It's mentioned somewhere (I think) that Olimar is the company's best employee He can't really be fired simply due to the fact that they'd be losing their only competent employee
during a conversation between Olimar and the rescue squad Colin mentions how Olimar is well known for his adventures which makes Olimar sad as he mentions his adventures are just him crashing and having to find the parts of his ship to get back home or going to pay off company debt. While not saying how many makes it sound like it's and in between somewhere
The sheer number of highly skilled pilots that crashed in 4 suggests that it's not his fault, there is clearly an entity on the planet that causes any sufficiently large ship to crash land.
The best part about this game, is how well it's doing. It's selling better than any other _Pikmin title,_ people are playing and streaming the other games, they're finally getting big, mainstream attention, and I couldn't be happier.
I’m sort of a new fan, I started with hey Pikmin (sorry) and put it down after a while, but then I played 3 Deluxe and even though I haven’t finished it yet, I really like it, the exact same thing applies to 4, I have not finished it yet but it’s absolutely amazing I couldn’t be happier to see the series get more and more attention, because the 10 year wait made it seem like it was just one of those franchises that is memorialized as a character slot in smash bros (looking at you, Earthbound), and Nintendo should do more experimenting with stuff, I love Rhythm Heaven and I want that series to get attention, I think it would be nice for them to port Fever (the Wii one) to the switch, if not the switch then hopefully their next console, and then they see how well it sells and see if the series is needed for a new game that went off-topic, but I am so happy that Pikmin is finally getting the attention it’s always deserved, it may have been because the rest of the series were all on poor selling consoles, and most people only knew it from Smash Bros, but now people see it as a genuine game I’m going to be pissed if it isn’t nominated for GOTY
Brittany has been confirmed to be the sister of the veterinarian Alph has around 12 brothers and the eldest is the one we see And the captain has worked with a guy nicknamed “ducky” for his strange obsession of being a rubber ducks
My favorite thing is how each NPC *feels* like someone for example the dude who has an entire live life long rivalry with Bernard it really fleshes out each NPC yes each NPC! I also love the Oatchi dialogue.
The Koppaite castaways are actually hinted to be related to the Pikmin 3 captains in a family sense. Don has many brothers and sisters and had a former partner named Ducky, referencing Charlie's rubber duck. Yorke is a grandson of Dr. Drake, who is also Alph's grandfather. And it is mentioned that Nelle has a biologist in her family, likely being Brittany.
I think it’s cool how night expeditions kinda flip how you look at the game instead of the end of the day being your demise but in night you want the night to end as quickly at possible and the final countdown despite being the exact same makes you feel completely differently
i imagine that louie has hella talent but is too lazy to use any of it, to the point where louie was assigned to be the pilot in pikmin 2 but couldn't be arsed to do it and olimar had to take the wheel just to crash it again.
It could also be that Louie is desperate to stay on the planet so he doesn't have to go back to work. Thus he's more motivated to win compared to Olimar testing you.
Yeah I don't understand why they changed the Puffstool's spore effect into making the Pikmin dance. Not only does it not make sense but it makes the Groovy Long Legs feel a bit less unique. I want the zombie mushrooms back.
If it’s any indication of how quality and fun this game is, I played this game TWICE. At the same time. One file just for me to play, and the other for when my sister visits on Sundays to do laundry and hang out. Despite playing two separate files simultaneously I still didn’t get burned out on the game and was just hyped to play. Truly these are great times for Pikmin.
Given that Louie is a criminal, I’m imagining if he doesn’t appear in a future game that he’ll be written out by there being a mention of him in jail. Hell maybe they could make a game of a bunch of criminals arrested for petty crimes having to survive after Louie hijacks the ship taking them to jail and working to rebuild the ship. Also I had this idea where any Pikmin can go into water, it’s just that blues are completely overpowered in the water.
TLDR: Basically I want play to play a combination of Subnautica and Pikmin. I personally want to play a Pikmin game as Louie in a survival game. Like I want to able to play a Pikmin game where the captain climbs plants and can parkour from plant to plant in order to avoid enemies which are too strong and fast for you to sprint past or attack with your current amount of pikmin. I want a tactical system where you have to choose to either eat or to give the corpse to pikmin to recover loses from the battle. It just seems neat and Louie has been shown to be a very capable person when it comes to survival.
I had an idea for a pimmin game where Louie runs away from jail, steals a ship and goes to the pikmin's planet, but the ship sends an SOS signal automatically. So Louie has to rebuild his ship before the cops come to get him.

