    Thanks for this video. I’m in the same boat. My 2018 F150 5.0 goes back Monday for its second visit. TSB didn’t change anything. Still rattled. In fact; now I’m noticing it does it even when warm. So over all these issues. Keep us posted on your progress.

    I was regretting buying my 2017, 2.7 liter after the 2018's came out with all the changes, but now I'm starting to think that I'm glad I have the old tried and true 6 speed. Everyone was telling me you should have gotten the 5.0, but I have to say, that the 2.7 engine and 6 speed trans have been great so far - no problems, praise God! Sorry about what you are going through, but I'm sure it will work out in the end.

    If its the engine rattle I think its what I've always called " spark knock". These Coyote 5.0s really prefer 93 octane. The Mustang engine requires 93. The truck engine is largely the same accept the compression is lowered some and cam profiles. I still don't think 87 works well in them and running mid grad will stop the spark knock rattle. The truck 5.0 still has 10 to 1 compression which is higher than a Chevys compression for example. Higher compression and performance engines will rattle and ping with low octane fuel. Ford would have to lower the compression down to where chevy is or require middle grade

    I had some serious clunking and rough shifts from my 2.7 10 spd. Had the Trans reflashed and it's been great ever since. I have the 3.73 rear end in mine so when I have it in sport mode, downshifts are a little rough but, that's because the torque converter on these trans are locked about 90% of the time in Sport mode. Try doing the Trans clunk in Snow\wet mode. If it doesn't do it then it could be the nature of the transmission.

      I just bought a 2.7L. Passed on the 5.0. All of my research showed the 2.7L to be the most reliable out of the engines Ford offers for the F150. For a small engine it's got some power. It's true any brand can have issues. Fords no different than Chevy or Dodge. In reality it goes Ford, Chevy, Dodge for reliability on trucks.

    My truck was doing the same thing and they told me that the engine was shot/had compression issues and the lifters were burned up inside the valve 1 and 2. The truck has 91,000 miles on it. It was under a “certified” warranty, and the dealership claim they are going to fix it. It’s been sitting at their shop for 2 months now. At first they said they were waiting on parts, then waiting on a bay to replace the engine. I’m super worried that when I get my F150 back, it will still have that rattle and hard thump when it stops. I’m not a mechanic, but I’m knowledgeable about how things work. I still feel like something is up with that transmission…

    The 5.0 mustangs are having the same problems. It's something to do with the motor. If I remember right it's piston slap from bad "defective" wrist pins. Not to mention 2018 the 5.0 went with plasma transfer wire arc cylinder liners, and a bunch of other stuff. I have a mustang and it has a little rattle noise between 2K, 3k rpms.

    Four weeks ago I traded in my 2018 F150 5.0 / 10 spd and went back to a 2016 F150 5.0 / 6 spd for the reasons you and others (Z A) have noted. Three dealers assured me all was well with the transmission and it was only the engine "lugging" based on the gear and rpm combination.one of my previous nine F150's had the issue. In addition the stop/start feature was annoying. My 2016 is smooth and quiet. An expensive way to resolve an issue but I love the smooth 6spd.

    Reading all this news is really making me reconsider my 2018 xlt 5.0L purchase. Im already noticing big problems with my truck. I have a crunching sound when i do on/off throttle at low speeds, hard clunking and surging with my transmission, the notorious dash hump on the passenger side, & imo huge oil consumption. About 4 qts as of today in 9,300 miles. Once a week i gotta bring it in till i hit 5,000 miles of driving. Since my last oil change ive burned 1 quart in 1,200 miles. If ford is like gm they'll claim this is normal. I paid $2,600 for an extended warranty through a dealer. If my truck one day gets lemon lawed i wonder if im out of pocket for that warranty since it wasnt through ford? I searched for a year and thought this was gonna be the best sound purchase i could make.What a nightmare myself and you guys are living.

    I've got a 2018 f150 stx 4x4 model. I recently took it in for the rattle and the transmission thud. I also complained about hesitation on a cold start. They replicated the hesitation but said it was not the engine but the transmission. But couldn't find anything wrong with the transmission. They also replicated the rattle, but Ford stated it doesn't affect the driving conditions. They could not replicate the thud. After a week of not having my truck, I picked it up. Kind of frustrated, my truck is only 4 months old and only 3500 miles.

