Thanks, I have the exact same problem. Or rather did have, this simple adjustment worked for my tractor supply msu 500 also. I drove mine for about a year before this issue popped up. And mine sees ALOT of use, Around my small farm, Hauls fire wood, rocks for stone walls, feed, fencing trailer, plows snow, Hauls tree stands, deer out of the woods. The list is endless. Very happy with mine also. Glad this was just a tweek and go . I'm sure my massimo will be running the northeast Pennsylvania hills for years to come. Thanks for taking the time and posting this. Thanks for your law enforcement service also. Gary, Penn wildlife conservation. Officer Ret.
@@captainsavagettv Did you try to lengthen the rod as shown in the video? You need to make sure that the rod is fully engaging the lever in reverse. If it is fully engaging and not moving in reverse or forward then your drive belt is burned or broken. If it does move forward and no reverse when rod does make lever fully engage, may be a transmission problem.
Right on you got it fixed. Was going to walk you through it bit I seen you had fixed it already. One thing to note is and time after you make a gear change from high to low or to reverse etc always give the throttle just a little tap to make sure it engages into gear. At least that way if the gears aren’t meshed it won’t strip all the teeth off the gears. After any grinding like that i’d be changing the oil as well to get any filings that may have come off the gears.
I will be trying this on my kawasaki mule 2500. Purchased earlier this year and after a long hard fight just to get it running, I put it in gear and it scared the piss out of me with all the grinding!
@TrainedZombie I have a BMS Ranch Pony 500 which I did the same adjustment myself and another thing to check and adjust is your engine idle adjustments as I noticed that you will also get that grinding noise if the RPMs doesn’t return to idle speed.
Thanks Everyone! So far grinding as stopped! I’m no mechanic but I think I fixed something! Haha MSU 500 running well now. A wrench was needed instead of a sledge hammer!
Also, early on in this fix, the part top center with rounded hole like on top looks similar to a part that I discovered had fallen off my Linhai at some point. It's new but I think the put together part may have been "not exact". Otherwise it's awesome. It has leaked a little fluid from what looks like brake and or transmission. Any ideas? Know the name of that curved part with a screen like thing inside one end. It looks close to that rod he adjusted , just above center. Should I find a dealer to change out the breakin oil or is it easy enough. I'm sure warranty time ran out but it's like new. Maybe 20 miles use if that. Alloy wheels camo finish, hydraulic bed lift and independent rear suspension with McPherson struts.breaking oil. The seller closed shop and died shortly after my son bought it for me. I'm 63 and have had 2 titanium plates fused into my neck (cervical), but I'm relatively game and regularly active outdoors. The bighorn would be a big help and has sat in basement with a battery helper/not charger, just helps it stay undrained. It uses 93 octane with an additive in blue bottle for fuel and came with extra spark plug for next fill up. I'm guessing because of ethanol.
I have no forward. It did grind going into high. However, now regardless of the throw on the linkage I have no forward still. I used it one day parked it. I came out the next day to this. Is there an electronic solenoid or a gear mesh alignment issue instead of the linkage?
My Massimo 850-5 is having major shifting problems and this must be the issue. I can’t hardly get it into gear frequently and now it sometimes jumps out of gear.
The 450 Buck I own will not go into reverse. It goes into low and high and we park in nutruel but it will not go into reverse or park. We need help with this issue please.
I've got the same problem with mine but instead, I've got mine adjusted all the way in and I still can't select reverse properly and forget about even trying to select low. Seems like the shifter its self just isn't moving enough distance to engage the gears.
We just bought an MSU500 and the previous owners installed a fan? And I guess the fan needs to be on when driving it. Does anyone know why they would do this? It only has 250 hrs
I have 2015 and the transmission is stuck in reverse and adjusted the linkage and will not get it to get transmission to to go in any gear only reverse motor will start and can drive in two and 4w well but only in reverse.
Don’t know what I did. When I took the cowl of between the seats to change the oil an now reverse light won’t go of . I know I cut the tie scrap the move some wires to remove the oil filter
First that's my better half photo. I'm a guy .Jerry. I've got a linhai bighorn 28 that looks very much like this side by side. Haven't even put enough miles to change break in oil. Mine makes same grinding.
Just bought a HiSun Axis 500 and 2 days later the 4WD locked up. I think the rear differential is locked too. Display shows blinking circle on the left diagram front wheels and an ‘X’ on the right diagram. I’ve tried pressing/depressing both the 2wd/4WD and differential lock buttons several times, rolling reverse/ forward up/down slopes and can’t get it to release. Steering very hard to turn. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I have an msu 700 and since a week after warranty I can’t shift into hi or low forward gears... I disconnected the shift linkage and moved the arm manually it does absolutely nothing when moved into the hi and low positions, I mean nothing, no click, no resistance nothing. So whatever is inside there is completely broken. Not sure if it is electronic, cable actuated or a shift arm... but this thing is worthless and a waste of money. Barely a year old and not even usable...

Thanks for the shout-out and the follow up. This video will help a lot of people, excellent explanation.

Many thanks brother. Am having the same issue on my Massimo TBoss 410. Will give this a try.
I just bought cub cadet 500 for 6k.new. Thanks for all the videos. Best out there. Boy lots of flies down there.

Glad it helped you out. I got a rhino 660. Had the same promblem
How close is the rhino drivetrain to the Massimo?
@@TrainedZombie motor. Trans an drive train are the same. Electric parts are different on most things. Some are parts inner change able.

Just wondering if it's likely the same fix. Mine has a Yamaha engine. Close to 400 cc I think.

Having problems with my Massimo MSU 500 4x4. In 2 wheel drive will not pull forward, in 4 wheel drive it will pull forward. What could be my problem ?

So I have an issue also with the gear shifting I have to cut the engine in order to shift gears any fix for that
idling too fast, slow it down
my cub cadet has the same setup
I have 2015 and the transmission is stuck in reverse and adjusted the linkage and will not get it to get transmission to to go in any gear only reverse motor will start and can drive in two and 4w well but only in reverse.

mine is so bad now that it hardly will go into gear on my cub cadet msu 500
Where you put the transmission oil?
Transmission uses engine oil.
