Yup. Out of context, it sounds like some bizarre nonsense, but with a college-level understanding of physics and the background the video gives, it makes total sense.
Monster Rancher had the unique gimmick of swapping out the disc to make your monsters for the PSX games.
All the N64 decompilations projects went their way to avoid using anything from the Nintendo Gigaleak in order to not be sued or to shutdown the projects. Regarding romhacks, as long as they keep the original intent of the game and translate many games unreleased here I'm ok with them. Some good rom hacks that add content that I love is the Zero Project for Mega Man X3 and Smash Remix for Super Smash Bros for the N64.
Forgotten Land sounds like it'll be an amazing comm. Looking forward to that.

Ah shit, here we go again. No, the decompiled versions of Mario 64 and the likes do NOT use anything from the gigaleak. It'd make them liable for DMCA. Since they only provide the source code, literally rebuilding the games from scratch without using anything from the original ones, and you need to use your own copy of the games as a base, they're completely safe.
I'd be fine if the return for 06 is the Project 06 game.
But it's not done yet.
I think at this point in Kirby 64 you need bring at least a power up to combine with another one to get shards in the levels if not you need to go back to a previous level to get the power up to complete the puzzle. Also double fire if I remember is very good for speedrunning Kirby 64 or something like that.

The way how he looked in Return to Dream Land looked so "bleh" to me.
Never liked how Big D looked across from RTD-Star Allies.
Im more used to/grew up with the sprites he had in NID and SSU where he was more large and chunky, but something about Kumazaki's 2D Saga Dedede always looked small and freakishly deformed.
Hot take, I don't like his Forgotten Land design. Specifically, I don't like how he never changes his outfit after being freed from the Beast Pack's control.
I thought his Star Allies model looked fine, though I do wish he had more.....expressiveness I guess? That's kinda why I like the Smash Bros design the most.

Maybe this is probably me but I swear the bomb explosion sound effect in this game sounds almost exactly like the KO explosion from Super Smash Bros. 64.

I have never really followed mods or hacks of games, but for a while, I was interested in Fire Emblem GBA hacks when I first got into Fire Emblem. Besides it being done for story reasons, I don't get why Cloud and friends, at least, don't try and revive Aerith with a Phoenix Down.
There’s a moment in Final Fantasy V where one of the party members, Galuf, dies after using all of his strength to fight off main antagonist Exdeath and save the rest of the team.
They actually try to heal him with Potions and revive him with a Phoenix Down but nothing takes.
Given that several FF games refer to defeated characters as being “KOed” or knocked out, the idea is probably that Phoenix Downs can only revive the unconscious rather than raise the dead.
@@cyrushalberd624 That is an understandable interpretation. At least in Galuf's case, he keeps fighting after his health drops down to zero. So, it could be assumed that he died from sheer exhaustion from fighting Exdeath and pushing himself beyond what he is capable of doing.

I don't know how you're able to guess that from what the game tells you, which is 2/5ths of fuck all.
I would’ve objected to a revisit commentary on 06 as the original is very nostalgic & doing it again wouldn’t have been that great, however hearing that it would be P-06 I’d be down to watch that.

I recommend Kaze Emanuar's Mario 64 videos. That guy's been making Mario 64's models and textures look better, improving the wall collision, and tons of other stuff, all while making the game less hardware-intensive. Not a single change Kaze has made has hurt the game's performance.

Stage 2 in Neo Star sucks if you're going for all the shards. It forces you to stick with one of the worst abilities in the game for the whole level, and it isn't even found in the level itself
As someone who boasts about my great English skills (as a Dane), I felt the same defeat as Ted when I went to get tested for covid one day. The woman who handed me my test thingy spoke English, so I replied in English and of course then assumed that the whole staff was English (perhaps foreign workers who'd been called in to fill in for lack of man power). I then walked over to the guy who was going to test me, who also speaks English to me because he heard me speak English to the woman, but he then breaks into Danish saying "you're Danish, aren't you?" aka "your Danish (accent) is so horrible I could immediately tell your first language wasn't English". Again, never have I been so defeated.

Since we're talking about rom hacks, one rom hack that I think is funny is one for Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy that starts after the timeskip. The hack added Arden, an armor knight from the first half of the game, as a unit because maps in the game are huge and it pokes fun that he would've been left behind for being too slow to keep up.
Since you mentioned decompiling games, I should mentioned this. There's a guy on TH-cam named Kaze Emanuar who decompiled N64 into what looks like C code and then optimized the entire game. In one of his videos, the framerate was consistently above 30 fps but more like above 40 fps. His goal is 60.