      It's just frustrating. It's a brand new vehicle. I know they can only fix what they can replicate. But that hesitation is coming from somewhere. Funny thing is, I brought it home, and six hours later from a cold start, the engine hesitated again. And today the transmission gave me the thud noise again. The rattling is off and on but according to Ford, it doesn't affect driving. So that's never gonna get fixed.

    I had the TSB done, rattle was there the next day. This was when it first came out. Ive had it since 6000kms and I have 13k now. I've developed a knock in the motor, in the last 2 weeks I now have the typewriter tick. But yesterday I had the truck looked at, they heard the tick. Of course the knock stopped, but the tech found another new noise under the valve cover and said thats not normal. But after knowing all this the said come get your truck. We will have to see what Ford wants done about this. What??? They diagnosed at least 2 problems and weren't going to fix it? I was pissed!! So I am going to drive around, potentially harm the motor more and have a shit 60k truck!
    I decided to call another dealer, and the SM immediately said I know your problem, we have one ripped apart waiting for parts. He said when they have it back together mine is next. He said there was irregular wear in the cylinder and cylinder scoring. He seems to know his shit. He also took it upon himself to watch youtube videos of peoples problems so he could help diagnose some of the problems.

    Damn. It sounds like you have one of *those* guys at your dealership who just can't be bothered to think of how the customer feels (I had one of those for my Canyon, combined with the unresolved transmission problems they were the reason why I left it). Good that the SM is a solid guy you can depend on.
    I'm surprised (but now that I think about it, not really) the TSB didn't do anything for the rattle. It is supposed to be related to the VCT solenoid, but if they have other ideas, it might be interesting to see where that goes. The transmission TSB is, unfortunately, for pre-May 15 trucks, and just brings the older trucks up to date; it was itself an extension of the TCM reprogramming TSB for the 2017 3.5EB. The earlier programming on the 2017 3.5EBs and Q1 2018s is really, really deplorable.
    It's really frustrating that simplicity is really the one and only answer to the 2018's problems. They say you never know how good you got it until it's gone; I never gave a single thought to the 5.0 Gen2 and 6R80 because they both worked so well for me, and only now with the 5.0 Gen3 and 10R80 do I realize what I'm missing. The 10R80 does like to lug the motor, but mine is so bad that every time I'm on the highway and need to downshift from 10 to 8, the truck literally has a seizure for about a second before downshifting to 8. City driving is horrendous and the random hesitations (followed by a hard engagement into gear), audible and tangible (scary) clunks, random confusion as to what gear it wants to be in, etc........ I'm keeping an open mind before Monday's appointment, but if it doesn't solve the problem I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

    Same exact thing is happening to mine. Rattle when lifting off the throttle at low speeds when cold. Real strange shifts with delays from 3rd to 4th, 4th to 5th, and especially 3rd to 5th (only when cold). While in the shop for a fix (which did not happen) they gave me a brand new f150 loaner with 20 miles on it (2018 5.0 10 speed but from a different assembly plant) and it does the same thing. I’m starting to think it’s just an awkward tranny that takes some getting used to which is understandable since it is so modern and different, but that rattle at cold low speeds needs to be fixed it’s down right embarrassing. Love the truck but service so far has been a complete disappointment.

      I completely agree!!! With this "learning transmission" it can be reset n re-learn ur driving style which is true n also one thing I was told. I understand that but it doesnt learn to slam into a gear. It's not a manual that it learned from me slamming.

      Mine only seems to misbehave in the morning after sitting all night. (Rattle and delays in upshifts 3-4-5)After several miles when it’s warm it drives great.
      Once warm the only strange things are it does clunk on the downshifts while braking heavy to a stop.
      It also randomly clunks a few seconds after you come to a complete stop. Just sitting there at a red light for about 10 seconds and every now and then there is a faint clunk. Read on a forum that it’s the tranny resetting itself?

