Dude thanks for the video/s on this.
Was given the quad by someone who only had it a few months, he had issues with it which is why he gave it to me as i have a goat farm and would be very useful in taking some miles off my legs.
Got an almost identical 167FMM engine, exactly the same starting issue as you showed in your first video stalling on compression stroke, i removed the spark plug wire and she turns over fine with no slowing on compression, im a 30 year mechanic so that tells me timing is advanced...... did exactly what you did in your first video, i removed my flywheel just to check woodruff key and all perfect, had me stumped, timing is advanced! but everything looking good and line up just like you had.
i gave up this very afternoon until i had some spare time to check the crank bearings etc........... will be checking out this wiring....... can you remember on what circuit was the problem\was connected wrong.
    Glad to see you running

What I do remember is that there are two connections that are the same. It's easy to make a mistake and connect the wrong ones. If you have problems starting and or backfiring then swap them around. I hope that helps cheers.

In the same boat, problem is my wiring doesn't look to be wrong at all, all the wire colors match up correctly so I'm still stuck with the compression stroke issue.

      @@TEKNOFIED thanks for the reply.
I didnt make a mistake the wiring is wrong from factory so i found out, blue and green wires from stator need to be swapped at the socket, so where green goes to green it needs to be changed to green to blue on both those wires....... mine fired right up and runs sweet now.

@@sheldor2303 the wires from the stator are wrong, blue and a green wire.
at the socket where it connects to the loom pull out the green and blue wires on one side of the socket and swap then over.......... it should now be blue to green wire and green to blue wire.
they basically got the colours wrong from factory...... mine now starts instantly and runs great.
let me know if it fixes it for you!

I have an almost identical quad like yours, although the bloke I bought it from said it is a 250cc, I checked the lettering near the foot shift lever and it states 163mm. Looking at the video mine is like yours, even same shockers although I put new shockers on mine, also put 22'' rims tires on the rear and 19'' on the front, and changed the front sprocket to 11 T so it takes off way better. I fitted a chain roller guide as well. It had a PZ30 carb on it but fitted a flat side carb, dirt cheap from China. Also converted the clutch to hydraulic, and fitting hydraulic masters on the front drum as well. I changed the muffler and sounds way better now. I got a digital temp/volt meter from China for it and it was running way to hot, checked the thermo fan and that was dead, so new one is coming soon, and also wiring that to a separate switch so I turn it on or off when the ignition key is on. I hope the new thermo fan keeps it cooler, if not can you tell me what radiator you changed to? When it is all back together the last thing to do is to warp it in black 4d carbon fiber. I got a new seat for it, the list goes on LOL. I bought mine as there is a fishing spot down the coast here in eastern Victoria, about 10k's along the beach, my knees are no good anymore so the quad will get me there, I have a 4x4 but would not risk getting stuck on that beach as it is very remote, hence the fishing is really good.

The radiator I am using is an old heater core from a 2004 Magna. I have not had any time to play on it for over a year but plan on working on it and having a little fun again. I need to redo the head gasket. starts but no power to ride it.

Hi,did you have a spark when you fced issues with engine starting?
Thank you very much for giving us advices and tips with this engine. I have almost similar engine 167mm.

Yes I did. The Wiring was connected wring by the old owner. as a result the timing was not correct.

How does the automatic fan wire up. I had to get a new harness for mine and I can't figure out how the fan and temp sensor are supposed to be wired in. None of the diagrams online have the fan and sensor on them

I wired the fan my own way with a relay directly to the key ignition so the fan is always on. I also got an aftermarket temp gauge and wired it my own way to the temp sensor. On mine, the temp sensor is not a switching sensor so you don't wire the fan to the temp sensor.

Hey, can you tell me what the spark plug gap is supposed to be on this engine (163ML). I cant find anything online.
    Thanks

A standard gap is what I use. 1.5mm to 1.7mm or .050" to .065" anything in that range is perfectly fine. If you don't have filler gauges then use a hacksaw blade at 1.5mm.
