Mike is way too humble. Says the photos aren't fire and all I see is pure heat. Keep it up man. Would love to see a shoot that incorporates off camera strobes in an outdoor setting with the pentax 67
These photos genuinely blowing my mind. The depth and detail from the Pentax is wild and your compositions are like BAM! Super impactful stuff. Tu certainly making your work easier too.
Every time I watch one of your videos, I get a spark of motivation to create. As someone whose main tool is a digital camera, I learn to be even more intentional with the photos I create, from watching your videos. You and Tu, created dope art again and it feels so effortless. This video was a great reminder of how you can create in any location even if it isn’t the “most appealing” and transform it into your own. Off the top of the dome, this video is definitely Top 5 for me behind the sand dunes, both New York locations, and Wendell Scott. Great work again to you and to Tu and Victor as well.
I love watching your videos because they always make me feel like I'm taken back into the 1950s which I think is like the epitome of fashion photography
Bro 💪🏽 this is why I love your content, you always keep it 💯 and don't sell extra BS. It's always an inspiration vibe. To go out and try something new and see if it works or not is motivational. Keep up the great work 💯
I think this is your best work ever.Portra 800 was perfect both color and bnw. Do 10 more shoots like this and your life would never be the same :) Simplicity is the key! Life is Good!
Incredible shots ! I feel you when it's about to shoot with a 800 iso in harsh sunlight it's clearly not the best But you did an amazing job with thoses ones, both colors and black & white ! The composition are so well done too, much love & support from France as always homie
First Mike I wanna give you all props in the growth that you have shown from your first video to now. next the thing that sets you apart from a lot of TH-camrs that shoot film is, you actually print your work Unlike a number of other photographers on TH-cam who shoot film Although the camera and film are important they mean nothing if theres no print or it looks like crap. I enjoy watching your videos but more importantly I would buy your work. That’s the point
One last thing: if you ever visit Paris sometime just let me know. I know the good spots, a few insanely beautiful models and a very good makeup artist. And I have lots of 120 film in my freezer. Cheers, this was a good video, I always learn a lot when I watch your channel.
I really like the shot where the model is holding on to the handrails. Even though you think you see a lot of grain, consider printing your favorite at least two feet on the short side and then see what you think. It's another good one!
Brother you hit it on point bro!!! I'm trying to step my portrait photography. You got dope ideas man!! Film photography is here, and your setting a good example for us film photographer's!!!😁
I usually prefer colour over bw but I think I preferred the bw. Having said that I do love your high contrast with deep blacks in the colour shots 4:13
For me, personally, black and white all day. I love shooting Ilford delta 3200 in 120 at 1250 and processing for 3200. You get a whole pile of film speed and with the larger 120 negatives, the grain is still really controlled, though ai mostly shoot 6x9 if doing 120. I wish Ilford made it in sheet form. That would be the definition of awesome. For full daylight, Ilford panf+ 50 is great. You can open the lens up and still have a reasonable shutter speed.
You were rattling off some bangers🔥, definitely appreciate how you capture the good and the bad when it comes to a photo shoot. Can’t always go smoothly 🤷🏾♂️
I loved the color photos as much as the B&Ws man. You and Tu did y'alls thing. Wish you could've gotten those diner shots but that just means it wasn't the right time. I'm sure you'll kill it when you hop back in there. I'm local to OC bro, but I'm up in LA on weekends - would love to work with you some time.
Mike, Tu, and Victor Melchor are an amazing combination. "A Film Photoshoot In 5 Minutes" at the laundromat had an amazing opening, and so did this video. I would love to see Mike and Victor do a fashion film with Tu. Mike directs, Victor shoots, and Tu does Tu. Photos are cool and everything, but Mike and Victor should really be making feature films. Or at least some fashion films.
I don’t enjoy shooting in that light (would even prefer overcast) and would definitely use a diffuser in scenes like the ones you’re shooting in. Great photos, regardless, you still made it work 👏
To me it was always a simple answer - it's ALWAYS black and white UNLESS there's a very specific reason for using colour. Like if there is a funky mix of colours that is an added value to the image, or there's one specific element that pops out because of the colour and it has a story to tell for the image.
im really confused on the not liking the color part because it does look close to your other shots the only difference is that they look like they were edited a little to bring the harshness of the sunlight down but the colors looked her her skin tone the water and everything else was nice to me
Portra 800 is a fantastic film. I would say it is even better than Portra 400. The thing is, if you are going to shoot outdoors in bright sunlight without an nd filter you're looking at 1/500th at F22. If you want to get down to F5.6 you need to either put on a 2 or 3 stop ND filter and deal with looking through a dark viewfinder or shoot with one of the newer Hasselblad film cameras that lets you get up to 1/2000th. You can overexpose Portra 800 by 2/3rds a stop and get a better image than stock but any more overexposed and you will get grain.
This is the 50th time something goes wrong with your shoots lol man I can tell you you’re not alone cause I can relate big time 😂 but I’m the same way I’m getting more in tune with doing my photos in B&W it’s has such a 50s editorial vibe to it. Another banger video btw!🍊
I guess we are all different because personally I loved the colour images - great work!
Haha thanks Paul!
Agreed! I loved the look and contrasty colors in the harsh sun!
But this B&W ones were perfect. Not gonna lie. They were amazing.
@@zondervon Thanks stephen
Fantastic work Mike, gorgeous shots! Similar to other folks I thought that the colour ones were actually better. I loved the colours! Keep it coming!
Thanks so much bro!
No matter colors or b&w, you're absolutely killing the composition
I truly appreciate you Sherry!
Mike is way too humble. Says the photos aren't fire and all I see is pure heat. Keep it up man. Would love to see a shoot that incorporates off camera strobes in an outdoor setting with the pentax 67

