  • Moving Day! Or rather, days…weeks…months? 😬 I’m getting there, slowly but surely. I documented the main moving push I did over a weekend about a month ago. Speed packing is the new speed cleaning. If only my arms could move that fast in real time! I hope you enjoy the video. Thanks for watching ☺

I was married to an oil baron millionaire here in Houston. I found out he was sleeping with the nanny, kept that info to myself, and enrolled in a graduate program that same month.
We finally divorced last year, our son just graduated from high school, and I finished my PhD two years ago. I don't have a dime in student debt because I played the long game.
You are not alone. I love you.

I have to admit that I was very sad hearing about the split with you and Don. I always felt the chemistry and warmth between you during the vlogs and would never ever have thought that it was even possible. But then again we only get to see a few minutes of your day. I’ve always felt that you Jen are so sweet, and that there is a calmness in your personality and even a sense of spirituality in you and that I loved you because of it. I pray that you find love again because you deserve it so much and much happiness in your new home. I’m going to miss your old house as I really admired it and loved the way you decorated and took care of it.
Good luck with it all! Sending you virtual hugs!

But its amazing the determination, the power, the strength us single mommas get. That was YEARS ago for me. Im so thankful for my rainbow at the end of that chapter in my journey.

To crack on seems to be an old English term, I found these. Crack a whip to get cattle or horses (pulling a carriage) to move. There is also the suggestion that sailors once used the term to describe raising a sail. I found no mention of what you refer to. People just seem to be overreacting to everything nowadays. The World has gone mad! ANYWAYS! You deserve a medal for what you have done, I am sad you had to do it alone but probably for the best, like you say a lot emotionally to deal with too. "Get Cracking" has it's origins in England : get cracking to get busy; get going. {This phr. came into U.S. speech through contact with British armed forces during WWII.} Lighter's first citation for the phrase is from Eric Partridge, Dictionary of Slang and Unconventional English (1936), as "Get cracking, begin work."

Trust me I’m not trying to be rude but his money bought her and the kids a close to 1 million dollar home plus renovations and I’m sure he is paying for the taxes and upkeep for a large home that probably isn’t needed. Obviously there is money she had movers for the furniture so why not have them do it all I’m not getting it. I could see doing the things you need fur her and the kids but the books and such she didn’t need to do that if that was her choice that was her decision. Please you don’t know the situation I’m sure Don is taking very good care of her and the kids and will be taking care of her for rest of her life so don’t bash him you don’t know the entire situation.

The phrase "get cracking" comes from UK English. It entered American English in the early 1900's when American troops came into contact with UK troops during the World Wars. The origin is very unclear, but the most likely is "the sound of bullwhips bring cattle into order for transportation or migration", which is tenuous on its own. Totally up to you about whether or not you want to use it (and seriously good on you for not wanting to use phrases associated with slavery even in the smallest amount), but this term is so far removed from slavery, it seems like it'd be making a mountain out of a mole hill.

So, you can continue to get crackin' guilt free :) Amazing job with the move girl!

Hi Jen I’ve been waiting for your vlog and am so excited to watch it! Just a friendly tip - we have moved from calling it a “master” bedroom to “primary” or “principal” or “owners” bedroom here in Canada. 😘👍🏼 I know you, like many of us, are being diligent in watching for and questioning phrases and words we’ve used for so long that are rooted in slavery. It’s difficult to catch everything. I know! ❤️❤️❤️
Edited: I just saw your note about “cracking” and I’d never thought of that one! Thank you for that. We can all learn from each other and hopefully get there.

    • @TravelingNana

Get cracking has nothing to do with slavery. In my opinion we are overcompensating with our language and this is condescending to others. Just being kind to all is all we need to do.

Good thing I (well used to) go to the gym a lot and lift weights because muscles and strength are definitely needed when we stubborn and independents try to lift things on our own. I remember one time I was donating off a huge piece of furniture and the guy at drop off was trying to find someone to help him unload it. I told him ohh I will carry it with you, I loaded it into my car all alone. He gave me a crazy look and look unconvinced but I lifted it with ease and carried in in with him.

Demonstrating that kind of re-thinking is so helpful to others. Thank you so much for continuing to be thoughtful about this issue beyond the hype a few weeks ago. (And for the folks arguing the phrase originated before slavery in America: impact > intent. Even if just a few Black folks I'm listening to have expressed discomfort with the term, it feels like a very low bar to just get rid of such a minor thing in my vocabulary rather than risk making others around me feel unsafe because I feel lazy or entitled about using that phrase 🙄 Have a little compassion!)

You are amazing! When you get to the new house for tonite - first make up the bed and then when the last load is out of the van, take a nice bath/shower, do your skin care, soak your hands and feet, condition your hair, even paint your toes! Reward your body for the magnificent job you have done so far, have a cup of tea and sit with it and collect your thoughts. You are so organized, you are so lucky to be a person that has so many bins, etc. so that you didn’t overpack boxes and hurt yourself. Accept help from your parents (if you’re comfortable with them going out, etc.), maybe just to have a break at lunch with them. They love you and the emotional support always helps.
