GFRIEND 😭🩵 if Seventeen are the most synchronized boy group in kpop history, GFriend is their equivalent! and their music is so damn good and you can see the journey thru the rest of their songs!
I agree with you (although Dreamcatcher comes close). The amount of time they spent working on such iconic choreos to get everything synchronized must have been long (even the hand movements are insane).

We were robbed of the mature version of Gfriend by the decision to end the group. There was so much more they could have done together.
Mago was my favourite kpop song from 2020! Such a masterpiece ^^

Finally Gfriend! One of the cleanest dancing groups, the choreography is fantastic, incredible vocals, and a bunch of funny dorks. ❤️❤️ Also red hair sinB in apple 💀
Mago was the first song I heard from them. I didn’t realize it was their last. 😢 I began to tune into all their songs and I realized how much I missed out. 😭
However, I’m glad I was around for Viviz debut and I will continue to support that group in any way I can.
While I'm glad Viviz is having success, I have to admit that I am a little ... underwhelmed by Viviz's songs (although Maniac is definitely a leap forward in songwriting.) Even their time on Queendom was a little lacking. But they are so talented and experienced I will continue to support them and expect continued improvement.
@@jamesrawlins735 Yeah, Maniac was the first release from Viviz that I felt was on par with Gfriend's progression into Apple and Mago. If they can keep putting out stuff as good as that and Untie (one of my favorite bsides of the year), I might start calling myself a fan.
It seems that you are very successful in crafting this whiplash by choosing the first two and last two songs of Gfriend in this reaction video. It's entertaining to see how you basically grinned through the first two MVs, and repeatedly stunned into silence in the next two. Yes, the girls have travelled long and far in their music journey.
It's interesting you mentioned how Gfriend's early songs made you feel nostalgic with their concept, not something one often senses when watching MVs of the so-called cute songs of Kpop. Gfriend offers something genuine and endearing with their early concept popularly known as "Powerful Innocence", in which one feels positive for the future while enjoying the youthful energy of the present. Gfriend's delivery of songs of this era brings back memories from our younger days. Every time I watched their early MVs reminds me of the time when I was a teenager.
There is a deep-rooted lore embedded in the Gfriend tracks. Not to spoil the fun too much, the last two songs stood to represent how the Gfriend girls accept (not succumb to) their own desire (rather than temptation as symbolized by the title Apple) and takes ownership of the reign of their own realm as shown at the end of MV. As for Mago, which could be interpreted as the Korean deity who helped the creation of the world), the girls become their own master in choosing their own path like the deity.
If you plan to do more Gfriend reactions, you must not miss "Rough" and "Navillera", two of their most decorated songs in terms of music show wins during their peak era. I think you should also consider "Fingertip", a tune that injected funk into their sound for the first time. I'd also want to mention "Sunrise", which is true vocal feast from Gfriend. However, I'd enjoy your selection regardless of your pick.

"Mago" is Spanish for "magician." The lyrics use magic as a motif. Also, Umji's line "6960 magic" refers to the Witches Broom Nebula (NGC 6960); evidently some lyricist is into astronomy.
Gfriend are known as great dancers who execute their "power innocence" choreography with "knife-like precision." You ought to check out their dance practice videos. Then check out the blindfolded "Mago" dance practice video. Then check out their 2x Random Play Dances on "Weekly Idol."
I mean, their lyricists used to do serious research to make their songs be profound. Poetry, astronomy, philosophy -- you name it. I respect this so much.
The girl in the Pink and black & on the pole is the one that did the high notes in the old songs! That's Yuju! some of the best vocals in the business :D she's put out a few solo songs!

Yes thank you VIVIZ and Kany who created their latest choreography. So many new fans have discovered them during Maniac and Untie and are now starting to check out GFriend for the very first time. That makes me so happy 😀.
I miss Gfriend 🥲 Thank you for reacting to their music. I love these girls so much. Their music was what brought me to the fandom. It was just so unique and it stood out among their generation. Whilst everyone was releasing dance/edm type of music(which there’s nothing wrong at all!), Gfriend was doing sentimental/youthful, powerful innocent concepts. I just love it! And it fits their age too! ❤️
As a Buddy from almost the start (Glass Bead was just ok for me but it was Me Gustas Tu and Rough that hooked me) I really do miss them. I keep hoping some company will find a way to bring them back. While I do love Maniac, I must say Viviz's songs are a little - lacking.

You should react to Rough! It was their second comeback after Me Gustas Tu and an end to the trilogy and got them their first win, I think they ended up getting 15 wins with it !

