I have two of the FPVs and an Avata and love them all. I'm certainly no FPV racer/stunter as I would wager a large percentage of us are and these drones are a perfect fit. The immersion/sense of flight with the goggles and impressive video (more so on the Avata) checks the boxes for me. I LOVE this drone. It's heavy, yes; but it's just as agile as any other lighter FPV. I've seen videos of DJI FPV flying next to other "traditional" FPVs, and if you don't see it "physically", you wouldn't be able to tell which one is which when it comes to agility and speed. But, in my opinion, aside from the incredible battery life compared to other FPVs, it's the image. Thanks for the video! I just dusted my DJI FPV drone off and flew it this past week. It's still a great drone for many of the reasons you showed! I normally fly my own home built drones, but it's hard to get really good video (especially with a stable hover) compared to a DJI Drone. My biggest complaint is that DJI is overly aggressive and makes you get approval for a lot of class G air space in the US (if there is a small rural airport, helipad, etc.). Drone Hacks are a great way to get around this. One of the big downsides to this drone is the weight, and in the US you need a remote ID as of March 14, 2024 to fly legally. DJI does have some capability with the latest firmware to enable a remote ID broadcast, but it comes at the expensive of requiring internet access and you goggles tethered to a phone. I decided to buy a stand alone (holybro) remoteID which can easily be velcro'd to the top.

Captain My Captain - Awesome review! This was my first venture into FPV and I still fly it routinely. While it gets bashed I like it to take it out when I haven't flown in awhilw and need to shake off the cobwebs. Also here in windy Colorado it takes the winds a bit better. When I first started my ventures up into the mountains I found that this drone helped build my confidence flying the high peaks. Finally, I don't have to worry about having to worry about Remote ID compliance with it. Yes, it flys like a pig, but it's my pig and I like it! Thanks for what you do and keep doing it.

My first Bnf was around 750g with a larger batter. Given that if you put on the Gemfan 5536 or HQProp 5535 the thrust is pretty snappy for 5-7mins which is reasonable. I still don't fly it because it has remote ID(my country doesn't require it) and detectable by Aeroscope.
Flying mine on Saturday at the James Bond Skyfall Road in Scotland. Still love this drone and it has its uses. I'm on my third Avata and still flying the original DJIFPV. Manual mode on it is still a lot of fun but make sure you are in a wide open unpopulated space. Like the Scottish highlands. Or Mars. Although I reckon even if you fly it on Mars your neighbours will still hear it.
I've had my DJI FPV for well over two years and I consider it a blast to fly especially with the motion controller. I was into FPV with the Fat Shark style goggles years back but I never developed the skills to fly in ACRO mode, it was a dummied down version. I could do flips and rolls effortlessly and that was good enough for me knowing the cost of replacing the Quad. These first Gen DJI goggles were the reason I bought this. Amazing. Thanks for the video. Fly in warmer weather next time, I'd like to see the thawed river!
I have had this a couple years now and it’s very fun to fly. I also have the Avata and today i got the mini 4 pro. I haven’t set it up yet. I will on my day off. Always enjoy your videos and thanks for the stickers also!
The DJI FPV was my first FPV drone and for 99% of flights I fly in manual and love it. My next drone will be a bind and fly BUT I don't want to lose the features I have with the DJI I want... Really good RTH A camera I can gimbal in flight Good flight time (so probably a 7") But I'm really struggling to find something that ticks those boxes so I'm really afraid to crash my DJI FPV
Nice Steve, I have had mine for 3 years next month in April. Still flying excellent. Don't see the need to replace it. Flew out the over 3km today no issues and excellent range. If it had optical zoom it would be perfect for me.
Ya gotta come from the FPV drone hobby to understand 9you have to be a seasoned FPV pilot from days of old). There is a reason seasoned FPV pilots won’t touch a DJI Hybrid drone like this one or the Avata series. I’m one of the few who actually fly the DJI FPV drones often because I make use of the hybrid features for filming review videos.
