Gfriend does have a tendency to hide members behind another. And to be honest, I don't have a problem with it since 1. the person being hidden isn't always the same. and 2. they always find a clean looking transition where the person being hidden comes out in the center or another part of the formation and sings their part. You mentioned Everglow in another person's comment and I just wanna say that's a good point you made, but you gotta factor in that Gfriend are mostly known for synchronization and slick transitions, their choreographers probably value symmetry to uphold those qualities. I've seen Everglow's dances and they definitely do not hold those same standards so I feel it's not a fair comparison. I'm not a professional choreographer or anything but I think not many of them know how to forget symmetry when they have to think about Gfriend's standard of dance. Edit: Actually if I remember correctly, their new songs Crossroads and Labyrinth introduced some new formations that we haven't seen from them. And I'm gonna throw Time for the moon night in there as well
Did you know? Gfriend didn't have official choreographer working for the company. An independent choreographer only helps them by sending a video and Gfriend will study, rearrange, and perfect it on their own all thanks to main dancer Sinb.
I will say, ever since the first time you mentioned the “hiding a member” all I think about is Gfriend’s choreo because they do have a tendency to hide a member in the back. On the bright side, they always rotate who’s in the back so it’s not always the same person who’s hidden? But I guess every dancer has their own pet peeve so its fine. Their dances are still cool but I definitely pay attention more to "hidden members" now. When Gfriend first came out, they were known for having sharp knife-like synchronized choreography despite being a cuter/more innocent group (which usually has like softer more girly looking dances I guess?). They may not always have hard dance moves but Gfriend is always very sharp and synchronized to one another and their transitions are so smooth. Apparently what Gfriend would do to perfect the syncronization is record their dance, then watch it and pausing frame by frame to make sure every movement is in the same spot for everyone, every angle is the same, even the swooshing of their skirts. They were so meticulous with the synchronization and rehearsed their dances so much that they have actually done Me Gustas Tu choreo BLINDFOLDED, and did it with minimal damage. Also the one that did the that full turn in Rough after the first chorus is their Main Vocalist Yuju, also the one who did the split under Umji’s legs in Me Gustas Tu and the crazy high notes in both songs, she has a figure skating background, Just thought I’d add that :) Next Gfriend choreographies you should react to when you get the chance: Love Whisper, and Sunrise
I didnt realize that yuju was a figure skater! I can definitely see that though! Also i didnt know they also did the pausing frame by frame thing! That makes sense for how synchronized they are! Jyp groups also do that (at least itzy does because jyp said they did)
While it might not be difficult dance moves like other groups, mainly male groups & if the females wear heels, knife-like synchronized Choreography is also, in itself, difficult to master.
Another thing is that SinB learns the Choreography first then teaches the others, on top of, when they're learning a Choreography they'll have the song that they're learning the Choreography for playing AND said song will be on repeat. That way, when the song ends they'll have a few seconds to breathe & then get back into starting position.
Another technique they use to get perfect synchronisation is to break it down into small chunks and name each one. For Fever they had for example a gorilla dance and a compass dance within the choreography. Each section is played continuously on a loop with SinB constantly monitoring everyone whilst dancing herself. A video exists showing SinB helping everyone perfect the dance.
Gfriend once explained how they practice during promotions. They said that they dance the song 6 times in a row and the last time they sing it at the same time as they are dancing and they do that morning, after lunch and evening
Yep, they'll have the Song that they're learning the Choreography for on repeat. That way, even though they'll have a few seconds to breathe/relax, they'll have to almost immediately get back into the starting position.
Finally dance majors get to Gfriend dances! A Girl Group that made themselves known for sophisticated, synchronized choreographies! I hope to see more reactions to their dances! I’d recommend sunrise, love whisper and time for the moon night, also Crossroads!!
Shes already have labyrinth and crossroads I think. So tftmn, sunrise and love whisper that I'm waiting. I love to see her reaction to it ,specially love whisper.
It's finally here!! I really appreciate the time you take to really go into detail about the dance and formations and such ^^ thank you for this video!
Gfriend is known for having intricate and powerful choreos, crazy footworks, graceful spins, fresh ideas on formations, and most importantly, commendable teamwork and precision of steps.
I still think Love Whisper has the choreo that manages to make everyone's jaw drop every time they do a turn, it's enchanting. Glass Bead is the dance that has a high kick worthy an award.
