnt seem as tall because of how wide the 00 was.
@@BlueAmerican26 yeah it does seem like Reborns is standard size since ya know it's fighting against a Wide Shoulder Gundam like 00R. That and most of the Reborn's screen time where fights, so maybe it'll be difficult for the animators to maintain 100% accurate scale if it was in a scene filled with many movements
I have both 00 Raiser and Reborns Gundam in the HG 1/144 scale, and I can confirm that the Reborns Gundam is taller because of its high heels design.

The only reason the Heavens Sword Gundam's head was so big was it made the beak of the flight mode. Although they could have made it a backpack attachment that hooks to the head, like the seekers from Transformers

I also loved the destroy gundam even though it has no melee weapons.
Those extended pilots are more of a problem than a solution in both seed and seed destiny. Imagine if the destroy was stolen by the coordinators.
The bio CPUs aka 3 Druggies in SEED gave Kira and Athrun very little room to breath when they're stable. It reminds me of Universal Soldier where heat can disable a UniSol if fighting without cooling down for too long, especially in hot weather. Take the concept of Universal Soldier except for the reanimating the corpse part and put it into the Extendeds in GSD. The strongest Coordinators would have a hard time against them. One stable Extended in a Destroy would be able to wipe out one carrier battle group with ease.
Frankly, just putting regular pilots in them would have gotten better value from the machines.
I remember when the Destroy gundam showed up in Seed. I thought I was near the end of the series since it looked like a final boss sort of enemy. But if memory serves I think that's only like half way through

Stella’s death, partially caused by Kira leads to Shinn ‘killing’ Kira only for the revival and the creation of Strike Freedom
Before Kira’s return though we get those mass produced ones that get practically curbstomped like a bunch of punks
Where as the first was able to handle both Freedom and Impulse Gundam at the same time
I see the Destroy as GSD production in a nutshell. It could've deal damage to the Freedom, making Kira crashed and this left Shinn to deal with Stella himself. It could've develop his character further.

As the Devil Colony's tentacles were essentially city sized, if you count the "colony form" of this unit it is definitely the largest. ESPECIALLY if you include the tentacles, which bring its total "height" to larger than that of the planet's atmosphere itself.
Even before the colony stuff though, it did also do that thing where it was a bunch of tentacles with Gundam heads on them.

meanwhile that cancelled Hollywood Gundam live-action movie project during the 80's has a redesigned RX-78-2 that is freaking 50 meters tall.

Props to using the Penelope theme for its placement, probably the best OST to come from Hathaway's Flash
Of this list the Psycho gundam has to be my favorite, though the MKII is clearly a step up in every way the MKI looked much better imo. I would have loved to have seen a "mass production" version that did away with the transformation and got a psycho sized beam sword, also put some proper armor on the backs of its legs... All in all it's exactly what I want out of a giant gundam though "I want a walking battle ship complete with the firepower and armor to back it up."

@@zachelkins1229 that was probably both due to the pilots of the other destroys being bad and because the zaft pilots had the knowledge from when shin fought the original destroy (plus they had 3 usable gundams instead of just the impulse)

The Destroy is such an amazing design and sadly we never got, same as the Guaiz and Strike Dagger, would really love to see kits of these in the size of normal 1/100 or 1/144 kits.

With the recent Seed era revisiting from Bandai, my hopes of a 1/100 hg Destroy Gundam have become much higher. If the Nightgale can get one, so can the Destroy.

@@MaddJakd how? For a Destroy it would have to be at least the size of Psyco Gundam, which was done in 1/144, which is the precedent I’m basing my assumption on. A 1/100 would be like the size of a Mega Size 1/48 scale kit or bigger and be crazy expensive, low detail, and kind of a brick.
@@Astronopolis maybe. More as it's cool but definitely falls into the reaml of Bandai's definition of "obscure" enought that I don't see them going all in on the proper HG tech for it.

4-I'm not particularly fond of the Hathaway's flash suits to be honest. This one lookes like it's stuck halfway though a transformation.

