  • There are many types of oils and lubricants out there and most people use WD40 or graphite powder but for padlocks it really is not all that good.
Here we look at 4 types that we have test to provide a descent amount of lubrication and also last a good while without needing to be re-applied.
Many totally seized padlocks will come back to life after a day or two after a good treatment with these lubricants.

I like Houdini lock lubricant because it cleans, protects, and lubricates locks.

3in1 will void the warranty when used on sewing machines, because it thickens up and becomes gummy after a year or so.

WD-40 for cleaning and some dedicated lube after the lock has been wiped of .

how about spraying wd-40 on a rag and wipe it on the outside of the
padlock to prevent corrosion and a teflon or graphite lubricant for the
    cylinder lock itself?

Almost useless oil, mate. Listen the video. Get a decent bike chain lubricant preferably with Teflon. Those are formulated to reduce the friction and at the same time not to absorb dust and mud which causes jammed locks.

here's something that I don't understand you say wd40 is no good but 3 in one oil is made by wd40.

+Jackcc5 He didn't say the parent company and all their products were bad, but rather that WD40 was not the best for locks. It includes more solvents and is much thinner than oil and therefore will not last as long. WD40 is good for getting things "unstuck" if slightly rusted.

+Jackcc5 Hi there. 3in1 is a much thicker lubricant. We have just found it lasts longer than WD40. Both will work but you will find you're having to keep replacing it every 3 months or so. The PS88 spray we have found lasts 8-9 months as an example.

Well that is a valid point but generally a bit old school and referred mostly to lever door locks where a dry lubricated mechanism should work fine. For padlocks, where a complex set of pins an springs are enclosed in a very tight space, there is need for lubrication and also much less chance of grit or dirt entering a keyway that faces down.
All in all, a lubricated padlock, will last longer than a non lubricated lock especially around water and the sea.

No tienes ni idea de lo que dices. Expulsa la humedad y su propiedad lubricante es momentánea como dice en el vídeo. Sirve para dificultar la oxidación (desatascar) y poco más.
