This is the madness I knew I always needed. But your work is not yet done, Daniel. In order to truly Ascent to Goblin Emperor you must do a tier list of every book, game, movie, tv show and music album you have ever experience since starting your channel.
In a similar vein to this video, I’d love to see you do a video dedicated to how your tastes have changed since starting this channel, why certain books or series don’t do it for you anymore, and why some you may once have disliked have risen in your estimation.
Just started reading the Malazan books yesterday. Also received my copy of The Great Dune Trilogy and the first trilogy of The Expanse so have plenty of cool stuff to delve into.
Im sad you didn't continue with Kingdom because i nearly did the same thing, i didnt love the start and nearly quit it but ill reiterate what a buddy said to me to keep me going as best as i can recall, "Once Shin becomes a 100-Man commander, you will see the absolute peak of massive military warfare in any medium. not just manga, but everything. the strategies, the characters, the action, hell the politics are so good it made me like fucking politics. it gets so good, i know you will like it" tried my best to remember, he said something close to that. Hope you or anyone else gives it another chance, cuz its worth it. my personal number reviews by major arcs by memory would be: 5, 6.5, 9.5, 10, 9.5, 9, 9, 9.5, 9, 8. so yeah, not a great start but my GOD does it get better.
Please do watch the video it's genuinely great and provides the actual reasons for the placements but it's been 6 months so hopefully this is ok. Ah yes my TBR for the foreseeable future. Also ik you haven't done manga content in a while but it would be great for you to cover Frieren, dungeon meshi and witch hat atelier. I think you'll quite like these 3 series
Thank you so much for this. AND I hate you for this too - I added way too many books to my TBR. Also, you haven't read the Ender Game series by Orson Scott Card? Give them a try! Also, you forgot to rank the Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy series, because there is just no way that you have NOT read them!
I had doubts for a little bit, because of the lack of content around Berserk, but at 54:27 I witnessed this man talk about in depth and with passion, excitement and love for how amazing a character was written. It was the exact same feeling I had. It is the exact same feeling I have about the story. From one Daniel to another, I absolutely love Berserk and I thank you deeply for reviewing it.
I'd love to get this list in text form. I've been looking for some inspiration for new reads recently and to have the S and A tier as a reference would be a great help!
Loved this, Its crazy seeing all those books. I'm admittedly a little sad that forgotten realms dark elf trilogy didn't make the list, but its given how many books you went through and how long ago those were I can't really feel bad.
If you like Legends & Lattes, you will love Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. It has a little more action than L&L, but it's rather sparing in that department. It's also a fantastic story to read/watch if you need some fantasy that will let you feel and heal. You'll also notice the abundant Tolkien vibes which are a delight. As an aside, the manga is wonderful and so is the anime, arguably the best adaptation of a manga in a very, very long time. So you can't go wrong with either.
I have ADHD, so watching a 3 hour movie is very tough, especially in the comfort of my home. When I see a 3 hour Daniel Greene tier list, I wear my best tuxedo and stay fully engaged.
Loved this! You mentioned the re-edit of Breach of Peace - are there any more updates on that? And did I dream that it will be an "omnibus" version with Rebel's Creed?
What a behemoth, but much appreciated, undertaking! I recently have been trying to get back to reading, so I honestly find this super helpful! This is a mad idea/suggestion, is there a world where you would go back and order each tier? Maybe as separate videos or it could be one giant chungus. Im really curious to see what you hold in high regards, especially as I'm playing catch up with all the new material out there. Thanks again for such a good watch!
Hard to say considering he gave both Peace Talks and Battle Grounds above average ratings in his initial review. Far higher than I would have given them.
I honestly liked them. But when you look at them as a single book not two stand alone. Because they aren't really stand alone. In that respect they fail, but on a whole I think they are still really good.
@@nolangarrett3440 I’ve only read through both of them once, so I don’t have the most informed opinion, but I just didn’t feel any emotional weight from the story. It’s the same way I felt reading Fool Moon or Blood Rite. Just getting through the story to get through it.
Ranking Kingdom by the first arc is like ranking wheel of time by a third of the first volume bro (i've dropped it and now it's easily my favorite book series of all time far above Berserk and others big mangas names)
I actually read Kindred as required reading in High School, and fell in love with Octavia Butler (I think the exact same class that we read The Great Gatsby coincidentally), and I really appreciate my high school for teaching it in 10th grade.
He has a lot better memory than I do because I would be having to look up what happens in most books I've head and some I would have forgotten I read. Guess that's what I get for listening to books at work so just binge listening to stuff.
Legends and Lattes has an UNFORGIVABLE error. One of the pictures at the beginning of the chapters shows a ball of yarn with knitting needles for a character who is crocheting!!! FIX IT!!!
“The Road is the hardest book to get through” In 2007, when my reading slump began in earnest, I read this and Slaughterhouse-five in about 3 days per book. Am I fucking broken??
As someone who is fully caught up with Kingdom, I agree with your placement, I really enjoy it, but I have no clue why people herald it as being alongside vagabond, berserk and Vinland saga
I feel that this is a crime that there is no Anne McCaffrey, for so many reasons. I'd recommend the Harper Hall Trilogy aka Dragonsinger series. I'd then recommend the Dragon Riders triology up to the white dragon, and then Moretta, which I think is the ultimate Novel in the series and any thing else McCaffrey has written. Why this order? Mostly because that's how I was introduced. While the Dragon Riders probably SHOULD be read before the harper hall trilogy, there was a charm to me in being as lost as Menoly was to the events of a Weyr and then revisiting the Harper Hall series after I'd read everything and going "OOOHHHH!!!! NOW I GET IT!!!" Also, the Harper series is short and sweet. I can usually down each book in just a few hours. Also... it's science fiction, and if you want argue how dragons aren't science fiction, then I recommend Dragonsdawn after the others are read. Then you can move on to the Dolphins of pern which concludes the master harper series. There are other books and stories, but for me... this is the way. I'd avoid the son's writing unless you really need more pern. McCaffrey is an INCREDIBLE emotional writer, writing about inclusivity before I truly saw a lot of it in books. You see this with the Dragonriders specifically. Seriously, you should read her. It's a bloody shame that she's becoming lost when I think she is one of the greats. Warning, you may tear up on occasion. PARTICULARLY Moreta's Ride.

