  • I had a few requests to make a video showing how I wick the RBA. I also show drilling one of the holes. Holes are 5/64" but 3/32" should be fine as well. This is the version 1 RBA, version 2 (RBA Plus) has holes.
    The video above is a follow up to this video: • Kanger Subtank Mini Wi...

    Top tip when drilling. Wrap a piece of masking tape around the barrel. This way you can mark where to drill with a pen, but the biggest benefit is it stops the drill slipping. Plus it catches some of the swarf.

    ***** I hear what you're saying and I share some of that frustration. I've been using ecigs for over four years now and these things have come along way. They continue to evolve and improve. My opinion of the subtank is different than yours. To me, drilling the holes has made it damn near perfect. The deck is very easy to build coils on and after you drill the holes you're good to go... Most all products go through modification and I'm glad, at least in this case, Kanger took notice.

    I didn't even use a standard drill bit. I pre drilled a small hole using the tip of a "cone carbide burr" with my Dremel. Then I finished it off with a "cone diamond burr" to both polish the edge and widen the hole as I pushed it through.
    Come carbide burr worked great. Needle tip so all u need is light pressure until u get enough of a indentation to apply more pressure. I found its a lot harder with the drill bit. Kept wanting to move all over the place....and since the drill bit was thicker I had to apply more force.

    This works amazing I really had my doubts at first but I can crank my watts up hard core and still no dry hits after this mod. And before I could maybe go a day low watts thank you so much i loved this tank before but now I think this is my girl till the end.

      jasontd1984 Couldn't agree with you more, I see myself using the kanger for a very long time to come. When I find something that works I stick with it. Before this I was using the KGO batteries and the Boge 2.0 carts for a good two or three years... But, it's even better now and I couldn't be happier...

    Pre-drill the hole with the smallest drill bit u have. That's ur guide. It'll help hold the larger drill bit in place. Then drill with the larger but u want to use as the diameter for your holes.
    I moved up in increments with drill bit sizes to avoid issues as much as possible.

    This works, I did the same thing but I did a 9/16 (about twice the bore in this video) hole and beefed up the cotton a bit. The RBA now resembles the disposable crashes and produces much better flavor. Also, I can vape high vg liquids without the fear of a dry hit. Vape on

    I drilled much bigger holes than yours on my old subtank mini rba deck (just a tad smaller than the holes in the V2 rba deck).. Performance is identical to the V2 rba deck. No flooding or gurgling whatsoever. I'm using 100% vg with about 10% DW.
    I actually prefer this to the V2 rba deck because you don't need the screwdriver when rewicking (though you do the screwdriver when recoiling). Highly recommend this modification. Great video.

      @rhinsen  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +deep stick You're welcome and glad that is working for you. The reason I went with smaller holes is because the channel grooves are letting juice in as well and I didn't want to over do it and let in too much juice. Mine works perfect as well which I think proves that the holes size is not super critical as long as you don't go crazy big or small. Thanks for the comment...

    It keeps flashing 0.0 ohm & can't get any smoke. I made this twice perfectly with coil not touching together or on base. Please help

    • @rhinsen
      @rhinsen  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know if this is your problem but this has happened to me. The top of the coil was sticking up a tad to much and when I screwed the base top on it was hitting the coil and shorting out. Hope that works for you, if not, then check the stock premade coil to see if that works. Maybe the problem is with your mod, I don't know for sure... Good luck and let me know if you find the cause of the problem.

      rhinsen thanks very much for your suggestion. right now I'm using the old burnt occ till I can visit my vape shop & mod works fine. I got this rba with my subox mini kit & I think it's defected. will update you on this. appreciate your help.

    • @rhinsen
      @rhinsen  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome, glad you got it working. Just to add, I get a much better vape when I twist 3 wires together using a drill. Each individual wire is 32 gauge and with the 3 of them twisted together the wire equals to about a 28 gauge wire. I tried the single 28 gauge wire by itself and it is not nearly as good as the twisted wire coil. Just my experience, good luck to you... Happy Vaping!

    • @ashscott6068
      @ashscott6068 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've had that problem. Also, sometimes the screw comes loose and the end of the coil slips through and shorts against the sides, so it might work fine for a while then suddenly give you this problem. If the problem appears outta nowhere, it's more likely to be this

      No leaking for me. In the past when I was experimenting with different wick lengths I would get some leaking on certain builds but using the wicking example in the video I never get leaks, never. Also, I always keep the tank upright as laying it down will eventually cause it to leak. Happy vaping!!

    These kangertech subtank coils including the "occ" throwaways have been an utter disappointment. The list of shortcomings is endless bottom line these were not ready for the vaping market. Why are there numerous videos on how to fix them? Because there garbage. If they were adequate they would not have completely redesigned the coils in the new version. We all who purchased the old coils should get refunds or at the least the newly designed coils I appreciate and so should kangertech the people posting the fixes on you tube for the suckers who bought them.

    • @rhinsen
      @rhinsen  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No worries but in my defense, I think the video shows how to position the wick. The video is more about how to prevent dry hits by drilling the holes to let more juice in.
