Hi Mike. I had a lot of experience with both cameras in the '70's on to a couple of years ago. I loved the Pentax 6X7 for my art projects that I was doing because of the nice big negatives gave me great 16x20 B&W prints. But when I started my wedding photography career...the Hassy was the system to get. Eventually I sold my 3 bodies and six lenses. Looking back, I should have kept both systems! -Joe
I used both also as a pro fashion shooter. I had about 6 pentax bodies because one was always being repaired and assistans were always loading one or 2 as we shot. One was needed just for the polaroid back. The 165?? leaf shutter lens was needed for flash. 300mm lens was great but flair prone. Blads were better because of the backs and Leaf shutter lenses. Clients couldnt understand why i would get a light stand leg or reflector in the shot because of the square format that would then be cropped for a magazine page. Nice to not have to turn the camera on its side like the Pentax also which takes us to the Mamiya Rz. Great camera for fashion and so much more advanced than the Blads. I still hhave a 553 and a 503 blad though . I used to shoot for the mags with a ELM Moon camera also for a bit of fun.
I'm increasingly loving your photography style photo shoot after photo shoot. I'm appreciating your humble approach to everything related to the photographic process. Everything feels true and genuine, not pretentious. And Ali is a jewel. So much energy, such a contagious smile. Cheers, -Rick
Again Mike, you knocked it out the box. The shot that you said was your favorite, it's on for sure...but my favorite shot from this video is the one that has home girl wearing the pink suit, sitting in the vehicle behind the wheel with her body turned to the door facing the camera. That shot is dope. Hey, listen Mike, you keep pushing. I'm loving your work!
I like the way you style your shoots.......heavy on the vintage LA look of the 1940's, 70's, and 80's.......the laundromat, I think you did one at a hotel, the family out in the desert, and this one near the beach. I would imagine that it's getting more and more difficult to find these unspoiled/undeveloped locations.......especially in and around L.A. Perfect choice of vehicle with the 1987 SL. Love Ali's look and overall vibe. It's evident the chemistry you two have working together.
Another fun video! That pink jacket Ali was wearing reminds me of Chanel. (She seems like she was fun to work with!) There is something about that square format!
Bruh these shots are fireeee also the little video edits make me feel like I'm watching a fragrance commercial (which is something I really want to get into making)
Absolutely love your work!! Love following your journey. One thing I’d love to see more of is your technical thinking towards your shooting. What goes through your mind in terms of setting exposure settings, deciding what aperture to use, dealing with light, just things like that would be real interesting to hear. Love what you do!
Every time I click on one of your videos I hit like first and then watch lol and never have any regrets. Always makes me want to get out there and shoot as well.
No joke, that would have been a dope pic with you and her in the car. The wind was blowing her hair like you guys were rolling, And Mike with the cruising pose.📸📸📸📸💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
So with the shutter speeds that you have available on these two cameras, I assume that to shoot at wider apertures on a bright day like this you are using nd filters, or at least a polarizer on some of these shots?
Your videos are always so cool bruh!! I know that area you're shooting at lol PCH/Malibu/Santa Monica.... I know that because I just shot a vlog video for Switch Pod Vs. DJI Ronin SC 🤣🤣🤣. Those pictures came out amazing!! Lookin forward to the next one💯💯
Fan theory: all of these people are in the same "universe" all connected by the Kennedy paper article 🤔 would be cool to see Mike shoot a film on the connection of all these people through the article!!! Dope video as always Mike!
for me the picks of the pics were the b/w with the hood open !!;) and the with Ali on lying on the boot with her handbag , loved them , having said that the colours in your favourite was gorgeous !! how long before we go to gold 120 ??? guessing late april and may people are going to be going wild for it !!
Hey Mike, I am thinking about buying a Pentax 67.........any advice. I started out using film but I quickly moved to digital ( I have used digital for the past 20 years)
@@MikeGrayFilm Thank you for putting out this fantastic video! The video was very enjoyable to watch! Cinematic vibes and Classic Photography feels where most people have forgotten what photography was about in modern times. We go out and create! This is what you are showing, images to be grateful to look for. Your model did a great job in the segment! She's stunning, beautiful with that positive energy! Overall this is fire!
Beautiful video & photos man! Love the look of the 6x6! You perfectly exposed each photo. Colors, contrast are amazing! What did ya use to meter such a tough scene(Harsh light etc)? Also did you meter for the highlights to get this look? Thanks :)
The crazy thing for this shoot is, I didn’t have my light meter. I used the internal meter on my Pentax. But I’ve used it for years so I’m very comfortable with it. And just used the same settings on my Hasselblad. Thank you!!!
Im tempted to get the Hassy because my man Mike here! Just don’t know how I would react with a square format but am open to the challenge tho! Love the work as always G✊🏻
Pentax 67 wins no contest if you like available light portraits, just because it's a platform you can adapt interesting exotic lenses onto, while the Hasselblad is crippled by only using first party lenses.
first time i’ve heard the best len’s that carl zeiss made , described as crippling.. i wonder how all the successful and famous photographers through the 50-90s made it through their careers and found work when being stuck with and hampered by the hassie and crippled by the carl zeiss !! 🤣

Thank you!
Great video man 👍🏻
Thanks Andy!
I'm torn between the 2 photos at 3:10 and 3:12 being my favorites. All of these are on point👏🏽