On the leap-frog maneuver in Me Gustas Tu: Yuju said the choreographer had asked them to just dance to the music, and that came out of their messing around. She also said the hard part was actually getting back up quickly. On stage, there are two mike switches before and after, which makes things more hectic. Yuju wears a knee pad just for this maneuver, but is also shown wearing one in the M/V outdoors.
Yep, and that maneuver is also aided by the respective heights of the 3 members involved. Because others have attempted it & failed, mainly due to being out of sync but also because of height difference (compared to the 3 members of GFriend)
Gfriend's dance practice videos feel even more special with the lyrics...because their moves portray the lyrics so well (not just sentences but the words) and suit the atmosphere of the song. At first, I just enjoy the dance the way it is but now I learn basic Korean, seeing the dance amazes me in different way...the impact is just wow.
It's not really hide a member. It would be on a stage, especially full stage, even audience from the back of formation can see the 'hidden member'. They shows a 360 performance experience. Especially when you go for their concert or shows.
Sunrise and summer rain like embody elegance and have beautiful formations, and tftmn and love whisper look a bit more complicated(since I don't know a lot about dance, but they said love whisper is one of their hardest dances) Glass bead is also very pleasing to watch, but my favourite dance would be sunny summer. It's not hard per say, but the chorus is really easy to follow along with and it focuses on hand movements a bit more then whole body or foot movements. Plus I just like the song.
I don't know but, for me their formation regarding hiding a member its part of the choreo, mostly a member that position is on the back is preparing her part to be the next center. I've been a buddy since Me Gustas Tu era, and their is no issue to us buddies in their dance positioning at all.
Girls Generation stopped promoting frequently after 2015 and Gfriend debuted in the beginning of 2015 so they promoted together frequently within one year but Gfriend wasn't that big yet. But yes, Gitls' Generation's early style is a lot like Gfriend now
9:20 haha that is a very yuju thing lol. When she does high note 99% of the time she points up the whole time XD whereas eunha "slides" her hand down as she does the note. Lol
I really love this! Gfriend is known for their knife-like dances and i rly love how you break down their moves itvs very interesting. I would like to see you react to Glass Bead and Love Whisper (which Gfriend claims to be the hardest choreo and it was made by BTS' choreographer too!)❤
Lol I was waiting for your gfriend reaction . So I thought I go watch gfriend me Gustas tu dance practice to entertain myself . But then I see you reacted to it . What an coincidence. Also I am seeing you fan girling being buddy is the hardest so you know because these girls don’t stop hitting us with dances vocals and just being funny .
I got to know them on the mid 2018. I kept strolling TH-cam to find a good dance step to complete my rhythmic gymnastics routine, and then I found me gustas tu dance practice. I just fell in love with them unconditionally.
It's nice to see dancers reacting to dance practices than people who just go wild with the videos lol. I mean, those are not bad but it's more interesting to watch someone who really knows what he/she is talking about. ☺☺☺
I am a Buddy who loves GFriend so I loved hearing your reaction. I also watched your Everglow dance cover today and was blown away by how talented you are. I loved that you wore normal clothes rather than a dance outfit as it was so much more appropriate for a KPop dance cover. Please could you do a dance cover of GFriend’s Rough seeing as you love 💕 the song. That would be awesome 😎.
the tik tok dance move you mentioned was actually first used hy T-ARA in "Lovey Dovey" back in 2011, which became sensational and the move actually inspired one of the first kpop dance covers that have become such an important piece of kpop culture now
I think the reason they "hide" members is that the formations of the dance has a 3rd dimension to it. ie they can be viewed from above and it reveals some hidden meanings.
Me gustas tu was actually what got me into gfriend because the dance is so crazy and the song is catchy! They came out like maybe at most a month after i got into kpop in late march 2015 and was one of (if not the) first girl group I stanned
I had no idea what half the terms you used meant- but I loved your reaction and how you explained everything, and actually took the time to admire every little bit of the the choreography! I really hope you react to GFRIEND’s choreographies more ^^ Some recommendations I feel would be good are Labyrinth, Glass Bead, Navillera, Time for the Moon Night, and Sunrise. I look forward to your other videos as well, though!
Gfriend are the queens of dance synchronization, If you want to be impress then watch and react to their 2x on weekly idol because they made a name for themselves due to it.