Also, while I have the chance to mention it, FNAF Security Breach has an insane speedrunning community. That game is so glitchy, you can speedrun it _backwards._ I don't mean you run backwards all the way (Though that's a thing too), I mean you can beat all the bosses in _reverse order._

The decompiled versions of Mario 64 and OOT and such don't use the source code from the giga leak, there would be no way those versions of those games would be allowed to exist if they used the og source code.

When we're talking about hacks, I think that one of the best out there is Fire Emblem scene. You do have rebalance hacks and the like with like, Project Ember, but there are also so many original hacks out there that pretty much just use Fire Emblem as a base and make completely new stories and characters. Mostly on the GBA side of things though.
Pretty sure most hacks use GBA as a base in general because 2D games are just lot easier to make than 3D 1s obviously, with like the only 3D hack I've seen someones do in FE was some guy trying to remake FE1 in Fates.
@@V-Jes Absolutely. Not that hacking is completely absent from the 3DS and console FE games, it's just mostly on GBA. Which I can attest to is a rather easy form of rom hacking.
The Dreamcast really is the best console version of Rayman 2, but I'd still argue the PC version is the best version mainly due to enhancement mods. There are PC mods that fix performance issues and allow for HD textures that make the game look and run smoother!
Though, if you're going to play Rayman 2, avoid the DS, PS1 and 3DS versions. The 3DS is basically a watered down version of the Dreamcast game, but with added bugs and performance issues.

I mean Ted is not technically wrong when he says that if you change but a single thing about a game (rom, hack, mod) it ain't the same original game anymore. But is also being way too extreme. When Johnny say that if you change the story is it really Sonic 06 anymore, we all (aside from Ted) knew perfectly well what he meant. If you change too much about something, it feels like something else entirely, whereas if you take Sonic 06 and just change the running speed and update the textures or whatever, it is still, at its core, Sonic 06, albeit a modified version.
Sonic Delta 40mb is a flat-out work of technical wizardry, since neto/Esrael was making it with crazy assembly tinkering, and it can use the S3K save mechanic even for S1/S2 zones.
Can we bring back the running gag of Ryan yelling at Ted "YOU HAVE A PS3" but for PS4?

Although now that I think about it, both the 06 & Generations commentaries are _really_ old, back when BSC still used language that’s frankly uncomfortable to re-listen and wouldn’t fly nowadays (even if it weren’t for that pesky algorithm)
The best ROM hacks are unsurprisingly the rarest, the ones that essentially make a whole new game using the original as a base. Newer Super Mario Bros Wii is what comes to mind, over a hundred brand new levels, almost entirely original graphics and music, original bosses, it's a better game than the original in nearly every single way.
Okay. Hear me out. Take Sonic '06, and just replace Elise with Tiara Boobowski from the cancelled Sonic X-treme.
Or, alternatively, turn her into a goddamn hedgehog.

On the topic of ROM hacks one of my favorite ones are the mod of balance for Final fantasy dawn of souls, there are two versions 2.2 where it keeps the main style of the original game with some rebalance but it's 3.5 that's pretty neat, it overhauls the class system allowing you to pick from 12 classes at the start and introducing new spells and items along with major rebalancing of the games enemies, it's a little rough but if you enjoy FF1 it's pretty fun. Also FF2 get some minor rebalancing to make leveling up easier.

I enjoy when there are hacks that make a game "better" or more palatable than the vanilla version. I actually created my own hack of Pikmin 2 called "Diet Pikmin 2" to make the game more accessible to Pikmin newcomers as the game is notoriously difficult to a casual Pikmin players. The new caves I created aren't nearly as punishing or long as the vanilla ones to make it less tedious and more fun.

yes, kinda. thing is the Debug screen was actually the game crashing but in order to ship the game in time & pass certification they coded the Debug Menu as a crash screen

Pc games in the 90s is why in the 2020s my brain still goes right right games are okay on pc now. I will always be a console guy just cause when someone saysbpc gaming I think back to trying to get Sonic collection on windows working on a pc that came out the same year that disc did and the game played like hot garbage unless I was in the speical stages then it was almost as smooth as Genesis.

People are always singing the praises of PC Gaming but always downplay just how much MONEY is required to keep these machines working right and up to date.
