JoyCon Connection Problems! Can It Be Fixed?

  • The Joycons seem to be having connection issues as shown by Gamexplain. The connection seems to be interrupted by our body or distance from the unit. This doesn't seem to be the whole story since the signal strength outlined in the FCC Filings seem to be strong enough to penetrate tissue.

    So...basically...has anybody tried turning it off and on again?

    • @AndrewO83
      @AndrewO83 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I just thought of that too! Turn it off, then on...BUT DON'T attach the joycons to the Switch. Hopefully they should remain in a high-powered state. I mean it's a bandaid solution, and a fix should still happen.

    It's been confirmed by two sources, one by a guy named Stealth who broke the news about Zelda being a launch title, and Kotaku that Nintendo's already working on getting it fixed. I should also mention that GoNintendo stated he did the same thing as GameXPlain, covered up the Joycons and put them behind his back, and they still worked fine. So it may just be something buggy with these certain Joycons.

      It's either a software bug or the shipment wave delivered to reviewers was defective, so it shouldn't be a problem with the commercial Switch consoles, I think.

    My dualshock 4 definitely looses connection sometimes when I cross my legs and it's deep in my lap. You will cause attenuation to every Bluetooth device when you put an obstacle in its way.
    It all depends on how far you are from the console and what other devices are using the same band in the vicinity. The more BT and WiFi 2.4 GHz devices are around you the more errors you get.
    If someone doesn't experience this it only means their area does not have a lot of other signals. The antenna in regular controllers is also much bigger than the one in the tiny joy-con.

  • @praxisvoiceworks
    @praxisvoiceworks 7 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    I think you've hit the nail on the head buddy. This is precisely what I was thinking the problem is and I do hope Nintendo jumps on this immediately and also is vocal about their remedy and doesn't remain silent like they usually do!

    • @praxisvoiceworks
      @praxisvoiceworks 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fernando Banda Yeah, can't find any official press releases about that. Been looking. And "official word" from somebody on Neogaf does not make something official. Not saying that's what you are saying. ;)
      My point was that Nintendo needs to get right out in front of this problem and address it quickly and very publically so that rumors don't go flying around out of control and cause idiots to panic and potentially harm the Switch's reputation.

    The JoyCon should be wired when connected because:
    1. You are able to sync them to the console by connecting them, this would probably the easiest when they are wired so they can tranfer data
    2. You are only able to enter flight mode when you have them connected to the console (at least that is what I have seen in a video by some youtuber, sorry can't give a source :( ). This would be because they disable all wireless capability when flight mode is turned on (including Bluetooth) so the only way you could continue playing would be if they are wired when connected.

    • @fernandobanda5734
      @fernandobanda5734 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Dennis I was thinking the same thing about flight mode.

    • @fixman88
      @fixman88 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Playing while in Airplane Mode is a very valid point, also if they need to update the Joycon firmware (for instance to fix an issue where they aren't connecting *cough*) they would need a direct physical connection, so i'm sure they thought of that and it's most likely part of the charging connection, similar to USB).

    • @RedstoneLetsPlay
      @RedstoneLetsPlay 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes that is true but you are not required to have airplane mode during the whole flight (at least now), only during takeoff and landing so you can use bluetooth while in-flight

    • @colin3ds1
      @colin3ds1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      maybe they tried to make the console safe for planes so they made the Joycon connection weaker and it bugged out so that the joycon think they are in airplane mode when they aren't so maybe in the patch it will be fixed

    It makes sense that when the Joy-Cons are attached to the system, they still are wirelessly connected via Bluetooth, but they use lower power for transmission to save battery. Then if there's a software problem which causes them to not "switch" back to higher-power mode when they are removed from the system, there you go.

    My joycons just disconnected and reconnected four times in less than a minute, I took it as a sign to get back on my phone. I wasn't covering the joy cons, I took off the protective case on the screen, and it didn't help. Eventually I got them working for two seconds and saved the game, then forced a shut off.

    After my original controllers started to drift, I have gotten 3 new pairs, and EVERY pair except the original has conection issues. The last one I got was 5 years after release, and it still isn't fixed smh.

      Nikki K no they didn't. Nintendo have only said the day one patch is for eshop and other things. Fixing this wasn't mentioned

      Eh, just overheard it from some other guy lol, and anyways i was just readingthe articles about the joycons, not all of them are having issiues, the ones that were sent to the press in NY have not had any problems. I think people are making a big deal out of this. PS3 controllers the syncing issiues too at launch. Im personally worried too much about it, especiailly since it looks like the de syncings are not a universal phenomenon

    Had this problem with my Switch that was 3 days old. Right side joycon disconnecting constantly. After lots of videos saying update console and controller software the thing that made the difference was turning off my ps4. We had played the Switch consistently since Christmas and only just turned on the ps4. Then when we went back to the Switch the ps4 (and controller was still on) we started having issues with the joycon. Only thing I can think is that the Bluetooth was interfering with each other.

    I just don't get this. How on earth can this not have come up in all the nintendo tests before launch. Thank goodness I've ordered the Pro Controller so won't be relying on joycons.

    I fixed the right joystick and it now disconnects if it’s not within half a meter of the console

    Is there any game on swtich where you need to play behind your back ? if not then it seems i will not have problem with Switch

    I also thought it low power state issue as well. To tell you the truth who the heck plays a game with the controller behind their back anyway or cover up the controller while playing a game. I think some people are nitpicking at the Switch and coming up with silly things.

      TECHSTACKER Covering the controllers, at least a little, should actually be extremely common with detachable controls that use motion controls. People haven't found this out because they were experimenting. They did because it did happen a few times during gameplay.

    Nintendo gave these units out because they wanted to test out any kinks. Smart move Big N!

    actually, there is evidence the joy con was giving connectivity issues at one of the Switch events. The person was playing Mario Kart 8 deluxe on stage when it became difficult for them to turn.

    ... or people could play holding the controller normally. Not behind their back or bear hugging it. normally. why didn't we hear about this during the various switch demonstrations?