I think fingertip and love whisper of gfriend, are their most difficult choreo? It would be great, if you could please react to them, if you haven’t :)
First of all, thank u thank u thank u for reacting to gfriend! I really loves the way u explain the “technique” of the dances, and your reaction is sooo cute like idk I really love it. Please do more reaction of gfriend’s dance!💜
hi grace actually i love watching ur reaction to gfriend dance. i love the way you are not only talk abt how beautiful or cool the dance move is, but you also tell us the viewers abt some basic information about dance and it's really cool. actually as a buddy sometimes i also a lil bit disappointed with the hiding member system, but as long as it's not the same member for the whole song i think it's okay bc at the other time the member will get the centre position. actually i wish another gfriend reaction from you. so please let me drop here about their works 1. glass bead (2015, debut song, the first time i watch the dance i cant believe it's a debut song from a rookie group) 2. me gustas tu (2015, 1st comeback, you already reacted) 3. rough (2016, you already reacted) 4. navillera (2016, there's no official dance practice video but there's one but it doesn't look really proper one like they recorded it use a phone but u can still watch it) 5. fingertip (2017, the time they changed their concept into funky cool girls) 6. love whisper (2017, THEY CLAIMED IT AS THEIR HARDEST. they easily get exhausted everytime doing the dances. i hope you react to this and give us ur opinion why they call it as their hardest) 7. summer rain (2017, like the sad version of love whisper, sampled a classic song and some ballet influences, same with navillera it doesnt have the official dance practice where they dance on the practice room, but the choreography video on their mv set are pretty decent to watch) 8. time for the moon night (2018, the coolest i think. i hope you read the lyrics first then watch the dances bc i feel like they dance to tell the story behind the song) 9. sunny summer (2018, their easiest choreo but still hard for me lol) 10. sunrise (2019, someone said that this song has the most formation-changing idk the phrase lol) 11. fever (2019, their first edm track) 12. crossroads (2020, you already reacted to it) 13. labyrinth (2020, the b-side of crossroads. they danced with many female dancers. i highly recommend it bc it's really different from their others choreography) so that's it. again, thank you for reacting to gfriend. i hope i could watch other gfriend's content from ur channel! see you!
One more comment! Lol but me gustas tu was pretty much how gfriend got popular at first at least. Me gustas tu was their first comeback after debut and there was a fancam that went viral where a member (cant remember who it was unfortunately sorry) kept falling during this dance on a wet stage
Aaccckk... youre too cute while reacting to my Bias GG.. gfriend.. thnks for this.. Where same thought about SNSD vibe... thats why i love this Gfriend
I watched some dancers react to kpop, i have to say that a lot of them said that gfriend have a lot of tecnique and that even if you think their choreo is easy they are not, because the transitions and syncronization. Some of the reasons of why i love gfriend is because their vocals, personality and their choreos (They are always so beautiful and so pleasing to watch)
thank you so much, for reacting to gfriend, they have many amazing choreos, i recommend you navillera, love whisper and for something more recent their, bside labyrinth
I kind of like when they hide a member because they either transition to the front when you couldn’t see them before, or you get to see how in synch they are while just seeing a shadow when it’s another person..
about the hidden member , they either rotated or the behind member will be slightly left or right (not really at the center). thank you for the reaction and i hope you can react to other of their dances too
I get why you don't like the "hiding a member thing", but it's kinda annoying that you bring it up so often. it's been happening in k-pop for a long time and the choreographers don't see it as a bad thing( since they keep doing it). My frame of reference is different so I just don't find it that bad
I do agree that GFriend is very like SNSD, although I see it more in song themes and how they use vocals. Their first recorded interaction was on Sunny's FM Date live special "For Guys Only" on Feb 14, 2015, just a month after GFriend debuted. Sunny induced Sowon to say they'd been compared to SNSD, and Sunny said they certainly looked like them. I think the similarities are a matter of how they were recruited, and are quite deliberate.
Girls Generation technically stopped performing in 2017, and GFriend formed in 2015... however they're run by two different companies. SNSD/Girl's Generation was run by SM Entertainment and GFriend is run by Source Music. They probably took inspiration from SNSD, like most K-Pop girl groups do, just like K-Pop guy groups take inspiration from EXO and other big-time groups. So it wouldn't surprise me that they have aspects of SNSD in their dances, but redone for them.
