I have both of those systems and appreciate what each brings to my photography. But, since I grew up with a Rolleicord in my hands my heart will always be with the square format. Really enjoyed the video!
Was just re-watching your other video yesterday where you showed your prints at The Icon and you were talking about the two. Really wanting to get the 67 and have vision for how I'll use it.
Hasselblad 500cm for portraits and an M6 for general daily life and environmental portraits. Love your stuff, keep up the good work and fight the analogue fight!
Nice video. I mostly shoot with my Hasselblad 503cx. I rarely pick up my other cameras. Such a satisfying user experience, beautiful images, and I love composing 6x6.
Haven't watched it yet (will savor every minute and watch it throughout the week) but 67 ganggggg best ergonomic murder weapon!! Love your stuff brother!! You're literally my number 1 inspiration for the editorials i had planned in the next months
I shoot the Mamiya RB67 Pro SD system with both 6x7 and 6x8 backs, as well as my Hasselblads, 503CW and 500ELM. Different systems, different formats each have their own way of influencing my approach to a shoot. In the same way that your choice of film does. All pre-shoot choices that have an impact on the process and the end result. I love both systems.
Another great video I have never shot with either of those cameras but it’s interesting to see such a comparison I am still having a blast shooting it my Fujica GL690 and just love the versatility of the 6x9 negative though it does cost more than the smaller formats.
When coming back to Film I had the luxury having spotted a used camera store that held my credit card allowing me to use a Pentax 6x7 and a Hassy 501. after one week with both I ended up with the Hasselblad for 6x6, a Zeiss Super Ikonta and a Fuji GSW690 :) It is fun and your videos are really inspirational - I wish I could join you for a casual photoshoot :)
Owned and made a living with Pentax 6x7s, but am retired now. Sold the beasts, lenses, finders and all, and will see if a Hassy 500C/M with one back and one normal lens will be enough for a relaxed hobby. (Enough expired B&W film is in the fridge, and enough XTol in the cupboard to keep me going for a few years…)
I love my pentax 6x7. Otherwise im using an fm , fm2, fm3 and an f just to change it up. And then I have a 5x7 kodak large format ive been wanting to use. Been enjoying using them. Very fortunate to have them!
I love the 67, I recently acquired something amazing that probably not many people have heard about….. the marine housing for the Pentax 67. something is gonna come up!
Great video! I just wanted to say, with the Pentax and Hasselblad, it makes a lot of difference in user experience with different focusing screens. Pentax 67 comes in two different oem screens, either centered microprism or gridded matte. There are aftermarket screens available too. The focusing screens for hassy are plenty. The 42215 screen is probably the most expensive. A lot of people like the 42250 screen over the stock one. It’s difficult to enjoy the camera when it’s hard to focus accurately. I had struggled a long time with focusing until I found the right screen and lens combination for me.
I’ve been fascinated with your excellent photography using the Hasselblad and Pentax 6x7, so I got myself… a Rolleiflex! Lol! So much more portable! Love your videos!
Great video, Shoot with a Hassselblad 501C, Nikon for 35mm: Both digital D800 and Film F5...By far the 501C is my go to camera but there times when a 35mm is the tool to use.
Easy. The Hasselblad. Why? - Interchangeble film backs - Leaf shutter lens, making strobe work easier (not something I do everyday, though) - Smaller. I also like 6x6 (some may not like it, considering it felt unnatural/forced) Well, I also like the Pentax 67, and can see myself heavily using it *if* I were a portrait photographer. Sadly SLR bigger than 6x6 is pain in the a** for travelling.
Long Live Film. It's all I schoot. The expense of film won't make me go to digital. Long Live KEH. I bought a Rolleichord from there. I used it twice. I still have film in it from the second time I used it and will finish the roll soon. Your photos came out nice. No instagram for Kira?
I’m rocking with Yashica Mat 124G and Rolleiflex 3.5. When I saw you about to set the box on fire I thought Mike is on some Tyler ish. And then surprise Tyler made an appearance.
I have both I love both, it's really hard to pick a winner. I do a lot of automotive and I feel I can get sometimes better compositions with the Square format. and i love the Zeiss lenses a tad bit more.
Great video! I have the Mamiya c220. I've never shot a TRL. I put a couple rolls through it but because of issues, I haven't been able to develop or print them. I can hardly wait to see the results.
I shoot portraits and landscapes with the Mamiya RB67 Pro S and use the Rolleiflex 2.8D Hasselblad 500 C/M for street, architecture or street portraits where I need to go handheld. I choose the Rolleiflex when I just need an 80mm lens.
In my mind there's no contest. The Pentax 67 has a focal plane shutter so you can adapt any kind of lens to it and experiment with many exotic systems. The leaf shutter lenses in the Hasselblad 500CM have other use cases they are great for. I wish there was a camera with a similar ergonomic layout as the Hasselblad, but with a focal plane shutter... that doesn't have the price tag of a Hasselblad 2000 series camera :D
1:59 Damn bro, why you do that winder like that? 🤣 Great video, I have a 6x6 and a Pentax 67 and shoot the square format a lot more. Mostly cause of the weight of the camera but TBH for me, the biggest decision has to be the style of images I shoot and not being a portrait shooter I prefer the 6x6 more.
i love all of your works, thank you so much for the inspiration! ps i shot on pentax 6x7 and yashica mat 124g depending on what i want to get, just like you said. thank you!
Their all good cameras, its just a matter of taste and use, I like the modular design of the Hasselblad AND RB, the pentax (which Im planning to buy) with the prism is a faster more precise shoot?; to eye, compose, focus, shoot and has the "commercial look" with shallow DOF.
My Lady is a home health aid, she came across some medium format camera's in the building she work in. A lot of stuff goes into lost and found when a client passes away and the family or someone doesn't claim the belongings. She called and asked if I wanted them. I was like heck yeah and I asked is there a brand name on them. Me hoping she was going to say Hasselblad or something top end. She didn't know how to pronounce so she spelled it out Yashica. I was like yeah I'll talk them both. So a few days past my birthday was coming up and I was heading down to see her , she told me she threw out one of the cameras it was disgusting , it had roach droppings in it but the other one was fine. (Really)? Anyway the other camera was a Yashica-D in the original leather case with lens cap. When i got back home checked for fungus did a quick clean up with some lighter fluid on the shutter release and timer everything works took it out shot a roll of 120 Fujifilm 400H , waiting now for the prints, I opt to have it scan to digital but send me the negatives.
i have some 35mm (minolta maxxum 5, minolta srt-100x, minolta x-370, canon elan 7ne, canon elan 7) and medium format cameras (bronica sq-b, bronica sq-ai, mamiya rz67, pentax 67). i still have some old 35mm film, i will probably shoot until i run out then shoot exclusively 120. i'll probably keep the srt (all mechanical) and elan 7 (auto) and sell the other 2 or 3 35mm cams lying around. my goal is to acquire a mamiya 7ii one day.
Love my Pentax 67 and for my square format I use a tlr Yashica Mat 124g. Hasselblad is too rich for me. Question? When you meter in spotting lightning during the outdoor shoot, do you meter the shadows or the sunlight? Or a combination of both?
I’ve been shooting with the Mamiya 7 for three years and love it to death. I’m one for environmental work, and carrying it with me all day to different places is perfect for me. 6•7 format is also untouchable to me 🥲
I can work far quicker and easier with Pentax, but the optics on the Hasselblad are just phenomenal. The moral of the tale is that you can't go wrong with either system; they are both wonderful.
For medium format I shoot 645 (mamiya 645 pro) and 6x6 (mamiya c330). I also have a 6x8 Fuji that gets used on occasion. Don't have a 67 camera yet but someday 🤞
When I want a light medium format, I go for my TLR yashica-12 (underrated lens), outdoor portraits the Pentax 67, and when I really want to slow down I’ll pick up the RB67 or the Mamiya Universal. I been shooting cheap black n white film and scan at home to get the costs down. Do you make prints or sell them?
It’s weird I started straight out with medium format i picked up the mamiya rb67 and just picked up the bronica ec about a week ago only because im going camping in a week and didnt want to carry the rb around with me for four days straight
If the photographer were good then both are brilliant cameras, otherwise they are as shite as the photographers, like 90% of the Y.T guys, excluding yourself of course.
That was so much fun! I cant wait for everyone to see what you have coming next!
Likewise man 🙏🏾🙏🏾
Tyler with the advanced video preview 😂 Love the video man, keep it up.
We are also waiting you to comeback on TH-cam Tyler ! Great team here
I have both of those systems and appreciate what each brings to my photography. But, since I grew up with a Rolleicord in my hands my heart will always be with the square format. Really enjoyed the video!
Thanks for sharing!

