    In this video my good friend and fellow FPV drone pilot Dominik Cepon joins me to compare DJI FPV vs a "normal" FPV Racing Drone. We answer some of the most common questions like how does DJI FPV fly, what's the camera image quality, what we like about DJI FPV and what not. We also discuss if DJI FPV drone is the best fpv drone for beginners at the moment.

    What do you guys think about DJI FPV Drone?

    • @reddyairfpv
      @reddyairfpv 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good compare. I think DJI FPV not for beginners. DJI FPV Drone for expert pilots(who need hybrid drone) because beginners will kill this drone in acro mode. Else without acro mode you can buy mavic (mavic have more better camera). Custom drone based on DJI FPV link better for all filming cases. DJI FPV Drone expensive toy but have many good features(visual RTH, hold mode, simple battery installing).

    Hello Tom and Dominik. Tom, I’m here for your cinematic reels and tutorials. Thank you so much for the excellent contribution you make.
    I agree with what you say about this being best for beginners (perhaps careful beginners🤪).
    I think there is another category of user for which this is a somewhat ideal quad - the camera drone flier (especially professionals) for whom this will allow (without much training, dedication, and attention to hobby maintenance) expansion into:
    * proximity and gap shots at higher speeds than can be had flying with a camera drone’s phone video feed
    * angular horizon perspective and modest diving
    * a stabilized mode for safe, cinematic flying inside of and around structures like construction sites, gardens, and real estate
    As such a user, I don’t foresee myself aspiring to freestyle mastery, and (perhaps with a GoPro mounted) this will become the FPV tool I need for the long term.

    Got a couple friends that got into fpv with this drone. The biggest hurdle for them as far as going manual and learning riskier and more advanced maneuvers is the looming fear of crashing a $900 quad that can’t be serviced with their own hands. One bad crash and they’re grounded for 2-4 weeks. One of them came from a Mavic pro2 thinking the fpv footage would be top notch, but is realizing a GoPro would be more versatile. I think they missed the mark a bit since it’s an expensive tool to put in a newbies hands and isn’t exactly up to par with what experienced pilots want in terms of performance and video production quality.

    Well done Tom and Dominic, a great review for newbies beginner pilots. On Saturday I attended a race wher the 2108 FAI word champion Redroo (Rudi Browning) flew a race quad and then the DJI FPV quad on the track. He was able to get the DJI FPV drone to within 1 second of his race drones time for the same course. Mind blowing performance. My neighbour has one and I would love one, but if I crash I cannot rebuild it and the repair price is scarey, so it remains a dream for me.

    I spent soooo much time researching this myself and ended up getting the Nazgul just a week ago, I'm so happy I did! The downsides of single camera and manual vs auto exposure was new to me, and is a very good point. Another big one is repairability, especially since DJI wants you to send the drone to them for repair instead of doing it yourself, and you'll probably be left waiting for weeks!

    Excellent video. I’m new to fpv and probably the most qualifying question “do you want to do acrobatics” if so even if you go dji you are going to crash and have to send that drone to be fixed. Buy a kit build and it’s modular. You can fix it.

  • @vitorxavier8257
    @vitorxavier8257 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I guess the main point here is that over the years the main focus for DJI wasn't solving for prop wash but rather having an onboard camera gimbal. While this does smooth out the video it will definitely not improve flying performance and accuracy. Betaflight, on the other hand, had been improving filtering techniques (dynamic notch, RPM filters, ...), PID loop (Feedforward, throttle boost, Anti gravity, I term relax). Add to that the fact that DJI usually uses underpowered motors with Li-ion batteries (low energy output but longer flight times) while racing quadcopters usually have high powered motors with Lipo batteries (high energy output) and it is safe to say that DJI will probably never catch up regarding flight performance and accuracy.

    something to point out, a 6s 1300mah battery costs around $29 usd, $40 at the most for a top of the line lipo, the DJI battery on the other hand costs $159 usd.. So basically you could buy 5 lipos and fly 25 to 30 minutes on the regular FPV quad and 10 to 12 minutes on the DJI FPV quad for the same amount of money, basically you're paying double for less than half the flight time, now if you take a long range FPV quad you can fly even more minutes for less money than that

    I’ve had to send it back twice so far, so not too beginner friendly for mistakes and repair. And not friendly to my wallet. I bought it because I wasn’t sure how I would like fpv and I didn’t want to spend a lot of time learning the modifications and batteries. Now I know I love fpv but I’m not sure how much longer I’ll stick with this DJI

      @@tomstrojnik first time dirt got in the gimbal and one arm was bent... took about 10 days to get it back. Second time two arms were broken and it took two weeks. Took longer at the second time because I requested further diagnostic. However, I was not very happy with their diagnostic. I wrecked the second time because the screen lagged out at the bottom of a dive. It seems like their diagnostic only checked to make sure the craft connected to the goggles and they didn’t review the flight data that I had uploaded (or at least didn’t mention it in the analysis).

  • @ReggieRailSystems
    @ReggieRailSystems 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    You did not mention that the DJI Drone is very easy to damage in simple crashes whereas a normal 4 or 5 inch drone would not even suffer a broken propeller. But worse is the near impossible ability to have it repaired within a months time vs not even a day with most simple drone crashes. Then also don’t forget the cost to repair an already expensive fragile drone.

    • @tomstrojnik
      @tomstrojnik  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I crashed it at a pretty high speed.. and there was no big damage, only a broken LED plastic cover and a twisted prop that was easily fixed. Build quality is actually really good, but yeah I get your point of view.. fixing this is definetly expensive!

    • @ReggieRailSystems
      @ReggieRailSystems 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tomstrojnik Hello and yes, I understand your experience to date. But a casual viewing of DJI blog sites as well as a few TH-cam videos show there are quite a few who have experienced light crashes and the are now waiting for repairs. and some have admitted the cost for arm replacement and such was extremely costly. Being a resident of central Florida I have already seen more than my share of non in home repairable damage the DJI where it’s off to being repaired at at least a month or two wait. That’s where starting with a small woop for the cost of truly learning is the most fiscally responsible into entry of FPV. Now if money is no object the sure this is something to experience and it is unique.

    I think DJI is not a good company in general, these products are not what FPV is about. FPV is about collaboration and modification, when DJI comes into the hobby with a proprietary digital system + more it's clear they do not care about the future of fpv. And this drone is so expensive that I don't think it can be classed as a beginner quad either.

      @@tomstrojnik Don't get me wrong. I can see advantages of having a machine you just pull from the bag, and it is ready to go. Not having to store batteries. You can switch from manual to some other mode and focus on cinematography instead of having to concentrate on flying smooth or just casually cruise around. Not having to tinker with buggy gopros which is a nightmare if you have naked one and it just won't connect to your phone when it feels like it. Or when it freezes your footage 20secs into a flight.
      Only real downsides are the price, durability and the weight which is somewhat limiting you in where and how you can fly.

Even the camera Quality is not as got as a Gopro abd if you crash one time your drone ist broken you wont be able to repair and its very expensive to get it repairt from DJI. I really dont see any pros for the DJI FPV without the Flight maby but mine also last half the long and only cost 30 bucks not 160. Pls if you want a good FPV drone dont buy that crap