I‘m not a Gfriend stan but I can definitely recommend Time for the moon night and Rough. Tftmn was my first Gfriend Song I‘ve heard. Both have a very Anime Opening Vibe.
I was surprised that everyone are interested with Gfriend. This group are one of a kind, all the songs and besides are the best. Once you watch them from the beginning you will keep on stanning them. All the songs are connected and tells stories, from glass bead to mago. you may check that out. There is an early reference in the lyrics of Apple to a glass bead turning red, referencing back to their first song Glass Bead. Also, the butterflies in the Apple video are symbolic of renewal. Finally, the tree on fire is representative of Walpurgis Night, which is the name of their final album and of an annual ceremony throughout Europe occurring around May Day and involves the burning of a bonfire or pyre to Saint Walpurga.
Watch their dance practice it's really satisfying, GFriend is known for their synchronization believe me!!!

1st girl in tunnel is Sowon, blonde with hair dryer Yerin, pole girl Yuju can hit some mean notes Sinb is the short hair, your 3 BBG girls were together popping up in that 3some part, Eunha then Umji with Sinb coming in, sadly Mago was their finale to this day we still don't know why so you are aware the 3 BBG girls get their group name from their real and stage names ie Eunha n Sinbs names are Eunbi x2,(Bi Bi), Yewon ie stage name Umji (Ji) said together as BBG which is what they call their group name as. Gfreind as a group saved their company from going bankrupt their music is very iconic and filled with beautiful sounds and vocals, their harmony is so good

Watching Gfriend's MVs really still makes me emotional. What I love about them is their songs is always full of surprises. Plus until now my dad still uses the intro for Mago as his phone ringtone. Anyways, thank you for reacting to Gfriend!
I think I speak for most people when I say that their disbandment was a complete shock. For the fans and for the members too. Viviz + Yuju and Yerin as soloists are great but I still yearn for the day that Gfriend can properly reunite. At least Source Music have lost the trademark to the Gfriend name, so there's some hope!
If you do a part 2, I recommend Rough, Fingertip, Time for the Moon Night (my personal favourite) and Crossroads!
And if you want to check out some solo stuff, you could combine Yuju and Yerin into one video since they both don't have a ton of stuff yet. Something like Play and Dalala from Yuju + Aria and Bambambam from Yerin would be pretty cool :)

Yuju is the one doing the high notes. She is also the pole dancer in MAGO. SinB is the girl with red hair in Apple. SinB had the Bobbed haircut in MAGO.
Eunha was the stunning one with the blonde hair. Sowon was who ripped of the suit and had the sparkly dress in MAGO.

PLEASE check out their performance MVs and dance practices! Those were really what made me become a buddy, their dances are hypnotizing!
and you basically nailed within the first 2 songs what the classic GFRIEND is. GFRIEND is the ultra rare kpop group that created their own sound/visual that no one else has or can even copy. When you hear a GFRIEND song, you know it's a GFRIEND song (lots of anime chord structures [just a lot of complex jazz chord structures in general], lots of crazy key changes and modulations, lots of string and piano counterpoint underneath the verse or chorus, the driving rhythm, the occasional screeching guitar) and you know GFRIEND choreo when you see it (insanely synchronized, very feminine, very pure) and GFRIEND visual (very hazy/dreamlike videos, school girl, girl friendship vibe, very innocent). GFRIEND truly was a very special group. And yes, Yuju is one of the best main vocalists period.....her belting is insane

It's interesting to see Glass Bead and Megustas Tu, Apple and Mago. It was my first time seeing this in sequence that I have seen the contrast between the MVs.
Looking back to GFRIEND's career, the concept switch was barely noticeable since they have done it in a gradual manner so it came natural and not forced.

It's a very must to watch their dance practices. While I became a fan because of their music, their dance practices really pulled me in, and even until now when I hear their music, my body still remembers the moves and grooves. also, a few additional infos: the girl belting in glass bead + me gustas tu is the main vocalist yuju (the one with the butterfly and smoke in apple and on the pole dance in mago!). eunha had medium blonde hair through both apple and mago. the one with the short black hair in mago is sinb (she had the STUNNING red hair in apple). the one you thought was the main vocalist, all dressed in black in mago, is actually sowon, their leader. finally, yerin (the face of the group) had long blonde hair in the last two mvs! umji you already knew pretty well 👐 hope I was able to help :)

GFRIEND are known for their choreography synchronization they are always on point!! And what made them get popular was their Me Gustas Tu performance were Yuju and SinB fell so many times but still managed to get up and complete the show under the rain on a slippery stage

Thank you for your reaction to GFriend. I have been eagerly awaiting it once you mentioned you were going to do one. They grew up so much in the 5 years between these music videos from teenagers to mature, confident women. If you react to a full guide you will have more success at recognising them and hear how distinct each of their voices are. I recommend a subpar Guide to GFriend as one of the best along with A Guide to GFriend 2020.
Gfreind have not disbanded according to each individual member. They have plans to come together and produce new tracks. The recently managed to retain the gfriend name after Hybe music tried to get ownership. Look out for the video of gfreind dancing at twice the speed. It is something they did as a challenge. stay safe J.