Love the black and white 🔥 def editorial. Also loved how you mentioned capturing and creating “timeless” photos; those are the real gems

Daaaaaaaaamn, that model is fire.
I love watching your videos because they always make me feel like I'm taken back into the 1950s which I think is like the epitome of fashion photography
Actually love all of these shots, color and B&W! Great work Mike!!
Thanks Jason!

I appreciate you bro. That’s the only way I can be 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Great video Mike. The B&W vibe was great with these shots. As I one read "We watch a film in colour, but read a book in black & white"
Beautifully put.
You're crazy. The pictures look great. Amazing composition.
I appreciate you
I think this is your best work ever.Portra 800 was perfect both color and bnw.

Super impressed. Vibrant colours really work.👋🏻

B&W always looks amazing
Agreed.
Great work Mike and Tumorrow.

Thank you Ronny!

Thank you so much Edward.
I like both the B&W and the colour, but the colour shots feel really rich, I’m not usually a Portra 800 fan but I really liked it on this shoot
Thanks Gareth!

I’m definitely going to take you up on that !
Tu is just awesome. And your photography never disappoints, Mike, no matter what you say. 🙂
You're the best.
The b&w shots are so powerful but the warmth of the portra is really doing the damn thing. Great shots, great vid !
Thanks so much Natasha!
The exposure were on point. I think getting that perfect exposure in harsh sunlight can make or break the photos
I agree!
You've really improved very fast, these are crazy!!!
Thank you.
I definitely rocked with these images :D
Thank you.
stunning! you guys killed it! mad talent bro!
Thanks!
I really like the shot where the model is holding on to the handrails. Even though you think you see a lot of grain, consider printing your favorite at least two feet on the short side and then see what you think. It's another good one!

This man don't miss
I definitely do! But thank you haha
Great pics as usual! 🙂
Thanks David!
killer images as usual!
Thanks Scott
My guy, this might be some of your best work. These images would look right at home in a fashion magazine.
I appreciate that man.
Just a goat doing goat things keep up the fire work man
Haha I appreciate you
Beautiful work man ❤️
Thanks so much
Always inspire me to go out with camera. Your videos are always top notch 🙏🏻🤝🏻
Thanks so much Jack!