Your journey as a photographer really inspires me. Mike, thank you again.
I really appreciate you sticking around 🙏🏾
I like to have my hands always on new equipment. I like to shoot film as well digital and both in Medium and full frame.
Fire !!! 4:52 -literally. Nice video man ! Great "mood" to it. Nice flicks.
Thanks so much!
Hasselblad 500cm for portraits and an M6 for general daily life and environmental portraits. Love your stuff, keep up the good work and fight the analogue fight!
Thank you!
Mike, as always, you inspire, teach and motivate to take photos always, for which I thank you very much my friend
Thanks so much for that.
Great episode, your composition and balance around light and shadow, outside has improved dramatically since I first started watching this channel 👌
Thanks so much
Nice video. I mostly shoot with my Hasselblad 503cx. I rarely pick up my other cameras. Such a satisfying user experience, beautiful images, and I love composing 6x6.
Agreed. Thank you for watching 🙏🏾

I truly love that and am honored bro. 🙏🏾
Getting acclimated to medium format; so far I like my Mamiya 645 1000s and Sekonic L308 light meter.
Great video, Mike! Good seeing Tyler...
Very nice!
Thanks so much Charles.
I shoot the Mamiya RB67 Pro SD system with both 6x7 and 6x8 backs, as well as my Hasselblads, 503CW and 500ELM. Couldn’t have said it any better!
The RB beats all of them; much more modular; nah, its a matter of taste.....or is it?
I rock the hassy 500 and sl2 for digital. Preciate you and the team.
🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

You were one of the reasons i picked up a Pentax 6x7
That puts a smile on my face
same here

something is gonna come up!
I need more info on that!
Love to see a new video from you ! Shooting with the Bronica ETRSi over here, underrated camera system!
Never shot with one but I’ve heard some wonderful things!
Great video . Film cameras I shoot regularly are my: Leica M3 (single and double stroke), Hasselblad 503 cx and 500 cm and a RB67 Pro SD.
Thank you.
Well damn. You have quite the lineup my friend.