    Just got a 2020 F150 5.0. At around 500 miles it starting making strange erk sound when shifting at 3500-4000 rpms. Almost sounds like a gear grind in a manual transmission. Really noticeable in sport mode. Regular mode don't really hear it since it shifts at low rpms really quick. Don't really want to deal with the service department. I can deal with the noise. Just worry about long term damage.

Swapped it for a used 5.0 now just the check engine light comes on got it checked by mechanic and doesn’t see anything obstructing the way on this engine. Look so many of these complaints about the transmission are understandable because my 2018 f150 did the same thing but I was told to keep driving and the “learning” feature will correct it. It is hard to believe that it would improve but it did and it was clearly better but took 10k Miles at least. Now at 22k miles and truck is great. Love it, both motor and trans, but I do think Ford and Chevy are creating a poor impression of vehicle for a lot of people with a 10k learning transmission.

      I was told the same thing about the transmission and in some aspects it did get better but it still has the issues some of which it slams/struggles for the gear that the entire truck shakes. I have a 2019 with the rattle on cold start. I brought the dealer the TSB to have the flash done and even though they said it didn't apply to my 2019 they still updated it. Unfortunately, it seems to almost be rattling more now.
    Interestingly they left a print out of the TSB's that apply to my vehicle in the passenger seat when I picked it up. There's a 19-2093 for 2018/2019's manufactured before February 12, 2019 that supposedly addresses a rattle from the transmission housing area. It says it may be due to the torque converter studs contacting the engine to transmission spacer plate, and that spacer plate needs replaced with a new version. Not sure why they didn't bring it up with me while I was there to get a rattle addressed and am wondering if this is the root cause fix for all the folks to have the rattle where the flash has no effect.

That’s why once my 18 f150 was bought back by ford as a lemon, I went right back and got a f250 diesel. 2019 is the last year for this heavy duty 6-spd ...in 2020 they go to a heavy duty 10-speed (which doesn’t entice me at all after experiencing the light duty 10-spd). Plus the depreciation is slower in the HD lineup with the 6.7 diesel. Yes it costs more to own, but I’m so happy being away from auto start/stop and that 10-spd auto I really don’t care! Lol

    Same issues in my 18 5.0. Solenoid or valve body nose from tranny when cold & shifting @ low speed it goes zip-tic-tic-tic. Engine has a knock whether cold or hot & has developed a chirp in the accessory belts like a 100k oldsmobile! Had it in for service for 10 days..same excuses, can't hear noises (except belt chirp) even went & drove it for service mgr & he said he heard trans noise but not engine knock. I produced a recording of knock on my phone & he said yep something isn't right. They too called Ford service engineering hot line, took 3 days for answer & it was to hook up "ears" system & drive & listen for noise or vibes, if noise was from front of tranny it was supposed to be solenoid or valve body, if in back it was a clutch pack. They drove it & said no noise. After 10 days & a rental (F150 5.0 doing same thing w/ 70 miles on it) they said come & get it...no issues with engine knock, just inherent sound of direct injection mtrs, but we changed oil & it was 2 qts low? (Wasnt even due for 1st service yet) Didn't fix belt chirp. Said they ran the April TSB on the trans (truck built in August, are u kidding me pre build tsb?) & hopefully it would fix it, if not come back. Service guy even admitted that I wasn't the only one to come in with these same issues, but until FOMOCO decided to issue a recall, they couldn't do anything.... Glad I got the 100k esp warranty. I've had 3 other F150s & a GT500, & wife is on 2nd Exped. None of which have ever had an issue with, none lost more than 1/2 qt of oil even with 75k plus on them... It ran like a top till the auto start stop activated twice about the same time the light I was @ changed. Both times the engine shook very aggressively h the check engine & low oil psi light came on...Asked service guy about it h they said ecu had NO history of either light or code showing up. I have since started deactivating the A.S.S. switch every time I get in the truck.

      When I told others about this TSB they say they couldn’t find it. At the dealer they had to look up the original one and then from there it gave them another TSB, and from there it led to the new one. For some reason they couldn’t just type in the TSB number and it pop up. I guess it works that way so they try the remedies in order. The dealer said they weren’t gonna try it because that one would be such a loud bang and that the rattle on deceleration is normal for that engine. It’s a bunch of bullshit. I got fed up and traded that truck in. I now have a 2020 Tundra and it’s a night and day difference. I’ll never buy another Ford product. I hope they admit that the engine and transmission have design flaws and everyone gets their truck running right, but I honestly doubt it. Good luck man.

