    You have to do a DEEP CLEAN of your cameras after exposing them to sand like that. When you wiped off the Hasselblad with your shirt - that KILLED me.
    Buy a can of compressed air and high pressure air all of your camera parts as much as you can disassemble them. Nothing kills a camera like sand.
    I shot a Konica Hexar AF in sand dunes like that - it needed expensive service shortly after.

    bro idk there was something magical about those Pentax shots!!! Also in case u didn’t know, I just recently learned myself - bc of a concept called “diffraction,” most good lenses are sharper until about f/11 then they actually start to soften! So if it’s sunny you can definitely shoot at f/11 at 1/125 to be safe on the motion blur side PLUS get even sharper results. Keep killin it man 🔥

    I wish I had your worst conditions. Stuck to concrete and pavement in South Africa (Pretoria). You might think "Oh just take pictures of houses or the city" No no no. See in South Africa every house has a 7 foot fence with electric fencing and spikes. And the city you get mugged in broad daylight. The only places to take pictures of are on the roads... with 800 cars on them... then you get mugged in broad daylight again. Or you pay $60 for a "permit" to shoot at a decent mall. $60 is more than you'd make from 2 photoshoots here each spending 14h+ editing.
    Not because of a lack of skill but because people here hate. And I mean from the bottom of their heart *Hate* paying creatives. Less than $25 per shoot with Canon 7D's and 6D's is common here.

    I know this is an older video but I revisited it because I loved it so much... I have a 500CM and I do love that camera but I sometimes really find it hard sometimes to get critical focus on shots that are that mid to farther distance. Does the 90* viewfinder really help with shooting with the CM? Or do you have a different split focusing screen? I'm not trying to drop $$$$$ on a screen and viewfinder but if the price is right I would consider it. I still love shooting film but my gosh is it getting crazy expensive even in 35mm. Still have a Canon 1N which I love.. Considering maybe even selling the 500CM to go digital MF :/

    Just letting you know that sand can damage your cameras. I saw a old video on a army dude in Afghanistan or Iraq and he had his Pentax digital cameras. He put sand all over his camera and then washed the sand off with water and his Pentax digital cameras was all fine. Olympus is also said to be very good but that's now OM Digital.

    I am a bit late to the party. Great images, and as usual the B&W is the best. You're lucky, aperture blades fuse together above 116 degrees F.

  • @carlseibert9015
    @carlseibert9015 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I always thought it would be great if they had a 45 degree finder for the Pentax. That was the only thing I missed from the 'Blad. And yeah, I know the Pentax has to be able to do vertical. So, no way to do a 45 finder that wouldn't weigh 1.67 tons.

  • @bigrobotnewstoday1436
    @bigrobotnewstoday1436 ปีที่แล้ว

    Pro tip the old school National Geographic that had to be in the heat all day would stick white paper to their cameras to reflect the heat away.
    I really wish they would bring back white cameras and lens to reflect heat. Black cameras and lens are good if the sun is out and your in really cold weather it can keep the electronics warm.
    Robert Wong he shoots Olympus and he makes videos. He got a new Olympus camera and he went with the silver body because his black Olympus camera once in a blue moon shuts down. He said the heat is really bad sometimes in Malaysia.

    That Haselblad is nice but it is also harder to shoot and let me tell you why... It is easy to fool yourself into thinking images are great because of that 6x6 format so you have to work extra hard to make sure the format is not fooling you. I do like what you got with it though. Technical wise I do like what you got with the Hassie, maybe it is the glass?

    My impression from limited use of the Hasselblad is that it is not well designed for use in a location like this, where there is a lot of dust, dirt and sand. It is not well sealed and can be quite delicate. The Pentax is a much tougher build. In fairness to Hasselblad, it was designed for use in a studio, and in that setting, it outclasses the Pentax easily.
