I’ve got just the mufflers off mine and it was the best decision I’ve ever made for my daily. I ended up running the pipes out the sides of the car right in front of my rear tires and added chrome tips to complete the look
I deleted my mufflers (all 4 converters are still in use) 9 years ago and installed a 2 1/4" mid-pipe with a Magnaflow X-pipe. And you're right, it works and we've known about it and been doing it for a long time. Removing the mufflers and factory H-pipe also takes a good 70+ pounds of unsprung weight off of the car
I'll keep my cats and mufflers... I prefer quiet operation over ~20hp with a loss of low end torque. I actually like that I can drive fairly respectfully and spirited without exceeding 3000rpm
These things are rated at 297 lb/ft of torque (which I doubt they do), we're talking a loss of 1 or 2 lb/ft or torque on the low end lol. honestly nothing to lose sleep over. But if you like a quiet ride, there's nothing wrong with that.
Hi my friend. Thanx for your crown vic videos. I have an 03 p71 with an 06 engine. I think about selling it strictly because of insurance savings. When I watch your videos that idea goes away. Thanx.
Damn, I'ma start playing this through my boxed 12 inch in rhythm with the sound of my own delete grand marquis, which sounds cool af as it is but with that bass, lol, it's surreal, like a live movie or something. I think that's what I'll do is record my delete and play it in sync with actually starting my car. I just got a taste here. I need morel!
I have 2011 p7b and Hollowed out the cats, both front and rear, deleted mufflers, upgraded filter to k&n and cut stock air box to draw in more air, and I only use e-85 and it is way faster but it's too loud, my buddy gave me flowmaster mufflers for free, I'm installing them tomorrow!
Been there, did that when I was 16.. the loss of low end isn’t really something to quickly disregard. The truth is the opposite of what you said. The low end is where these cars shine. They can’t pull much for revs and don’t make impressive Numbers. If you want to change the exhaust do it for the sound. I guarantee in a blind test you can’t tell the difference in 8-15hp anyways.
I plan on putting a oem p71 exhaust on my 2010 grand marquis. I'm slowly giving it the p71 suspension as well. So it will be a mercury version of the street appearance vic.
I deleted my rear cats on my old 2002 P71, and added a 2.5inch catback with Pypes Violators (straight through muffler) and I lost no low end torque at all. Also the torque curve improved (car didn't fall on its face after 4500rpms) gutting your primaries, adding anti-Fowler plugs and replacing the rear cats with High-flow cats will also improve performance even in a blind test.
OHC engines do not shine in low end torque. There is also a reason they rev higher than the old push rod small block fords. But yes I don't like straight pipes on these engines, just low restriction mufflers and higher flowing cats.
I got SW Long Tube Headers with High Flow Cats & Borla Cat Back. Only regret the Borla because it's only a 2.5 inch. Low Mount Turbos will fix thd power issues real fast
5hp and 20lb less I improved my cars 0-60 by 1sec it’s not much but for a beginner twitch the car it’s great to do smaller stuff and feel the difference it might not be much but you can feel it
The faster proms video is interesting, but there are a few variables there. Biggest one being faster proms car has aftermarket headers. On a stock Vic with stock manifolds and cats I’m not sure if you’re going to see a 8-10 hp gain by just removing mufflers. The stock exhaust is pretty choked from the stock iron manifolds and cats, you might gain 1-2 hp from a muffler delete on a stock car, but it’s negligible. I’ve got a full catback on mine and even with larger mandrel bent pipes and free flowing mufflers if I gained like 5 hp I’d be surprised. With headers, it’ll be a different story tho. Headers are the best exhaust mod you can do on these cars.
He must have had other bolt on mods, a crown Vic only makes 215-225 whp (being more than generous) stock..There’s no way he gained 50hp.. The 239hp factory numbers are to the crank..Definitely good advice though..
Yup, that's what I was going to say. You can't just cut off all the catalytic convertors. If you do, the ECM will sense there's no emissions control and all kinds of warning lights will come on. Plus it will probably run like shit. Also, it's illegal in all 50 states to run without cats. Huge fines for that.
I Hollowed out my cats front and rear looks stock underneath, I added a capacitor and a resistor to both downstream o2 sensors and all monitors became ready , no mil, took it to a California star smog test and came out passing the test!
They sound best if you delete All the cats like the guy did in the video he used headers. You still get a high pitched sound if you keep the front cats on much deeper tone without them.
I ended up getting the stainless works long tubes. And Dr.gas boom tubes full 3 inch with x pipe as well. Fricken thing sounds epic and runs like hell👌
Hi. Do you know a source for 06 g m rear truck chrome trim that goes to taillights. Can i just get trim or do i need whole tail light assembly. Thanks in advance
I deleted the rear cats and put Flowmaster Delta Flow mufflers on it. The improvement was not huge, but noticeable plus my car didn't come with duals from the factory.
I have 2001 grand marquis gs and it has factory dual exhaust with h pipe. I was wondering what cutting my secondary cats and just the mufflers would sound like and keeping first set of cats, keep the factory h pipe dual exhaust and leave the resonators behind the axle. Just replace the gapes where I cut the second cats and mufflers leave everything else. Would you recommend that?

how much rust? if its just on the surface of the undercarriage get a wire wheel or even just a manual bush and knock it off. buy rust converter, comes in a spray or brush on, use the spray. keep letting it dry and coating it until there is no orange, it should all be black and only take 1 or 2 coats if you wire it well.
