@@aionicthunder I get that but I'm pretty sure they can get away with it by having it at a low volume like in the original playthrough or at the very least only having a few seconds clip of it.

You forget Cale can use a Darth Maul's lightsaber to so Jedis can have dual lightsaber instead of one or two lightsabers.

I was simply talking about the Darth Maul edit they did during their first Kirby 64 commentary by reusing a scene from the Phantom Menace and putting Kirby's face and voice over Maul

Kirby has had a great transition to 3D
Honestly, Kirby had quite a natural jump to 3D. Forgotten Land feels like a natural progression of the franchise. I would assume HAL will continue bringing future Kirby games to 3D.
I would've love to see Nintendo/HAL labs release all the episodes of the Kirby anime on Switch, just a little something to celebrate Kirby's 30th anniversary this year.

Why wouldn't Nintendo just sell licenses for the Kirby anime already? With the Kirby anime's spotty release (and even 4kids' one DVD of a few episodes being long out-of-production), you'd think an American video release of the entire show would be a simple decision.
I would like to see Nintendo release another Kirby compilation featuring Air Ride, Return to Dreamland, Epic Yarn, Nightmare in Dreamland, Amazing Mirror, and various spinoffs on the SNES and Gameboy.
26:09 It is honestly hilarious hearing Ted say "Maybe not Exeggutor" when Exeggutor is arguably one of the best Pokemon in RBY. Also, Hypno is UU in RBY as well.
It may surprise people, but Psychic was actually not the most common type in RBY. Normal types ruled the roost! Tauros, Snorlax and Chansey were three of the best Pokemon, and even Persian found a niche as a sort of diet Tauros.
I think there were 3 major Psychics (Ubers excluded) in Slowbro, Alakazam, and Exeggutor for OU? Hell, Dragonite was a gimmick at best because everything just threw Blizzard onto their set because Freeze was busted
@@papershadow Yup. Another part of Dragonite’s issue was that it was entirely based on Wrap, which isn’t gonna work forever.

Also surprised to see a redo of 64 instead of super star ultra or even forgotten land, but this looks like it's gonna be a good commentary.

Can you believe it's been almost 10 years since Brainscratch first uploaded their original Kirby 64 playthrough? Man, I feel old.
Technical issues aside, the old Kirby 64 LP is still one of my favorites. Glad to see the gang playing it again, and this time with Ant in tow!
Kirby 64 has always been one of my favorite Kirby games, and a big part of that is the atmosphere. The Dark Matter Trilogy, especially Dreamland 3 and this game, just has this nice, cozy vibe that hasn't been felt since. Forgotten Land felt the most like 64 in a long time, so many of it's environment capturing that mellow vibe. It's still pretty high octane as typical of the newer games, but the atmosphere really stood out to me.
I wonder if Lewis realizes that Kirby (the character) has always been walking nightmare fuel. He's a good natured and cute ball of nightmare fuel.

I know Sakurai intentionally went out of his way to not oversee 64 AT ALL. He stayed as little involved as possible because he didn't want to accidentally say something and influence the team. His only involvement in this game was specifically voicing Dedede because the team wanted him to. As for the music in Smash... Honestly, I think that may just have more to do with Super Star sort of setting the series up for the future and most later games borrowing from it. I know Sakurai has in the past tried to limit how much Kirby gets into Smash specifically because he didn't want to put in too much of his own series in. Which, while you can argue how well he's done, it's undeniable that Kirby does definitely not get the same treatment the other big IPs do (i.e. less remixes, less stages, etc.)
Despite the audio and visual quality of older playthroughs I go back every so often to watch them or even use them as something to listen to in place of music. They still get a good chuckle or a smile here and there. Also super excited to see the playthrough of Forgotten Lands on the channel. Watching Ryan streams have been super entertaining.

What really fascinates me is that there has never, EVER been an explanation for what that pixellated thing is that Adeline drew. Nobody knows what it's supposed to be or why it's pixellated. It's not a late-game enemy that they wanted to hide spoilers of, it doesn't behave like other enemies in the game, there's no in-game files that reveal what it looks like. It's just a tiny mystery that has no explanation, comes completely out of nowhere, and has never been explained to this day.