You were rattling off some bangers🔥, definitely appreciate how you capture the good and the bad when it comes to a photo shoot. Can’t always go smoothly 🤷🏾♂️
i appreciate you.
It's funny how we all see things differently Mike - I loved the colour shots on this one.
I appreciate it man
Let’s go. Weekend looking good now 👌🏾
We are BACK!
Brilliant video!
Thank you!
You should do a video on how you edit pictures !
I will definitely do that very soon. May even drop a preset pack.
Thanks a lot Tristan! Let’s do it.
Banging photos, would of been nice to see what those restaurant photos were gonna turn out like. I cant even pick between the black and white lol
I’ll make sure to knock that out soon! Haha thanks
That’s why you gotta love interchangeable backs.
You’ve got a point!

At your best. Great results, oozing California.
There we go.
Whether it’s in B&W or Color, the photos are 🔥🔥🔥 as always! 🤌🏾
Thanks Lucas!

Babababangers on the bnw conversions!

100%!
Love it brother

🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Damn.. those vibes 🔥🔥
🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Black and White is pure timeless stuff, love it. Maybe more a portra 400 scene. Did you use the 105mm lens?
Agreed. I actually used the 90mm lens
Portra 800 is a fantastic film. I would say it is even better than Portra 400. The thing is, if you are going to shoot outdoors in bright sunlight without an nd filter you're looking at 1/500th at F22. Thanks for that!
Excellent !!! Foolish question: were you using a polarizer filter when she was in the pool or just not necessary?
Thank you in advance
Thanks!! No filter
Great work
Thanks you
Can you do a video on your scanning workflow? :)
i will very soon!
I mean..... black and white is just fire
I love it Nice. b&w will always prevail.
This is the 50th time something goes wrong with your shoots lol man I can tell you you’re not alone cause I can relate big time 😂 but I’m the same way I’m getting more in tune with doing my photos in B&W it’s has such a 50s editorial vibe to it. Another banger video btw!🍊
Can’t stop. Won’t stop lol!
Do a video with different noise reductions with film.
smashed that shoot. ✊
Thanks!
For black and white, I actually prefer 35mm as I like the gritty, grainy look.
That makes sense!
Those color ones were bangin though! Love the message. Sometimes you just gotta get out there and try. MJ didn't hit every game winner.
FACTS!
You’re absolutely filthy with that camera 🔥
I appreciate you haha
Liked the potra best
🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Great video ! Thinking about recreating this kind od a video on my channel.
Nice!
Such a good vibe man, love your art! Do you black and white Portra or is it another stock?
That’s 800 turned black & white.
Loving the color shots. Did you meter with the Pentax at box speed ? The model is fire too
I did Marc!
*mike shoots portra 800 but doesnt like the colors* Actually shoots some of the nicest color images I have seen this year on youtube!
I appreciate you.
how do you get your film scanned/processed?
I liked the color more than the BW.
🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Do you remember what time it was during the ones near the pool?
About 3pm
Nice shoot Mike! How did you meter this? did you end up pulling it? or shoot at higher shutter?
I actually shot this at box speed & processed it normal. Thanks!
@@MikeGrayFilm oh nice.. thanks!
I want to ask so many questions. Do you use ND filters with the 800? Do you pull it?
No ND filters and I processed normally.
@@MikeGrayFilm I'm new to film, so maybe the question sounds stupid: does this mean the film was overexposed?
man all that hype an no inside the restaurant shots !
I was hurt as well bro.
🔥🔥🔥
Mel’s Diner as in Alice the sitcom from back in the day?
🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
BANG!
🙌🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I thought they were great!
thanks Jennifer
It's so strange how much shorter Mike looks in comparison when sitting down lol
😂😂😂
Beautiful Work! and your channel is still improving! I belong to the "minority" who likes the Black and White Images better ...
🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
What did you rate your film at 800 speed ?
Box speed.
💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿
🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