    I guess FORD want to lose market share. My 2018 F150 5.0 has been to Ford 4 times and every trip they could not duplicate the noise or the issues. Issue 1 engine pings with recommended fuel and it is embarrassing along side another vehicle and you have to ease up off the gas or punch it to downshift to stop. Must use 93 Oct at 1.00+ more per gallon to ease the pinging. Issue 2 when truck is cold no matter how fast could be under 5mph when you ease on the fuel peddle the transmission does a chatter and it will do it every every time until the engine is hot then it seems to be quieter. The noise is loud and will do it a 100 times if you try. Dealer can't hear it. Truck has 102k miles and from day one it was pinging, making trans noise and burning excess oil (5+ qts between full synthetic oil changes) every 1000 miles needs a qt, Ford said this is normal????. Still under prem warranty but ford can't find anything. Last trip I was told I needed both Catalytic converters at 3900,00 not under warranty. Told them it has been the pinging for years reducing the life of the cats but nothing. Truck has been good to me but Ford multiple dealer only want to say its normal or they have to replace all the parts there is no fixing anything. If anyone has had the chatter fixed please let me know.

      Nick Ruble Every brand has their problems! Ford will always have more because they sell twice as many as everyone else, and try to be ahead of everyone on features. I’m a fan of buying “the last model year run” of trucks...that’s why I bought my 2019 f250 diesel. In 2020 the tranny changes to 10-spd HD and many components of the Diesel engine change. I’m not all about that. Ram changed a lot with their 2019 Cummins engine and the duramax goes to 10-spd and completely new body for 2020. I like the last of things coming off the line. Things are settled down by this point and bugs are mostly fixed or at least known about. Keep in mind Ford sells almost 900,000 f-series trucks each year! That’s a heck of a lot of potential for issues. Imagine how quickly they have to fly out the door at their plants just to keep up! It’s hard for me to imagine being able to do it at all, really.

    My 2018 5.0 STX experiences the same noise you are describing, but are you hearing a rattling noise during smooth, consistent acceleration? Mine happens around 1500rpms to 2000 rpms between gears 3 through 6. Engine and air temp don't seem to be a factor. It doesn't make the noise at idle or if the engine is revved up in neutral. It has been to the dealership multiple times and the IWE's and related components have been checked, so that has been ruled out. I still have the very common cam phaser noise when the throttle is released after a cold start during low speeds. (TSB-18-2354) I hoping the noise during acceleration is in relation to the cam phaser as well or maybe even the VCT (could be a chain rattle). Any you have any thoughts?

    • @WICKEDAUTO1
      @WICKEDAUTO1  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      What noise exactly are hearing during acceleration?

    • @taylorsweeney2797
      @taylorsweeney2797 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds like a medal on medal tapping/chattering sound. Something close to the sound of a chain skipping. One of my buddies made the comparison to a ten speed bike chain sprocket switching gears. The cadence is very quick and not in any particular rhythm. It sounds like it is coming from the front driver side portion of the truck. Being that I still have been unable to get the dealership to fix my cam phaser noise, I hoping its in relation to that problem. I know a lot of people have complained about the cam phaser issue, so I was wondering if anyone was experiencing this as well. I'm almost to the point of taking on the buy back task inside of through parts at the truck. It already feels tainted to me.

I discovered I had only 2L of fluid in my transmission why nothing was working and had the audacity to tell me I had a pattern. No shit! It's not fixed and still there and its funny how i aint the only one with these issues. They are aware of these issues since my purchase in 2018 and th3 vct solenpid needed tk be cycles and problem has come back. Of course, they wont cover under warranty. So they are getting sued and im going after their license at the dealer here. Whats the point of a warranty and paying them 150$/hr when they don't do shit and I end up figuring out the issuea and fixing them myself. I am a female with no trainjng of experience in this!