I felt really proud knowing the ballet names Im brazilian so i only know dance terms in portuguese so i keep trying to figure it out by how she explains them But in ballet they are always in french
me gustas tu was before rough so i guess they learned to not hide members?? also have you seen the 2x speed dances? do you have opinions? ps. search me gustas tu 150905
I hope you'll react to their dance practice more. And I do understand you about the hidden members thing because they do tend to hid a member in their choreography
Gfriend does have a tendency to hide members behind another. I completely agree honestly I think it’s fine
They have dinamic formations
its hecause theyre six and, if theres no member hidden, then there wouldnt be a center
Also it’s just almost impossible for a 6-member group to not hide a member behind another. Even Everglow do that a lot in their choreographies too
😍💕
Did you know?
Gfriend didn't have official choreographer working for the company. An independent choreographer only helps them by sending a video and Gfriend will study, rearrange, and perfect it on their own all thanks to main dancer Sinb.
Stan TALENT
OMG is that true?
Want to see high kick from GFRIEND ? Let see glassbead dance
I associate that one with SNSD Into the New World. But GFriend does it better.
@@icollectstories5702 agree

Me gustas tu - The legend of choreography
Gfriend is known for having intricate and powerful choreos, crazy footworks, graceful spins, fresh ideas on formations, and most importantly, commendable teamwork and precision of steps.

Glass Bead and Love Whisper
The 2nd most vocally talented girl group right behind Mamamoo! Great choreos too!
They may not have the hardest choreographies ever, but they definitely have one of the best 💖
And even then, it can still be challenging because of how synchronized they have to be to flow from one motion to the next & have it all be fluid.
Altyrell yep!

Gfriend is the best dance group out there rn. They are sophisticated and elegant yet sharp!
"Me gustas tu" really remains of "into the new world"
You should go check Fingetip choreo too! Thanks for supporting Gfriend! 💗
YAY THANK YOU!!! buddy is here
thank you so much, for reacting to gfriend, they have many amazing choreos, i recommend you navillera, love whisper and for something more recent their, bside labyrinth
please react to labyrinth dance practice.
I kind of like when they hide a member because they either transition to the front when you couldn’t see them before, or you get to see how in synch they are while just seeing a shadow when it’s another person..
about the hidden member , they either rotated or the behind member will be slightly left or right (not really at the center). thank you for the reaction and i hope you can react to other of their dances too
theres something about rough dance that makes me so emotional
You’re so friggin adorable!
Just for note
Rough was released after MGT, so maybe after MGT they go to the future, look your videos, then choreographed rough
You should watch them dancing to 'labyrinth', their power dance is so cool!
when me gustas tu came out it became known as the most complicated girl group choreography to date. it sat a new standard for "girly" groups
I get why you don't like the "hiding a member thing", but it's kinda annoying that you bring it up so often. it's been happening in k-pop for a long time and the choreographers don't see it as a bad thing( since they keep doing it). My frame of reference is different so I just don't find it that bad
gunther stewart agree
Cantttttt waiiiitttttt anotherrrrrrr reactionnnnn to GODFRIENDDDDDDDDDD❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰🥰
Thank you for reaction to Gfriend i really like it and i hope you will become buddy👍🙂💖
Wait ti love whisper 😱
Also i love your video!
GIRLS'GENERATION..
Her: gg inspired a lot.
Legend is still a legend.
You should react to nct u the 7th sense!! Its not like their usual upbeat songs and the dance is sooo good
first time that i felt asleep to a reaction
Everytime I opened TH-cam I always see this video. This is the fifth time and I finally watched it. Just sayin
React to another Gfriend choreo too like Sunrise, Love Whisper, Labyrinth, Time For The Moon Night, and etc
I really hope they make a Flower Garden dance practice so you could react to it.
DO MORE GFRIEND BCS WE LOVE IT 😍
13:49 Gfriend actually got a lot of hate when they debuted because people thought Glass Bead sounded like Into The New World
I felt really proud knowing the ballet names
Im brazilian so i only know dance terms in portuguese so i keep trying to figure it out by how she explains them
But in ballet they are always in french
me gustas tu was before rough so i guess they learned to not hide members??
also have you seen the 2x speed dances? do you have opinions?
ps. search me gustas tu 150905
번역키고 돌려봤는데도 무슨 말인지 모르겠지만, 되게 자세히 설명해서 좋아요!
GFRIEND 😊❤❤❤❤
I recommend Gfriend's White dance especially their footworks their😊
You should react to Love Whisper, Navillera, Glass Bead and Fingertip...the transitions, the choreo and the vocals are AMAZING
I hope you'll react to their dance practice more. And I do understand you about the hidden members thing because they do tend to hid a member in their choreography
