The method you use for measuring "pre-travel" is not a measure of switch actuation. These are optical switches, the click is not the switch actuation. The very nature of optical switches is that they actuate much faster than mechanical switches, which need physical contact and software debouncing. Furthermore you're slowly bending the mouse button, using the switch as a lever. This is outside of what would be seen during normal use.

One question: the old g502 has a problem that is, when you press the mouse scroll depending of the angle you press it, you can accidentaly activate one of the lateral (left and right) whell buttons wich can lead to undesirable commands. Looking into your video and some photos, seems that the wheel of the new model is different. Can you report if this accidental presses also happen on the new model?

i havent heard anyone else complain about the pre travel, is it really present on every one or is his model just faulty also is pre travel on mice an actuall problem or is it something you can get used to
Pre travel is definitely a problem. How big of a problem it is, that depends on the person using the mouse. Tbh the normal g502 has negligent pre travel. Pretty sure you won't even see it at all. I am using it and it's like instant. Your initial pressure is wasted on the pre travel and also brings the point of "latency" which is negligible mostly, but in those crucial gaming moments when you see an enemy and that latency is the differentiator for you dying in a 1v1 headshot battle. If you play valo you will understand what i mean.
Great video and thank you for this video. One question though, are the optical hybrid switches swappable with your traditional switches like kaihl 8.0?
There are a few mods but a straight swap no…. In the Razer mice that use opto mech switches you can swap these between other Razer mice with these switches
@@Beardedbob thank you for answering! I plan on purchasing a g502 but optical switches are a big turn off for me. One last question, for the old g502 model that uses all mechanical micro switches, are there any silent switch options I can use to replace the side smt switch with?

I feel like they make the mouse worse with each iteration. My Proteus Core is still clicking perfectly fine after nearly 6 years, while I hear of lots of Heros that have double click issues after less than half a year. The mouse wheel is still super heavy, despite the G900s wheel fitting in it perfectly. But I must say the skates are better and the front where the buttons end is less edgy.
I don't get the pre-travel because I click from the middle of the button, but I do from the front. I use a claw grip. The mouse is good but I really wish they'd make a wireless Shroud G303 with a snipe and maybe one or two more buttons on the right side. I rarely use them on the 502x but I for sure notice when I did need one on my 305.