This was a *very* long watch but I'm glad I made the journey because it helped me confirm we have the exact same taste about the Abercrombie, King, and Sanderson books. Definitely going to give your other S ranks some serious consideration now.
Best wishes with what you choose to read. I'm currently reading the Count of Monte Cristo. It is excellent but I might be some time. Good luck. I hope you get some great stories.
I'd love to see you review more Le Guin! Wizard of Earthsea is great, but her Hainish novels are fantastic. The stand out ones to me are Left Hand of Darkness and The Dispossessed. Some really great topics of gender, social politics, linguistics, the individual's place in making changes, etc. And I'll tack on a request for you to read and review Peter S. Beagle's The Last Unicorn. An amazing classic that's a really quick and easy read.

Just watch your video on why medieval army small. Great job lads
me shouting at the computer, I KNOW Daniel, its already on my TBR!!!
Exactly
Yep
This
i laughed out loud when i saw the title - the absolute mad lad

Same lmfao
The absolute madlad, he never misses!

Daniel is really trying to hit that 10 minute mark
Barely made it to 10

Finish the last 3 hours of my audiobook? Nah. Watch Daniel rank every book he’s ever reviewed? Hell yeah.
Same 🤦♀️
the end is always the best/worst right? like i want to see what happens but i don't want it to end!
tbh if that's the case the audiobook probably sucks

This is the madness I knew I always needed.
But your work is not yet done, Daniel.
In order to truly Ascent to Goblin Emperor you must do a tier list of every book, game, movie, tv show and music album you have ever experience since starting your channel.
What about theatre, opera and comedy?
That is an INSANE tier list video concept.
I love it 🥰
I'd love a written out list of your S and A tier books! Would be great to have to know what gems have gone under the radar.
Someone will do it in the comments section with timestamps because they are brave and wonderful and kind.
@@zachrowe6271 thats what I'm hopping for
@@zachrowe6271my utmost gratitude and appreciation to this person!
Draconicscribe timestamped and put the rankings on everything, it's one of the top comments at this point.
Ok, now rank all the books you haven't read.
In a similar vein to this video, I’d love to see you do a video dedicated to how your tastes have changed since starting this channel, why certain books or series don’t do it for you anymore, and why some you may once have disliked have risen in your estimation.
Wooooo!! Was just thinking yesterday I wanted more tier list content from Daniel, and then this happens!
I love Daniel reminiscing. it makes me feel better cause i do the same thing, that "oh! I loved this one :)
Just started reading the Malazan books yesterday. Also received my copy of The Great Dune Trilogy and the first trilogy of The Expanse so have plenty of cool stuff to delve into.
Perdido Street Station getting the respect it deserves 🤩
Thanks for the short little shout-out to me & my book, Daniel!!!
Look, you’re a mad goblin for this. I love you for it, but you’re a mad goblin.
Still waiting for King-killer Chronichle's placement on your list. Surely don't hope I'll have to wait for too long.

