    Love that surprise and the look on your cousin's face :-)
    I have a "disconnected drone forgotten" story.
    Lost an EMAX Babyhawk II HD a couple of weeks ago due to radio disconnection as it flew low behind the mangroves during low tide. As high tide was fast approaching, I didn't want to risk getting bitten by nasty stuff in the swampy regions just attempting to recover it.
    And I knew exactly where it was, but also decided not to fly out a recovery drone and risk it failing as well. And as the tide eventually rose, I decided to let it go. Now, seeing all the salt and the amount of resources needed to repair your cousin's Titan, I guess getting a new one was the better option. AND getting one that has GPS and GPS rescue properly setup.
    In hindsight, getting a lighter freestyle basher with a smaller frame isn't the most important thing. I think GPS is a must, not just for long range, it is a must especially if you strap on expensive Lithium Ions and GoPros on to it.
    Oh well. Great story, this episode :-)

    Great stories. Nice that you found it.
    Lost my first drone when flying it LOS, basically, the wind took it away. I was not an experienced pilot at that time. 2.5years ago I lost Reverb in a river. I was trying to hit a gap below a bridge but I hit a tree branch instead. The drone felt into the stream and I was not able to find it. I lost Armattan Badger in ocean year and a half ago. I got into RC shadow (big rock between me and drone), GPS rescue activated but I panicked and hit the disarm. When I regained RC link the drone disarmed and I was not quick enough to save it.

    I have one that was water damaged. I disassembled everything (including my dji air unit and camera), cleaned it all with fresh water and a toothbrush, blew it all out with a camera lense blower, cleaned it all with alcohol, blew it with the blower again, left it to dry for two days and it all works! I did have to flash the firmware to my esc, flight controller, and re-flashed the air unit but, it all works! My quad did not have conformal coating but it does now! Lol! Good luck!

      @tomstrojnik  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, that's amazing. For how long was it underwater?

    • @PropDusting
      @PropDusting 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tomstrojnik for 1 day underwater and 2 months on a shelf. It is the minerals that remain on the boards that are conductive. That is why I took everything apart and cleaned it twice. The fresh water to wash away the minerals and salt, the alcohol to remove the trace minerals from the fresh water.

    I have more lost than lost and found stories. Suffice to say I never run without GPS and a vifly beeper now. The last one I lost 3 years ago was due to an analogue VTX overheat blackout and I used to punch out to get the air rushing over it and it would flicker back on. Well I punched out and nothing happened and I lost it over some massive woodland area. Spent 4 months of going back there with people looking. Never found it. It was a brand new Hawk 5 + Session 5. It actually had a GPS but it was on betaflight 3.2.2 and GPS wasn't added till 3.4 groan lol.

    When I first started out building miniquads I used to use cheap FrSky XM receivers and in one of the first ever packs I had ever flown I failsafed out of the flying field into a guarded jungle with an enormous wall protecting it . There was no chance of rescuing as I had no GPS or any failsafe procedure setup the drone had just lost signal and crashed into the dense foresty place. Luckily we found a local tree climber who climbed the wall and found our drone and handed it over to us for no money at all. I feel like I am indebted to that guy even today. It seems like alongwith many other things F.P.V really needs to improve signal strength and reliability as I have had even crossfire failsafe a few yards away from me at 150mW. We need more reliable RC links for sure as almost 80% quads that are lost are due to control link failures not even video link issues.

    flying 1st gen mavic pro and lost signal. waiting about 30 seconds and nothing. rebooted the RC nothing. went out hiking to try and reestablish the connection. finally did get connect and could see it had crashed and the camera was pointed up towards the sky. next day went to where the DJI GPS/tracking said it should be on the map. Search for two weeks and never found it. Lessons learned: 1. don't reboot the system when the return to home has been activated. 2. Tilt the camera down to hopefully identify the surroundings 3. don't always trust where DJI maps last detected the signal. One other signal lost incident with a Flywoo quad. But after searching for a week and asking for some help up above...I located it!