I stopped flying in 2017 after my father passed away but picked one of these up recently. I wanted an fpv style drone but didn't want the hassle. This drone is awesome! My biggest gripe though is the damn noise. It's so offensive 😭
I've never owned a DJI quad but it occurs to me that a lot of us DIY quad builders, especially us cinematic guys, spend a lot of time and money trying to get our quads to perform like DJI quads lol. I've built a 7" DIY analog with GPS etc and I'm almost finished with a digital 3.5" cinewhoop with 03 Air Unit and Integra goggles and it's REALLY fun and satisfying to build my own. BUT I'd probably be money ahead and have better performance (for my flying style) if I'd just started with DJI. There are however a lot of things I don't like about DJI as a company. Mostly their proprietary nature and the difficulty in repairing their products yourself. Thanks for another great review Steve. Happy flying amigo. 🍻
I like your videos .. i like it so much steve . Each time you are adding knew knowledge or enjoyment to us .. i got this one and believe me i didn’t know about the the speed function of moving the camera by pressing the button 3 times until now from you 😁 .. regarding the difficulty of controlling racing speed drones, i got the similar old type which is walkera runner pro .. very easy to handle and i got the 210f 3d model which i am now for years unable to and cannot perform it’s incredible 3d stunt flying upside down .. it’s the most hardest drone to be fly at that insane crazy way of flying .. not sure if you try it before Steve .. it’s something out of my skill to even dare to do that way of flying. Great video always buddy .. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I still love mine. I fly manual mode only and somehow have never crashed it. I'm also usi😮ng old firmware and purposely do not update because if you get RID on it, you need to have your phone hooked up to fly. I'd love a dji fpv mini or a beefed up fpv with carbon fiber frame. Love being able to drop it out of manual mode to be able to safely land. Just flew in 50mph gusts here in MI. Crazy lol. Was giving high wind warnings but it handled just fine in manual.
Yep I realize phone needed to be on for the RID , but it still acted strange. It wouldn’t even arm though if I didn’t update. So kind of disappointing…. Cheers
I bought the FPV used last week and am very happy with it. In manual mode it comes back voluntarily after 5 minutes. For the price, it's perfect for getting started in the FPV hobby😅😅
Love the content! By the way in your opinion what is the best cinematic drone for beginners for less than 1 thousand dollars from DJI or Autel Robotics.
I was literally, searching for DJI fov video settings and your video came up. Thanks. This FPV is really good, but the noise and carrying everything for regular travel is a pain. I had mine for over a year and planning to use it way more this summer.
I have a pavo 25 but i have this in my cart and im really thinking about pulling the trigger do u think it would help me with the learning fpv or no just take my oavo out n go to it ??
I think a lot of the freestyle community hate it because they think it’s designed for freestyle fpv when it’s basically a 5” that’s meant to be flown like a 7” cinematic cruiser
is it any quieter with the stealth props fitted steve ??? i have them fitted to my mini 2SE so not expecting any major miracles ,just do they reduce that annoying shriek at all ??
It's funny that this video came out today because I just bought the avata pro view fly more combo yesterday. It's perfect because it bridges the gap between camera drone and FPV drone. And is durable, unlike the last dji fpv drone
Respectfully please clarify when what you are saying is just opinion and based on your own skill. Because I definitely go through small holes and dodge power lines with my DJI fpv. But that was the only fpv I used for a while.
Greetings, I am looking for drones for their load capacity. The ones I have more or less visualized are the DJI Air 3 and the Fimi its 350 grams for the x8 pro
I would like your opinion. It really always ends up being an adaptation and I do not have the experience of having used the three equipment. The only thing I have used is mini equipment and I want to improve the work we are doing by increasing the weight capacity and availability of the drone at all times. For the service as such, the service is a donation that I make of medicines to a health center that is very close, but my status as less valid, I cannot do it personally and when I have sent the medicines, they are not distributed equally with the feeling of good use.
great drone, only downside is very fragile, minor impact cost destruction. And camera could have better stabilisation. Flight over 1k battery cycles on it. If it does not flight straight, you need to recalibrate.
i want to get into aerial photography/videography and urban exploring. im wondering if this along with the bundle (with the headset and such) is a good drone for me. this is my 2nd drone but 1st genuinely good drone
It is designed for beginners when flying in NORMAL mode. If you fly in SPORT mode you need some skills. To fly in MANUAL mode you’ll need to have practiced for a year.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Alright thanks dude. Im also considering the iFlight defender 25. as i want a little bit of insurance since i hear the fpv is quite fragile while the defender is somewhat sturdy. Im going to purchase a simulator, controller, and headset before i purchase my drone. thank you
I've been looking to get the fpv and I've gotten use to the avata and wanted something with more power and cant get it cus the old goggles teck is to pricey to justify getting
Just updated mine yesterday to the latest firmware, and now manual mode is wonky, and yes I saw that the switch defaulted back to sport on setting 3. Thinking maybe it didn’t like an airport like 5-10 miles away…? Or something about set a screw tighter but not a consistent warning . So I think they must have added several conditions that are/could prohibit manual mode. I have used manual mode in this location many times before, no problems. Anyone else? Cheers Yep Captain, it’s fun but sure has my neighbors on the lake hating the noise/whine… they are not happy with it so I don’t fly it very often….
