    Nobody is doing a 5 speed swap for $400, considering you need a tune from marty (costs more for that tune than the auto tune) Plus you need pedals, conversion ujoint, correct yoke, adjustable clutch cable, quadrant and firewall adjuster. Oh yea, then you gotta buy a trans, Clutch and Flywheel... Lol

    I love my 2007 Ford Crown Victoria P71! Today it is in outstanding shape. Even though it has 185,504 miles and 6,136 idle hours. Over the last five years I've owned it, I have rebuilt the transmission at a premium Speed Shop for $3.8K. Water pump, alternator, starter, rear axels, and rear wheel bearings, all with lifetime warranties. Intake manifold, injectors & coils.
    This car sat in a body shop for a very long time. The front and back doors on the passenger side do not match the vin#. No frame rust, but my next project is to replace both front quarter fenders and a new paint job (it is white, so it will stay white.
    Right after I had a new set of "W"(168mph) rated tires installed. I took her out for a run. Yes, the P71 isn't the fastest thing off the line, but at 155mph she makes you feel like you're only doing 40mph. She just sets down on the road and goes,
    All around my neighborhood people have these new cars and SUVs, yet I know, for a fact, that I could chase each and every last one of them right down into the junkyard and still drive away. Not even these newer cop SUVs/Trucks would stand a chance in a durability test.
    It is truly the beast of beasts.
    I'm so proud to be the owner of such a clean example of the 07 Crown Vic P71

    I'd hardly say the manual swap is $400... You're gonna spend $400 on the clutch pedal kit alone, and that's assuming you don't have an 04+ with drive by wire.

    Remember that if you use a K&N filter you need to clean your mass air flow sensor periodically because the oil from the filter loves to stick to the sensor's guts. When you clean and oil the filter, be sure you do NOT over oil! You will have MAF issues and possibly a CEL if you do!

      That is what I've heard. That is why I haven't done it. I believe you may get a little bit better throttle response, bit not any noticable hp gains. To me, the cost and negative effects are just not worth what little benefit there may be.

    • @thetinpin
      @thetinpin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@jasoncooper3116 It takes like 2 minutes to clean the MAF, and K&N recommends cleaning/re-oiling every 50,000 miles. I clean my MAF once a year, so it's not exactly a soul crushing amount of maintenance.
      My butt dyno approves of the K&N. Besides, what else can you drop $50 on, install in 30 seconds, and get a tangible performance increase?

    • @rduonnolo
      @rduonnolo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I cut some holes in the bottom of my air box. Let's in a ton more air!

    • @thetinpin
      @thetinpin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@rduonnolo Errgh... the little tube that sticks out of the bottom corner of the air box is a crucial design feature because it pulls air from behind the headlight assembly where the air is significantly cooler than the air inside the engine bay. Cooler air is more dense (thus more richly populated with oxygen) than the warm/hot air created by the heat from the engine and exhaust system.
      It is a true 'cold air intake' straight from the factory.
      Only so much air can pass through the intake tube and throttle body because of inherent size and flow capabilities baked into Ford's design. The easiest way to enhance performance without increasing air volume is to increase the oxygen saturation of the air going into the intake manifold is to simply reduce the temperature of the air to take advantage of the more oxygen dense property of the cooler air.
      You have undoubtedly altered the sound of the engine, but I would be very surprised if there is a legitimate performance improvement from cutting holes in your intake inside the engine bay.

    I have a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis LS and it is a great car. The first modification I have made was changing my headlights to Fahren LED's. I also put in a transmission oil cooler and have gone to Amsoil for the transmission and in the engine. I would not go to the 4:10 gear ratio. I had this in my 1964 Ford f250 and I finally went to a higher gear ratio and it improved my MPG and ability to to faster than 55 mph. My next addition is putting in an Amsoil remote bypass oil filter.

    If I drop a 6R80 in to replace it, I get a much lower first gear, with closer spaced ratios all the way to a .69:1 6th gear, so I still have overdrive for low-rev highway work. It costs a lot more, but at least I don't have to worry about my warranty expiring!

    One of my mods is a TCI Deep Transmission pan with full synthetic transmission fluid. It adds 2 and a half quarts and doesn't change the ground to pan height clearance. Note: Do not completely flush your transmission fluid just change it. The new pan has a magnetized drain plug making subsequent fluid changes easier.

    Another one I would suggest is getting getting an old interceptor computer out of a junkyard. Instantly instantly changed transmission shift patterns for the better, and removed the governor speed limiter.

    The tr3650 IS a tremec 5 speed. Also if you think you are going to do a tr3650 swap for $400 you are insane. Short of finding a wrecked Mustang GT in the junkyard and only using the parts off of that car, the swap is going to run the average person closer to $1,000 if you do it yourself and install a new clutch set. Don't forget that you're going to need some serious fabrication knowledge.

    Choosing the right cam and headers will get you more power for less money than this list. +20 for a tune on a V8 engine isn't that great. The secret to cheap speed has always been weight reduction and gearing. I could easily get this car down to 3,000 lbs without even trying. Add some 4:10 gears, you'll have a much much quicker car that handles a ton better and stops alot better too. K&N filters suck, you need an actual Cold air intake to benefit from anything like that.

      How u get rid of weight without taking away interiors looks?

    • @Whats-It-To-Ya
      @Whats-It-To-Ya 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@phenom4023 remove the sound deadening and insulation under the carpet. Then ditch the spare tire and jack. Could replace the front seats with lightweight racing seats. That's about it for the interior without making it look bad. The real weight reduction is under the car and the hood, along with fiberglass front clip. My first weight reduction mod on any car is a/c delete and sometimes power steering delete. On some cars you'll even gain a few horsepower that way, but not always. Lighter wheels are a huge benefit too, if you are willing to spend the money. I'm just scratching the surface here since there's alot of weight reduction tricks you can do without making your car look bad. It's basically free horsepower and it improves the life of your engine too because you are moving less weight. The key is to figure out what you want to do with the car and how far you want to go with it.

    • @dramaface
      @dramaface 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dude, you are so off. You could get it to 3k lbs, huh? Even if you removed the entire engine it would still weigh over 3k. These cars weigh 4,100 lbs, boss, taking a spare out and putting lightweight wheels is moot point. And 20 hp for a tune isn’t a lot? Dude, what are you talking about? That is great for a horsepower:price ratio. “K&N filters suck, you need a cold air intake.” The crown Vic comes with a cold air induction box already. A k&n filter would flow much better than a paper filter. You just seem to be talking without any real data about these cars.
