The two most common examples are that Zelda was inspired by him exploring caves and forests in the countryside as a child and Pikmin was inspired by his passion for gardening (not really according to this video).

I really hope this is the end of the Pikmin drought. Nintendo is going all-in on the marketing for this game, in some ways even more than they were for Tears of the Kingdom. I think they have extremely high hopes for Pikmin 4, and if this does do well and lives up to their expectations, we might just be looking at Pikmin becoming a mainline series with consistent releases.

When counting animals in Japanese you use piki but it changes depending on the number. One dog is inu ippiki. 2 dogs is inu ni hiki. 3 dogs is inu San bikki.

Must have been a slight mistake in the script, but yep you're right. In the beginning of Pikmin 1 Olimar says "this planet's atmosphere is comprised of poisonous oxygen!" I dunno if it's ever stated what Olimar's people actually breath, but if oxygen is poison to people of his planet maybe they breath something like carbon monoxide, which is poisonous to humans.
Its probably the concentration of oxygen that's hazardous to them. Pikmin are supposed to be similar to their own race, to the point where the Pikmin could turn Olimar into one of their kind, so his people probably just have a lower tolerance for it due to their planet having either less of it or lower pressure. Much like how low pressure makes it harder to breath, high pressure would do the opposite and potentially cause hyperoxia. Pikmin's Earth may be more like it was during the carboniferous period, where levels were as high as 35%. That could explain the giant insects and amphibians.

It's quite possible that said code is called on by the notorious ドドロ (Smoky Progg). The secret (if you play the game without spoilers) boss has a cry\wail\whatever that uproots Pikmin within its radius, much like the old version of Olimar's whistle would. - So it's possible the ドドロ (Smoky Progg) pulls from the old whistle's code. If that is true, it could explain why the code is still in the final game.

Does anyone else have distinct memories of continuing to play after the Bad Ending? As I recall, after the Bad Ending you could still play that save file and continue to finish your ship, but there was no more time limit. I don't think you played as the pikmin-Olimar model though. Pikmin 3 deluxe is gonna be huge. With such a large Switch fanbase theres going to be alot of people that are going to fall in love for pikmin for the first time having missed out on 1 and 2. I've already got my copy pre ordered!

Listening to this and reading up on the franchise's general history, I get a feeling that Pikmin is the series that Miyamoto cares the most about nowadays - maybe even the *only* one.

Yes, we are aware the game is over twenty years old.
However, many people who haven't experienced a franchise before will, funding and availability permitted, buy the previous titles to experience the series, or at least the 'line' the new game is from.

This was originally at the top after what is already there to explain what I meant by 'line' but before posting I figured it would be too much text.
I don't want to waste the time I spent typing it by just deleting it, so I put it here. There is a line (like the one above) to mark the end of my explaination if you wish to skip it.
People who bought Final Fantasy Tactics A2 may have only bought Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, and *maybe* the 'mainline' Final Fantasy Tactics games, (which is its own spinoff line) but not the Final Fantasy game collection in its entirety; much like someone buying FFXIII-2 would get FFXIII, but not FF through FFXII, as most Final Fantasy 'mainline' games, dispite being numbered, are their own little universe\\submultiverse, with the games in the same universe\\submultiverse having a second number after the initial number.
… Maybe using Final Fantasy games was a bad example…
Anyway, I don't want to spoil newcomers.

It's possible the "unused" plucking whistle mechanic's code in Pikmin (1) isn't unused in that game. It's quite possible that said code is called on by the notorious ドドロ (Smoky Progg). The secret (if you play the game without spoilers) boss has a cry\wail\whatever that uproots Pikmin within its radius, much like the old version of Olimar's whistle would. - So it's possible the ドドロ (Smoky Progg) pulls from the old whistle's code. If that is true, it could explain why the code is still in the final game.

10:59 Pikmin games has always failed to have good sales so i wonder why he insists on making more of them. Just compare it to Animal Crossing where it slowly became a killer app or Splatoon which its first game got great sales despite it was released on the WiiU.

Does anyone else have distinct memories of continuing to play after the Bad Ending? As I recall, after the Bad Ending you could still play that save file and continue to finish your ship, but there was no more time limit. I don't think you played as the pikmin-Olimar model though. Maybe this was an Action Replay thing?
I’m afraid that doesn’t make an ounce of sense. I think if you got the bad ending you’d just have to restart, and this sounds like an ar code you used

When you fail Pikmin the game ends and you have to start over, only an action replay would allow you to continue after the 30 day limit with no timer.

Pikmin 3 deluxe is gonna be huge. With such a large Switch fanbase theres going to be alot of people that are going to fall in love for pikmin for the first time having missed out on 1 and 2. I've already got my copy pre ordered!

Imagine ending the first year of a new decade with the long awaited Pikmin 4. I hope we see the origins of Pikmin, to unlock the secrets of Pikmin and discover new, lost Pikmin. I also hope that the game allows you to play at Night-time
I blame Nintendo for the lack of marketing around Pikmin. I think it could have done better.

Actually, the statement of how people ‘mistook’ the Arboreal Frippery for a marijuana leaf implies that it wasn’t entirely intentional, as Olimar makes reference to it being ‘the ultimate drug’ and that he might use it one day, while the ship warns Hocotatians not to overdose on it as it could be lethal. It’s even named the ‘One-Hit Kill. It absolutely IS a marijuana leaf. Also, that apparently Hocotatians might be able to lethally overdose on THC, which is impossible for humans.
As soon as I finsih watching Arlos new news round up this comes up in my recemended!