It's definitely in part due to nostalgia but between the music and location aesthetics this is still in like my top 5 Kirby games. I giggled like such a school girl doing the Adeline guest star run

I wouldn't blame sakurai for Kirby remixes since apparently from brawl/4 onwards the composers get to choose their own remixes so that's not on him so much as smash's composers just not personally wanting to do anything from Kirby it seems. At least ultimate has a decent enough selection of Kirby songs even if they're the originals
Mouthful mode is also something from Kirby being warped across dimensions so for all we know he's only rubbery in the new land
On one hand I feel like the "secretly creepy Kirby" stuff is a biiiit played up since most of the time it's just unusual looking monsters that stand out with hidden lore or zero bleeding that one time. But on the other hand forgotten land does THE THING
Yeaaaah dream land 2 is probably my least favorite of the mainline Kirby games besides amazing mirror. I find at least 3's refined controls and the improved animal buddy system overall makes it enjoyable enough for me
For all the jokes melee actually IS one of the relatively better balanced games compared to say brawl or 4. There's still Characters who are just actually better but the species aren't just impossible to beat period

I would have thought BSC would have jumped straight to Kirby and the Forgotten Land, but Kirby 64 is a nice surprise! I actually forgot they had already done this game a decade ago. There is just something so charming and relaxing about Kirby 64. The visuals and music combine for such a pleasant experience. This game actually feels quite similar to the original Klonoa.

The talk about gaming misprints reminds me of how there were some Samus amiibos that had two arm cannons, which is pretty funny.
I think there were also some Marth and Peach amiibos that had mistakes as well.
Oh my God, the visual effects on Dark Matter actually look GOOD in this version. I have no idea why all the recent ports of this game look so awful.
Below par Nintendo 64 emulation, methinks. Even Mupen64 looks better than Virtual Console, and the N64 games on Virtual Console are an extra monthly $5.

You know, they bring up how Psychic types are the best in the game in Gen 1 but if you actually look at competitive Gen 1 it's actually Normal types that are the best.
The top 3 mons in Gen 1 that every team practically uses is Tauros, Chansey, and Snorlax. Alakazam isn't even the best Psychic type (besides the Mew's), Starmie is, then Exeggutor, then Alakazam.
Tbf that's more recent information and they probably don't follow too much competitive stuff outside of memes
The original commentary was one of the ones after they fixed the audio quality, so I’d say this is one where the original won’t be effectively replaced by the new one.

Ted talking about Gen 1 Pokémon games like psychic is the best type, but honestly it’s probably normal. Though mostly just because it has three absolute units in the type being Snorlax, Chansey, and top tier Tauros
About Sakurai being bias though Kirby music for titles he worked on... the same can kinda be said about the director for the newest generations of Kirby games starting on Return to Dream Land. If you check the remixes made for the Dream Friends when they battle Morpho Knight, the remixes for RtDL, Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot are probably twice as long as the others remixes, and I believe they also have more references in the remixes than others titles.

Kirby 64 is one of those games that I don't recommend replaying since the flaws become way more apparent. I always wondered if this game might have been a bit rushed due to the canceled N64DD since it feels like a shorter DL3

7:21 My end goal in Yugioh is to eventually own all Number Cards. 1-107. No Chaos versions required. In fact, I recently got Numbers 1-4 thanks to a lot of Maximum Gold El Dorado sets. I eventually hope to find Number 99 while Brothers of Legend is still relevant

One game i have that just so happened to be a misprint was Darksiders Warmastered Edition for Switch where for some reason it used the Nintendo Labo black box instead of the red Switch box. I wasn't even aware it was a misprint; i just assumed that's how the box was but hey! Pretty neat

Also, out of the three games in the "Dark Matter Saga", I rank Crystal Shards > Dreamland 3 > Dreamland 2. As interesting as Dreamland 3's Impressionist aesthetic is, the levels aren't as memorable and I prefer Copy Ability combinations over Kirby's Animal Friends. Also, I prefer Kirby games to be Point A to Point B with exploration rather than being forced to perform specific sidequests.

26:24 There's nothing necessarily wrong with Blue Magic for what it was initially, as a kind of extra reward for experimenting that isn't important for enjoying the main game. At least in 5 and 7, it actually serves to supplement your already good characters instead of making scuffed ones usable (Strago, Khimari, etc.). But I guess if we're talking dedicated Blue Mages, then yeah, they're usually too much trouble even in subsequent runs. Makes me wish one was given their own game to get fleshed out as the main draw (through something like Bravely Default now oc).

Can a second-party series like Kirby even be considered a flagship for Nintendo?
And speaking of gaming magazines that had walkthroughs in them, I'm reminded of Tips & Tricks. It was a magazine that had both walkthroughs and cheat codes in it. For their walkthroughs, most of them were very reliable, with the only exception being their Mega Man X7 walkthrough since it went out of order with the levels and didn't give boss weaknesses either.

I actually agree that Dream Land 2 is one of the weaker Kirby games. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I had less fun with it than most other Kirby games. I think part of it was trying to collect all the Rainbow Drops. It felt more like a chore than fun.

I believe that the developers stated in a star allies interview that they intentionally make the kirby plots start out simple but then gets near the end it gets on a grander scale that's most likely the joke seeing as how no matter how serious the situation gets Kirby mostly has the same expression 😕