Whenever you do a firmware update on the DJI FPV or DJI AVATA, all settings return to default, so Manual mode settings will be gone as well as any rates or PID adjustments as well as Joystick centering…. You have to do everything all over again.
The gps is very good with return to home, tried it flying over hilly terrain last time going 1.5km away in manual was great fun zooming round hills and doing twists and loops, but wah! Only got 6mins out of it before battery very low. Now what happened I put it into return to home, it managed to get to 20meters of me then went into forced landing but before it got half way down from 100m altitude I lost signal completely and thought battery was dead and it dropped, however when I got to where it landed it was in one piece, no damage and when I checked the SD recording it had landed softly under power and still had enough juice to record me walking up to it even though it had lost connection with goggles, (no obstacles blocking signal involved) although when I pressed the battery check button there were no lights on. I recharged that battery, seems ok, no warnings come up, in your opinion would it be safe to use that battery again or should I hover test it first just to be sure?. Well like EV’s it’s still the battery that is biggest problem love to fly fast with acrobatics but at least 30mins like, not 5 to 7min if lucky. The battery time left when flying that drone in manual is a risky bet apart from that still like it and they are cheap to replace going for £179 on ebay people selling them off drone only in like brand new condition why cheaper than just 03 camera on its own, some have even modded it.
The battery should still be good because DJI builds a low voltage cut off into the battery. It may take a couple of charges before it returns to peak performance. You’ll know when flying, because if a battery cell has been damaged it just won’t give you full power at full speed.
Excellent video. My only additional comment would be how well this drone flies in manual mode in very high wind. No it doesn't fly as well as my other fpv drones but I still love this thing. I fly it out in the mountains where no one's around. It's perfect for a cliff diving. I think the onboard 4k camera is pretty good although not as good as a GoPro. What I most like most about it is if you lose connection it will come home.
Always great video. In cold weather i use only the motion controller when we do winter expedition otherwise the finger freeze too fast. Also DJI FPV & Avata are still the only one i trust for long distance above water. Let's hope for a new model this years still my best travelling drone
Have u flown a connex falcore drone. It came out just before the dji fpv. It has been discontinued now Iv got a connex falcore drone ain't flown it yet waiting for better weather
This is more a drone for people who only know how to fly a DJI MAVIC or DJI MINI and want to fly around with FPV Goggles in NORMAL and SPORT modes. So with that said, as an experienced FPV pilot, I probably would not buy it, unless of course I wanted the goggles and remote 2, then the bonus of getting the drone makes it worth it.
If any of you are considering this in the U.S. now, be aware if firmware is upgraded, with anything other than integra, you will have to connect your phone to it for gps before it will allow you to fly. Get the integra goggles with built in gps.
Yes… just like last year and the year before and the year before that. This is DJI… they gotta keep making money! 😀 I would expect to start seeing rumours before end March.
This was my first FPV drone and it taught me a lot. I now have a bunch of real FPV quads that fly much better and I've finally decided to sell the DJI (only the drone) but it was still a pretty tough decision even though I haven't flown it in a long time...
