Bought a vintage libra balancing scales from a charity shop. The brass was mottled and all the weights were tarnished. Boiled them in vinegar and scrubbed with steel wool and the gleam off them is something else! Definitely the best method. But now i have high grit sandpaper coming and im gonna wet sand the brass to a mirror finish!

Aloha Tracy! Thank you. Yes, the soup is half water and half white vinegar. Boil your hardware for about 20 minutes. Scrub with 000 fine steel wool and wipe with an old towel.😊

Hi John, sorry about that. We have pretty limited time with those shorts. The hardware soup is basically simmering hardware in a solution of 1/2 white vinegar & 1/2 water for at least 20 minutes. (You can then let them soak for hours, if you want.) Next we take Bar Keeper's Friend, make a paste and an old toothbrush to loosen up most of the tarnish/crud and the follow up with very fine stool wool (#0000) and an old rag.

Hi Joanne! It is just equal parts of white vinegar and water. Boil the hardware in it for about 20 minutes, then scrub with super fine steel wool (0000).

So the winner is the one that nobody can understand what it is or what she said. That’s kind of a shame since it’s the one we would all get. No picture of the winning cleaner and no way to understand after listening to it six or seven times now.

Hi Sandy, sorry you couldn't understand what I was saying. the winner was the Hardware Soup. Here's the recipe: the soup is half water and half white vinegar. Boil your hardware for about 20 minutes. Scrub with 000 fine steel wool and wipe with an old towel. Thanks!

It’s hard to make out what she saying. Is she saying that the vinegar water method is the best?

Hi Krisitne! Yes, the viegar/water method took the least amount of scrubbing and removed the most tarnish.