Thanks a lot!!! Very true.
I have 3, Hasselblad 501c, Pentax 645N, Bronica GS-1, use and love all of therm.
Hell yea!
Setting stuff on fire like your mentor. That is next level right there dude. Also, I have a suggestion, tripod for those fire shots.
Had to haha. I have a problem. I like to live life on the edge with no tripod 🤦🏾♂️
@@MikeGrayFilm oh you young kids, LOL!

Good choice! Haha thanks a lot man.
I am a bit late to the party. Great content. I too have both systems. I stay with B&W with my film shooting as it just feels retro to me.
Thanks Don.
The boombox 🔥 love love.
It’s time for me to upgrade from my little Olympus 😂
lol that’s an easy switch for you Caela 😂
Hasselblad 200/2000 series Cameras with Acute Matte Screen !
Love the video, dope as usual! I shoot the rz67 and 645afd for film and the gfx100 for my medium format photography!
Nice!!!!
Thx bro!
Great video, Shoot with a Hassselblad 501C, Nikon for 35mm: Both digital D800 and Film F5...By far the 501C is my go to camera but there times when a 35mm is the tool to use.
Thank you. Yea you’re working with an all star camera line up as well 👌🏾
I’m currently using a Mamiya RB 67 and a Mamiya 645 pro tl camera. I will be using them both for a portrait session before the year end.
I love it
This was fire!….literally 😅 🔥
Haha I appreciate you!
Easy. The Hasselblad. Why?

Depends ons what youre shooting in my opinion. I like the P67 for everything except flash

I feel the same way Marc. It really just depends though.

The boom box was my fav. Did you use any other lighting to light that scene or just the fire?
I used a constant light also
🔥🔥🔥 I was waiting to see the footage of it exploding lol
lol private viewing haha

I’m shooting with Bronica ETRS, primarily with 75mm or 150mm
HP5plus and Portra 160
Nice

Love it 🙏🏾
I shot with both. Had to sell the Hasselblad though. I was down bad that day
I get it bro. Sh*t happens!
great vid as usual .. what method do you use to scan your films to digital .. thank you
I use my photo lab. They do all of my processing and scanning 🙏🏾
RB67 pro SD and Pentax 645n 🖖🏾

Love your videos, man! P67 much better then poor and overrated H500 (for my opinion)). You should try a Rolleiflex 2.8 planar for 6x6!
I'll check it out! Thanks for watching man.
I have the 501 CM nad Pentax 645N with the 67 105 lens... So temped to get the 67...
Do it.
I have the keiv and the fujifilm gfx. The gfx comes close to that film look.

Question? When you meter in spotting lightning during the outdoor shoot, do you meter the shadows or the sunlight? Or a combination of both?
I meter for the sunlight
Love the boom shot. How do you correctly meter the boom shot with sekonic in this situation?
I metered at box speed for the constant light. Portra 400 is wonderful and has great latitude so the fire was fine at box speed.
I’ve been shooting with the Mamiya 7 for three years and love it to death. I’m one for environmental work, and carrying it with me all day to different places is perfect for me. 6•7 format is also untouchable to me 🥲
I have much respect for that Mamiya 7
Would love to see you give a Fuji GW690 a go!
I’ve been eyeing that camera heavily.
I can work far quicker and easier with Pentax, but the optics on the Hasselblad are just phenomenal. The moral of the tale is that you can't go wrong with either system; they are both wonderful.
100% agreed!
shutter speed of the 500 has be reluctant to buy one.
I can understand.
Truth, film eats all of our money but it’s worth the investment.
Truth haha
For medium format I shoot 645 (mamiya 645 pro) and 6x6 (mamiya c330). I also have a 6x8 Fuji that gets used on occasion. Don't have a 67 camera yet but someday 🤞
Nice. You’ll get one!!!

I am team Hasselblad! But, I am not shooting film. Oh, and you need a tri-pod dude, lol!
We live life on the deep end over here 😂

Mike, been following for years. My only gripe about your channel is that there aren't videos every day. ;) jk LOL
Haha I promise you we are going to start weekly uploads very soon. 😌🙏🏾
These are two cameras that I grew up with. The Pentax is almost unusable handheld due to the mirror slap. Nice idea. Wrong execution.
I highly disagree with you. I’ve taking ALL of my photos handheld with my Pentax. They came out just fine