Excellent 3 year review Steve, I have two of these, highly recommend this heavy beast when flying in the mountains like here in Oregon unexpected gusts of wind will come up and all you won’t see much of an impact on this drone like you would if flying the mini 4 pro; The fpv has great features and with one I have the dji Mimo connected to it with motion controller I AND is simply amazing WITH integra goggles. I do enjoy the mini 4 pro with the motion controller 2 and goggles too as a result of that option I purchased a mini 4 pro instead of the Avata, I enjoy the master air screw props the ones Steve initially showed are great for highest speed if a gusty day I will go with the heavier master air screw props, yes the batteries are expensive and they should design the fpv series to use a compatible battery for years in my opinion. Note: I saw thru dji dealers a chart showing compatible motion controllers the Motion controller 2 is currently not compatible with DJI fpv I think many have updated that information. I recommend the Startrc foldable landing gear for the fpv also
1:52 that’s just simply not true though lol. You can use manual mode which doesn’t have obstacle avoidance which is weird because at the bottom of the screen you have “my complaints refer to flying in manual mode” obstacle avoidance is only for certain modes and I don’t remember but I’m pretty sure you can turn it off for those as well
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 yes but you said you were referring to manual mode and I don’t want people to be mislead into thinking they’ll have to deal with obstacle avoidance while trying to fly in manual mode. That could be a dealbreaker for some people unnecessarily since it doesn’t actually come into play if you’re flying in manual mode.
@@RealNaisuCinemaha ha, anyone on this planet that would think obstacle avoidance exists in Acro/Manual mode is 100% not ready for Manual/Acro. I think most clued into what I was saying as I’ve said the same thing many times over since the release of the DJI FPV years ago.
Hmmm, I'm not convinced that was full Acro mode? Looked like there was still some stabilization? Other channels mentioned, that turning it completely off can be finnicky!

You have videos? Love Scotland
The original DJI FPV needed some love, happy to see it fly.
Recently bought one . just for the sound!
The DJI FPV was my first FPV drone and for 99% of flights I fly in manual and love it.
My next drone will be a bind and fly BUT I don't want to lose the features I have with the DJI
I want...
Really good RTH
A camera I can gimbal in flight
Good flight time (so probably a 7")
But I'm really struggling to find something that ticks those boxes so I'm really afraid to crash my DJI FPV
No “consumer” FPV Drones have a gimbal as a gimbal is useless and a burden in manual mode/acro mode. Only the DJI FPV had a moveable camera.
Nice Steve, I have had mine for 3 years next month in April. Still flying excellent. Don't see the need to replace it. Flew out the over 3km today no issues and excellent range. If it had optical zoom it would be perfect for me.
the sound comes purely from the props? or somethign else?
Love this drone too! got it last year safe and easy to flight , i had never regret it !
Wondering what you mean by it doesn't like your fpv input. I'd like to know the difference in flying this versus a regular fpv drone.
I wish the 03 had all the UI elements that the djibfpv frone does, would love to have that home logo on screen and gps built into the airunit
Cheers
@@jaynorthwoods weird. I haven't updated firmware in 2 years and it I have no issues going flying.
Amazing Video , Thank you for sharing your review for the flying potato
My pleasure!
You should have flown with your new Dji goggles. The camera quality from the DJI FPV is way better through the newer integra/goggles 2
What a beautiful view 😮 Amazon video 🫡
Really wan a FPV Drone …
I bought the FPV used last week and am very happy with it. In manual mode it comes back voluntarily after 5 minutes. For the price, it's perfect for getting started in the FPV hobby😅😅
Love the content! By the way in your opinion what is the best cinematic drone for beginners for less than 1 thousand dollars from DJI or Autel Robotics.
That would be the Mini 4 Pro. Best bang for the buck.
I was literally, searching for DJI fov video settings and your video came up. Thanks. This FPV is really good, but the noise and carrying everything for regular travel is a pain. I had mine for over a year and planning to use it way more this summer.
Do you know if better batteries will ever be sold for this incredible drone ?
Nope. DJI controls that & if they wanted to put out different batteries, they would have done so in the first year it launched.
I have also the fat pig, and I like it :) Fly mostly in manual, as only this (and normal for landing) makes sense to me.
Best consumer drone ever made hands down
I have a pavo 25 but i have this in my cart and im really thinking about pulling the trigger do u think it would help me with the learning fpv or no just take my oavo out n go to it ??
If you can fly the PAVO in ACRO then you can easily fly this one.
I found no difference
Aikon prop adapter with gemfan 51455 props make it most quiet and performs amazing
very nice video......!!!
Many many thanks
It's funny that this video came out today because I just bought the avata pro view fly more combo yesterday. It's perfect because it bridges the gap between camera drone and FPV drone. And is durable, unlike the last dji fpv drone
I ABSOLUTLEY love mine! No regrets.
Same
❤love you man! I learnt so much of you years ago!!!
Happy to help!
