      It looks like next month is going to be the negative version. Ohhh, a scrapy version. I will have to do a computer mock up, but I will definitely include it in the next video for you.

      I am thinking I might call the next quilt "Luck of the Irish". I hope that you will like it.
      Thank you for appreciating how much work goes into these videos for me. I watch some of these professional videos like Missouri Star and I realize that they can put out one a week because they have a lot of help, with camera people, editors, staff to make samples and sew the quilts, etc. Here it is just me, myself and I.
      edit: They also have a dedicated sound stage. I have a guest bedroom turned studio and have to clear up all the sewing in order to set up the cameras. Then have to put all the filming equipment away when I want to sew again. LOL

    Thank you so much for all your videos. They have helped me really look at quilt possibilities differently. Your showing of the same pattern in multiple fabric colors allowed me to better visual what you were talking about in terms of contrast. I understood the principle but seeing it really allowed me to look at my own fabrics and get a better sense of what they would look like in a quilt.

    • @QuestioningQuilter
      @QuestioningQuilter  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I am so glad that this was helpful. This post makes me very happy. I was afraid that I was showing TOO many variations. But I had spent so much time making all the samples (to help me decide which fabrics to use) it seemed a waste not to use them in the video.
      Thank you so much for the reassurance!

    I liked the green and orange combinations the best, but they were all attractive. It was fun seeing the different background colors. I can see how the light colored fabric really changes the contrast... sometimes that more calm, muted color is what we want. But white is awesome for making the block really stand out.

    These blocks make such lovely quilts! Normally I'm not a fan of pinwheels - for some reason they "drag" my eye along the seamlines and make me think of swastikas - and doing them as a disappearing pinwheel makes a huge difference.
    Thank you for the concise lesson in value and contrast; I've just started learning about color theory and that was an excellent explanation of the terms. And then you've got so many different examples for us viewers, so we can see those terms in action. So much to think about! I will definitely be looking at my fabric stash with a different eye.
    Showing the blocks & resulting quilts with both a white background, and a softer colored background was very helpful. It would be interesting to see a quilt made with a combination; for example, if instead of orange/peach combined with medium green/light green, have orange/peach combined with medium green/white. I'm guessing it would look a little less muted that way.
    You are a marvelous teacher. I'd give this video 100 thumbs up if TH-cam allowed it, and have added it to my "choosing fabrics" playlist. Thank you again!

    Good to see you again. Really like the study of value and contrast which I don't understand. I like the patterns with the medium green and orange with white background. White backgrounds can get boring, but I think tone-on-tone whites are the answer

    Hi Brita. I'd like to see the black & white 4 leaf clovers. Plus, I always love the shout out to vets/armed forces (and those who sew them) and the red, whit, & blue versions. And I love seeing a scrappy version, too. ❤ If that's too much, any version/s you want to show is great!

    • @QuestioningQuilter
      @QuestioningQuilter  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You are the second person to ask for a scrappy version so I will most likely do that. I will have to see about how long the video is running before I make a final decision about additional version. I really try to keep these below 10 minutes. 6 to 8 minute videos seem to do best.
      Thanks so much for the kind words and suggestions.
      I really love suggestions from my viewers and I will do my best.

    There you go again, Brita! Educating us, helping us SEE and understand more, and entertaining us with your infectious joy in trying out different possibilities and analyzing outcomes.
    I’m in the group that isn’t a fan of the plain white, but this video and your explanations have helped me understand more about value. Have you ever considered using a white on white fabric instead? There are some beautiful batiks that might be interesting. I don’t think a grunge white would look very good, though.
    As always, thank you for sharing your intellect and joy.

      Thanks so much for this. I am so happy that this has helped you. Yay!
      I actually almost always use white on white fabric, but the camera doesn't pick it up. This quilt is actually uses white fabric with little white daisies.
      I agree with you about everything having a white background. Off-white, which looks great in person just ends up looking dingy on the video.
      I am so glad that you are here. Thank You!
