Why would you not buy this knife after this? It was pressed into the use of a chisel/hammer and held up well. It’s a knife afterall, you make the edge any thicker and it would barely cut anything. You might as well just carry a cold chisel around

@@shinedown394 well it could be just this knife but it appears it wasn't heat treated properly, to me this is what makes or breaks the knife, "pun intended "for me. I mean if there's a bad heat treat on the blade alot of times you can't even sharpen the blade at least to a reasonable degree and never mind if it'll hold an edge, those are two of the most important things on a knife besides durability ! In survival it's what I need, the blade to be strong to take the most maximum abuse as possible before it breaks. In mean in most cases if the break is bad you still couldn't use it for cutting or chopping utility and shelter making tasks it is designed for so yeah I don't think so. I have seen the Glock knife take waaaaay more than this blade did and it doesn't even have near as much of the heft of this knife why??....it's in the heat treatment of the knife. Go see for your self Nas test the Glock knife just search knife tests Glock knife.

Got many different TRC models and would love that as well - or perhaps not! I just love the brand to much to see them break. Andrius Tricius designs are so great and the finish on the knives superb. They're basically flawless - for the eye at least.
I own 2 Apocalypses. The old smaller model in M390 and the new larger one in Elmax. The latter one is my favourite fixed knife together with the TRC Mille Cuori (or M1 as it was called when I bought it - Vanadis 4E steel).
I haven't stabbed cars or hit rocks with mines yet. Hopefully I never have to do that! :P Batoning firewood is the hardest I've put them to so far.

Hey Joe I'm curious have you had a chance to test Shrade hollow handle one piece construction knife machined out of a solid billett of 1070 Carbon steel. Its a direct clone of Chris Reeves Project 1, except the original was made from A2 tool steel, the Shrade version is 1070 steel. I'm curious how it would perform since its exactly the same steel as Operator 7 but its uniformly heat treated at 57rc i believe. I feel like the Operator could have been one tough knife if the didn't use a differently heat treatment for edge vs spine. For instance you saw how tough the handle was, taking multiple gun shots and not breaking. Had they increased the hardness just a bit, so the blade flexed more but did not bend it would have worked better.

It also depends upon how they made that fuller. A proper fuller is pressed in when the metal is hot. It causes the metal to build up on either side like a railroad track. It actually strengthens the blade when done properly. A CNC cut, or metal mill out is not a proper fuller in my opinion. It just looks like one. It is a stress point, as all it did was make that area thinner and weaker.

I actually bought this knife thinking it was a tank however I see it has many flaws. My theory is the differential heat treat that works well on some of their 1095 blades failed in this case. The softer steel deformed too much at the spine and the spreading of the softer metal created enough stress in the harder metal to crack it. In any case, I think I will stick with my ESEE Junglas II. Thanks for the eye opener.

You guys got it wrong the tops knife claims that they differential heat treat the knives made of 1095 steel, that is this knife. The edge is behaving very much to what I expect because it is hard and tough, but the back of the blade is much softer to obsorb the shock but it is soft and you can see it really is.