Wow.. I see the propellers.. 😮
Gday mate will this drone work with new cadex headset? version 2 , Cheers Bro ^^
Most likely not as DJI makes this product to only work with DJI
Respectfully please clarify when what you are saying is just opinion and based on your own skill. Because I
definitely go through small holes and dodge power lines with my DJI fpv. But that was the only fpv I used for a while.
You don’t do that in Manual Mode
Hi Steve .. Where did you buy the skin for the drone 😀
I think I put the link to the skin store below the video
You have a slight Tony Stark thing going on with the glasses. LOL! I like them.
Ha ha, thanks. Please don’t blow my cover 😎
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 your cover is safe with me. ;-)
I got one and love it
Greetings, I am looking for drones for their load capacity.
Took me almost a month to open the box. I still love it. Took a spill in the winter and fell on it. Now my camera sticks up and I can't figure it out.
Captain Drone - Thank you for the "spot-on" review and good point of view about this particular DJI drone. Always well-done video 👍👍.
i want to get into aerial photography/videography and urban exploring. im wondering if this along with the bundle (with the headset and such) is a good drone for me. this is my 2nd drone but 1st genuinely good drone
Cheers
Yep Captain, it’s fun but sure has my neighbors on the lake hating the noise/whine… they are not happy with it so I don’t fly it very often….
Whenever you do a firmware update on the DJI FPV or DJI AVATA, all settings return to default, so Manual mode settings will be gone as well as any rates or PID adjustments as well as Joystick centering…. You have to do everything all over again.
Thanks for the video!
love the glasses dude!!
Great review Steve, love my DJI FPV, great camera, reliable and my go to for FPV cinematic footage in manual mode.
I have not seen or flown or heard of a connection falcore drone
Would you buy this drone now; I've always wanted one and your making a strong case ❤
12:53 what do we do about updates?
U didn’t answer my question you just highlighted it. Can u answer it: how do we update the DJI fpv?
What do we do about updates?
i have this drone and i love this drone :)
Hi Captain, can you please make video on DJI 4g cellular dongle for DJI mini 3 pro
I love flying it.. im not a manual flyer..
So, ‘Reading between the lines’ in a view days there will be a new DJI drone annonce🥳🫶🏻
Yes… just like last year and the year before and the year before that. This is DJI… they gotta keep making money! 😀
I would expect to start seeing rumours before end March.
I ❤ DJI stuff, tnx. Steve✌🏼
Thanks for you You show what once was
This was my first FPV drone and it taught me a lot. I now have a bunch of real FPV quads that fly much better and I've finally decided to sell the DJI (only the drone) but it was still a pretty tough decision even though I haven't flown it in a long time...
Has anyone ever swapped out the camera for the V2?
Great video, ive been looking at this and avata, might get avata 2…
How much faster does it go with those aftermarket props (in manual mode)?
The props are slightly longer than stock so you get a bit more speed (I have no idea what the exact speed difference is)
I've got mine upto 95 for a hot sec or two! I don't think it's much faster thou but I do love my props
I recommend the Startrc foldable landing gear for the fpv also
I still flying mine after 3 years
Are those props better than stock? Where can I buy it
Yes, they are better because they are slightly larger and grab more air, so speed is increased. MASTER AIRSCREW use to sell them… check their website.
hi, is compatible with the googles 2?
Yes
Can use head tracking?
Great video. i still fly mine here and there. Like you said, this drone has its purposes and is fun in its own way.
1:52 that’s just simply not true though lol. You can use manual mode which doesn’t have obstacle avoidance which is weird because at the bottom of the screen you have “my complaints refer to flying in manual mode” obstacle avoidance is only for certain modes and I don’t remember but I’m pretty sure you can turn it off for those as well
The point is… there is no such thing as an FPV Drone with obstacle avoidance installed.
That was DJI MANUAL MODE which is very similar to Acro/Air modes, just not as smooth.
Once again a very cool video! I'm now deep into the FPV game. But I still love my DJ FPV. I saw it for the first time in your videos and bought it straight away. I have the same propellers on it and the same sticker on the same hull.lol
You have an extremely cool FPV drone with that sticker!
@@CAPTAINDRONE798Thank you very much! 😊😊😊
How could I update mine to the latest firmware? It’s not letting me do it on the new MacBook can you or any help with this problem?