Ah yes my TBR for the foreseeable future.
Also ik you haven't done manga content in a while but it would be great for you to cover Frieren, dungeon meshi and witch hat atelier. I think you'll quite like these 3 series
2nd on Witch Hat Atelier!
Berserk and Earthsea being in the same tier makes me so happy.
Really loved the passionate reviewing and ideas coming from Daniel
I thought at first that video is called "every book I've ever READ" and didn't believe that daniel would rank that many books.
we would be here all week for that video 🤣
I think Monster is S tier but I can understand your critique
My road to work is entirely flooded out in this storm so thanks for the entertainment while I wait for the water to recede lool
Hope you enjoyed it!
Can you share this S and A tier list? I have audible credits that need spending. If not then I'll see what a screenshot and zoom can do to help me
I don't suppose there's a written tier list... or title + timestamp overview?
Can't find Hyperion on the list
It is in S
3 hours of sweet Daniel Green content. My goblin heart just fluttered.
You just casually throwing shade at Rothfuss and the king killer Chronicles every now and then and not ranking it at all in the end is hilarious
Wait where'd he throw shade? I think I missed it.
@@judeconnor-macintyre9874 He kept saying he needed more time to think about it then never actually finished ranking it.
Lord of the Rings literally being the S tier is so fitting
I have ADHD, so watching a 3 hour movie is very tough, especially in the comfort of my home.
When I see a 3 hour Daniel Greene tier list, I wear my best tuxedo and stay fully engaged.
Loved this! You mentioned the re-edit of Breach of Peace - are there any more updates on that? And did I dream that it will be an "omnibus" version with Rebel's Creed?
My Goodreads TBR is eating good tonight
What a behemoth, but much appreciated, undertaking! I recently have been trying to get back to reading, so I honestly find this super helpful!
This is a mad idea/suggestion, is there a world where you would go back and order each tier? Maybe as separate videos or it could be one giant chungus. Im really curious to see what you hold in high regards, especially as I'm playing catch up with all the new material out there.
Thanks again for such a good watch!
I'm mostly just wanting to know what cracks Daniel sees in the Dresden Files.
This video made me realize that I have been following this channel for 4 or 5 years! Thanks, Daniel!
This looks like great entertainment for a lazy evening. Thank you! :)
This is how you lose the time war may be my single biggest disagreement with you. I absolutely hated every minute I spent getting through that one.
Now how do we get Daniel on Fire Punch or Dorohedoro so he sees how insane a manga could be
Ranking Kingdom by the first arc is like ranking wheel of time by a third of the first volume bro
(i've dropped it and now it's easily my favorite book series of all time far above Berserk and others big mangas names)
Bro rocked it. Also he's read more books as a booktuber than I've probably read in 30 years of being able to read.
You did monster so dirty
It's amazing to me how many of our favorite books match up 😁
How is mistborn secret history not important in the grand scheme of things? It revealed pretty important things about a certain character.
Legends and Lattes has an UNFORGIVABLE error. One of the pictures at the beginning of the chapters shows a ball of yarn with knitting needles for a character who is crocheting!!!
FIX IT!!!
This is exactly the sort of ambitious/unhinged content I expect from the Goblin
You should make video of a tier list of all your tier list videos.
“The Road is the hardest book to get through”
In 2007, when my reading slump began in earnest, I read this and Slaughterhouse-five in about 3 days per book.
Am I fucking broken??
This is phenomenal! I don't agree with all of your opinions, but you have introduced me to some good books over the years, and this is simply awesome.
I saw this video and instantly got so hyped lol thank you for this content!!! GOBLIN KING
Hey idk if I missed it or you forgot to rank it, but where do you rank Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood?
As someone who is fully caught up with Kingdom, I agree with your placement, I really enjoy it, but I have no clue why people herald it as being alongside vagabond, berserk and Vinland saga
I do not agree that the powder mage trilogy was "well thought out". I enjoyed it, but he was making it up as he went.
Was Oathbringer mentioned? Couldn't find his ranking.
It wasnt.
I'm just really proud on this community that we were able to bully you into giving One Piece and Berserk a shot.
I appreciate what you did with Kingkiller Chronicles - surprised you didn’t turn and wink the second time you mentioned it xD and delayed the review
This might provoke a singularity in which the universe implodes

Big hype for the goblin horde
I'd love to see you review more Le Guin! Wizard of Earthsea is great, but her Hainish novels are fantastic. The stand out ones to me are Left Hand of Darkness and The Dispossessed. Some really great topics of gender, social politics, linguistics, the individual's place in making changes, etc. And I'll tack on a request for you to read and review Peter S. Beagle's The Last Unicorn. An amazing classic that's a really quick and easy read.
