  • Couldn't wait to show everyone these. Got a great deal on some antique Yale padlocks. They were very crusty and needed some love. But, they cleaned up beautifully. Picking video coming sometime soon!

    Those Yale's are the type I fell in love with back as a kid, just something about them, great job. Have a great week.

    This is a serendipitous video. Just received a few awfully, terribly, totally, dirty locks just like that Yale. I have been debating how I want to attack it first. Thanks for the inspiration!

      You are welcome! Happy to inspire you. One tip, Chris Capune suggests doing another rinse with lighter fluid after the Brasso, to get things cleaned out. And, don't forget to lubricate after - everything gets dried out from the lighter fluid.

    Great job on those Yale’s! I agree with you 110%, Yale makes a damn good looking lock. You have encouraged me to get off my ass and clean mine up.

    Wow what a beautiful bunch of people I'd say you hit the jackpot, I'd love to come across a deal like that.

      Thanks, AJ! I consider myself lucky. The funny thing is that I sat on this listing for a while, when it looked like only one lock, figuring the shipping would kill me. Happy that I inquired and got it!

    Do you ever use an ultrasonic cleaner? They work wonders on gun parts. Nice videos!

      I bet that would be great. Never had access to one before - and the wife would kill me for buying one after all of my lock purchases! 😜 Maybe I could sell her in using it for her jewelry...Thanks for your input, and for watching!

    Is it possible to get a brass yale key cut for each lock , that wy you can have an all brass lock , IF you ever want to sell 1 of the all brass locks i will buy one of you anyday

      That is a wonderful idea. Might even be worth finding some classic blanks. I'll post if I end up getting anywhere.

    After rinsing what did you use to polish the dull finish. Thanks.

    • @dougpickslocks

      After rinsing they actually came up shiny. I think if I hadn’t used the abrasive sponge they would’ve still been dull. On the other side, the abrasive sponge probably took a small layer of the brass off. Like a buffing wheel

    What do u use to rinse them after cleaning

    • @dougpickslocks
      @dougpickslocks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. I just use warm water to rinse, then dry it well, and make sure to get some lube (Houdini lock lube) inside and on the outside surface. To dry better, I also usually like to warm the lock up (especially with the iron body push key locks) so it dries out, better. I put it over the gas burner (not in the flame) and warm it up enough that the water will evaporate from the crevices faster.
