    DJI FPV is amazing. I have been flying FPV multirotors for about 5 years now, and converted to DJI this year. I feel like the better image and quality of connection makes me a more confident pilot. It's not cheap but for the results the cost is worth it.

    Man what a good video, I'm here because the video from Mark Bone, and I began FPV this year too during lockdown, saw a ton of videos of the freestyle pilots that everybody knows, that are trying to make cinematic content, but this is the first one of someone like me, I mean videographer that got into FPV not the other way, you changed my mind with a lot of things what I'm struggling right now, because 1 month ago I lost my drone with the gopro and if I would see this video before maybe I would save the gopro and maybe the drone too, I started with a 3" and have no regrets but I'm looking forward to get a 5" and complement my skills. Hi from Colombia

    • @cbenfey
      @cbenfey  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I'm really glad I started with a 5"! It's really the most versatile size for cinematic stuff! Good luck with your own FPV journey!

    Been flying for a long time, I still buy prebuilts especially when I just need to put FPV fuel in my tank to keep me going. Plus you can buy gear for cheaper than you can build it yourself. Even if you buy a pre bulilt a lot of time you can transfer that gear on a separate project later. I just bought the iflight XL5 HD for 270 dollars in the 6S configuration. That puts the quad at 110 dollars minus the DJI system. It has premium motors and gear and just the motors alone are 80 bucks+. I could never fly this purchase and I still would be heavily satisfied. But of course I already have 10 packs through it....lol Great vid and I wish I had some of these locations, a lot of time the terrain informs the way we fly and develop.

    Great video Christoph!! It was fun to fly with you.
    And yes I totally agree about buying a ready to fly drone for your first drone rather than building it. I think it’s way more approachable for a beginner to repair than build. After enough repairs and experience, beginners will eventually learn enough about how drones are built to have the confidence to do it themselves.
    Or at least... that’s exactly how I did it too haha 😂😝

      I have a feeling the people saying you need to build it yourself are trying to prevent this hobby from going mainstream or something!

      @@cbenfey my opinion is they are the ones who might have started fpv when there was no choice but to build.. so had to learn that way or just like tinkering and building.. personally I buy prebuilt first... then learn to fix and tweak after .. also prebuilt first to get experience and make sure this is something you like.. then you can start customizing to your likes.. either way awesome video and happy safe flying..

      I started out with a DJI quad with the transtec laser HD frame that I got off someone from ebay for super cheap, and honestly that was probably the best decision I could have made. I ended up completely reverse engineering the thing due to how many crashes and mess ups I've made when soldering on new components like a GPS, vifly buzzer, or Crossfire nano rx I honestly think the only thing left on my quad that came from the guy I bought it from is the frame! I probably would have way given up a long time ago if I had to build it completely from scratch myself, so the slow learning process definitely helped a ton.
      The transtec frame is a nightmare to work with though since you route the motor cables under a little front and back plate if you want to keep it tidy, means you have to take off all the standoffs to change out a motor lol.
      I've probably reached a point where it used to take me 2 days to take apart and rebuild this quad, to just under half an hour.

      I think that totally depends on each individual! If someone new to the hobby has some experience soldering and/or is mechanically inclined, go for it. I built my first just this year. I ran into a couple issues along the way with getting my radio linked up and some of the software/betaflight stuff. (and an ESC that went out on me after my first flight, two minutes in...part was backordered for a while) Yeah, it would have been nice to get up in the air right away, but I would rather spend the time learning up front rather than have a bad crash and have to figure that stuff out, and put my flying on hold while I do so. I'm confident now that if I have to, I could rebuild my quad and get it back up in the air quickly.
      Again, it depends on the person. I enjoy tinkering and building so for me it was a no-brainer, and I was confident up front that I would enjoy this for the long run so I didn't mind spending the time initially. All that said, I don't discourage anyone from going with a ready to fly quad...it's all about how you want to do it and whatever makes it most enjoyable! I finally got my replacement ESC a couple weeks ago and have been able to fly for the first time with my goggles a few times now and it is a blast.

      I built it myself without any experience in drones and soldering. It took me a lot of patience but I did it. But for people who just want to fly and have fun it's probably better to go with a pre built first.

    Great tips man! I am just getting started in fpv coming from camera drones and have followed most these tips. I flew about 2 batteries of analog and then went to HD. Tip 10 I should work on. Bardwells videos have helped so much. I've emailed him a few times and I think I annoy him everytime. Building and setting up fpv drones challenges my brain to the point of thinking I may not be smart enough to do it. Eventually I figure it out. I mean the stuff I built before Dji. But even Dji stuff can take me a while. I live in my van also and don't have solar yet so power can be a issue too. I love it and am going to go fly right now. Just got the Nazgul HD 6s. So much fun! I need to get in touch with some local flyers. I'm in San Diego area and I am sure there are many around. Thanks for the tips!

      Don't sweat the building/set up portion of it all. I know it seems super overwhelming at first but I think you'll be surprised at how quickly the knowledge and skills will come to you. Just keep watching Bardwell's stuff, check out Oscar Liang as well; he's got a very helpful site that covers most aspects of FPV building. Get some practice soldering boards if you haven't soldered before. Keep at it brother!

    Tip #7 all the way! If using goggles (flying FPV), get to acro mode ASAP. Fighting against the self-leveling of angle mode to go where and how you want is a real pain in the butt. If learning line of sight (LOS), it's okay to use angle mode and focus on throttle control. After a few minutes or an hour, when you stop slamming the ground (because you will) switch to acro mode and keep the quad tail-in (that's rear of the quad facing you, front facing away from you) for a while. When comfortable with that, start flying squares or figure 8s. The amount of time it takes to get comfy at each stage of learning depends on the person but most should be able to do this in a day or two and doing line of sight flips and rolls in no time. :)

    • @cbenfey
      @cbenfey  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is great advice too! The importance of practicing LOS work can't be understated!