Great video, but I would like to give my two cents on why the Destroy performed so badly after Stella's.
You see, when they first deployed the Destroy, the lab was insistent on using Stella, as she had the best compatibility with the proposed specs given by Acteon Industries(on paper, at least). This whole deal with compatibility is also why Sting, Auel, and Stella, despite there being still a sizable amount of other Extendeds, Bio CPUs, Combat Coordinators, and Socius clones(emotionless clones of Gud Vair, except for Finis Socius, who got the psychopathic side of Gud Vair), why the three of them were specifically chosen to steal, and subsequently became the designated pilots, of the Chos, Abyss, and Gaia respectively(that, and their teamwork scores). In fact, ever notice how they started doing badly when they lost one member of the Trio? Auel did badly in his last fight with the Impulse, despite routinely being able to fend him off before. Sting got taken out in both Berlin and Heaven's base, both after Auel's(because he had subconsciously depended Auel giving him covering fire, even after his memories got wiped) and Stella's(because he was more of a team player being effectively forced into a solo role) deaths.
For the other Destroys at Heaven's Base, I believe that, excluding Sting, they basically just threw whatever Artillery-oriented Bio CPUs(the likes of Orga, Shani, and Clotho, pilots of the Calamity, Forbidden, and Raider respectively) into the other five Destroys that were stationed at that base after Acteon completed them, and they subsequently performed badly because the machines lasted longer than their drugs did(remember what happen to Clotho by the end?). By the time they attacked the Moon Base, that resource had dried up from Blue Cosmos/LOGOS basically throwing them out like expendable troops throughout the war(some died, some defected), and they probably resorted to using regular human pilots for the four in space.
Impressive analysis, my friend.
This is why I hope we get a gundam anime set between Hathaway and Victory (a more clear version of Crossbone/F91 like they are doing with "Hathaway"), maybe explore more of the UC downsizing era (love the V2 gundam for its size vs power)
The federation was in massive debt in the uc 100s due to all expermental mobile suits the bought from Anaheim during the grips war and 3 neo Zeon wars they wasted alot of money on non mass produced machines something they were already trying to fix around the time of CCA and why they created SNRI as they didn't want to deal with Anaheim and there double dealing any more. This did nothing in the long run which is why they had to relay on the league millitar in Victory as they no longer had the money to fund a modern standing military mobile suit force and this economic instability lead to their collapse in crossbone Dust.
TLDR The reason for smaller machines is they entered a masive economic recession for wasting so much money on experimental chonkers
Honestly we need more series in the questioning the earth federation service that we first properly saw in zeta and continued in unicorn and now Hathaway, potentially something in the style of stardust memory that explores why there are jegan ground types terrorising earthnoids with manned crotch mounted anti personel turrets

Just send her into the map, half the enemys wont hit, the other half gets positron reflected. Murders most of em in counters too. While her theme song memes along. The unit has tools vs any and all Targets.

The thing with the Destroy Gundam is if they kept the positron reflector shield that's it's equipped with a secret then ZAFT would have an even harder time trying to take the unit down as they have no clue that the thing is equipped with the reflector shield so all they're beam weaponry are useless and due to it's vast arsenals every missile fired at it well just get shot down while machine gun won't do a thing as it's probably built to make physical weaponry useless.

For destroy gundam, it was great unit for anti-army/anti-fleet mobile suit. It has many good weapon and defense system. One of this gundam downside however if enemy mobile suit manage to engage in melee combat or using weaponry that capable breach destroy defense system. Kira Yamato (and later shin asuka and his friends) manage to damage and take down destroy by melee combat.
Hey Kakarot, I don't think it's been done before but can you maybe put together a background and history of all the prototype Astrays, Gold, Red, Blue, Green & Purple (Noir?) frames, where they were built and how they got into hands of their pilots ?

Also the other suits aren't really suits more like mobile armors that tend to be slow because they are so huge.
Seeing the Deep Striker during your opening disclaimer proves if it included novels and manga, you could fill up over half the list with "SENTINEL" Mobile Suits like Ex-S, Deep Striker, the FAZZ, and the Gundam MkV.

I had two measuring sticks here. One was the RX-78-2 Gundam at 18 meters, the other being Showa Godzilla at 50 meters. A 1/144 Psycho Gundam would be about the right size to fight larger vinyl Godzilla figures if that particular kaiju uses the Showa era's scaling.
Now that would be a fun crossover battle. Psycho gundam vs mecha godzilla.

Question: Do beam weapons have recoil? (More or less than solid ammo?) Why Zeon made and deployed Gelgoog Marine Types if they were forced out of earth and with limited time and resources?
I don't think beams do have recoil, or if they do they don't react as much as firing a projectile cannon.
@@VegetaLF7 I believe beam weapons do have recoil, but it's not really apparent with standard beam weapons. To name a few examples, Unicorn's beam magnum is said to be able to rip off an arm of an average mobile suit, Wing Zero's Twin Buster rifle can mess up its frame with 3 shots if the suit's armor integrity is compromised, and recoil from Gundam X's Satellite Cannon can produce enough thrust to let it outrun explosions with another MS holding on to it.
@@accelriderx2931 These do appear to be the exceptions rather than the rules. Particularly the Twin Buster Rifle and Satellite Cannon. Neither of those are normal beam rifles, it makes sense that they'd have insane kickback to them. But a basic beam rifle that your average Mobile Suit carries either doesn't have recoil or it's so negligible that it isn't that apparent.

I respect your list, but I'm disappointed you forgot the BIGGEST animated Gundam.... the Masive Perfect Grade Exia Gundam from Build Fighters (with the gigantic Setsuna piloting it!). They actually do have published official height numbers for Build Fighter units. I know this list is "Gundams only", but also honorable mention to the "Jumbo Grade Zaku" and Tryon-3

I know a lot of people don't like the Hathaway era gundam designs but I just love the bulky look and all the moving parts. The Penelope especially looks some sort of dragon-esque monster in flight mode