Pikmin 4 has been such a wonderful play. Its a damn great game! So happy it did in fact get released 10 years After Pikmin 3. What a great experience of a game!
With every main pikmin game on the switch its a great time to be a pikmin fan. And this might boost the pikmins fanbase and finally make it a popular nintendo series.
The guy that made the "Pikmin 4 is almost out" article became the chief editor by the time Pikmin 4 released to make a review, that's such amazing character development
You did a good job explaining how good it is without claiming it's perfect. The incredible co op in 3 being omitted was painful, but it's still one of my favorite games ever made.
A few of the data entries point to this being a separate timeline from 1-3. One of Olimar’s mentions he dreamt of his company going into debt because of a new employee and he woke up laughing. And Louie’s last one makes his dark secret from 2 even worse. But man, I loved this game. I played through the main story twice, got platinum rank on all dandori challenges and battles, and did something completely insane: completed Olimar’s story in only four days.
I picked up 3 deluxe back in October and just fell in love with it. Its gotten to the point where I've sank over 100 hours into the game. I've done over 20 100 percent playthroughs in that time and in 50 hours I've only done 2 100 percent playthroughs of 4 and in those playthroughs I have concluded that this game really makes you feel like a PURPLE PIKMIN. I think that shows just how much more content their is in 4 compared to the old ones and I could not be happier for that. Or maybe I just suck at time management in 4. Dandori issue
Wow. Almost everything AntDude predicts actually comes true. We should start sending him letters about games we want so he can do a video about them and make it happen. XD
I just met AntDude earlier today at the Indianapolis PopCon. I asked him if he was going to do a Pikmin 4 video and he said it was uploading soon. I didn't know it would be the same day. Thank you so much AntDude. I love the Pikmin games and had to get 4 when it came out. My only problem with the game is I'm pretty bad at the Dandori Battles. I've managed to get Gold in a few of them but I'm just not fast enough. I'm okay at the Dandori Challenges where you just have to collect everything and have gotten Platinum in pretty much all of them. I guess it's just the added stress of going up against another character that is bothering me. As for the Sage Leaf Trials, good god am I a mess. I managed to complete them but pretty much all Bronze with, I think 2 Silver. I really need to practice. I have managed to do a deathless run on the first 2 Pikmin games thanks to the Switch releases so I can hopefully get better at the newest game too. Sorry I started rambling there. It's just really cool that I met AntDude today.
I've developed a theory that the dogs are somehow related to breadbugs based on the similar general body plan and a decent number of similar behaviors, the giant breadbugs even charging; there's even the fact that both have a small one and a big one

My favorite little detail I barely notice because of multitasking is that if Pikmin are carrying an object but one of them gets attacked by an enemy, they will all stop what they're doing to attack back, defeat it, then continue carrying the original object.
YES! FINALLY! [Laughs with joy then calms down] Whew! Wow, Great job reviewing PikMin 4 AntDude! I Know it's been 10 long years but I've played it and wanted your input on youtube since it launched, VERY exciting!
Amazing video. This game took me through every emotion ive known. Waiting 10 years in itself was part of an amazing journey. I felt Happiness, Rage, Hatred, Excitement, Curiosity and Sadness. That credits theme really, REALLY got me. Heres to Pikmin 5.
Easily my new favorite Pikmin title. I will say one thing, I absolutely agree with the design decision that enemies are no longer there once you defeat them. I found that to help me out so much with clearing the map haha. Though I think it would be cool if once you get 100%, when you enter the map they ask if you would like to repopulate it just for the grind for players who want that. But for me, I love emptying out the place just so I can focus on everything else.
I absolutely love how this game proves that the caves from pikmin 2 were a good idea, cause im ngl i love pikmin 2 but the caves (especially some late game caves omg) are generally annoying and not fun to explore, pikmin 4 fixes all of that.
I haven't played Pikmin 2 in a long time, but one of the main things I remember is not liking the caves. This wasn't an issue with 4. Maybe because they generally had fewer sublevels (aside from the final one)? And the time-rewinding feature helped too, in case you screw up badly when you're deep in a cave.
This game was worth every year of the wait. And yes it is one of the best games Nintendo has ever made. The hard work throughout all those years shined through beautifully. It's probably my favorite game of all time even
11:22 fun fact actually! The ice Pikmin I believe are closely related to the rock Pikmin, because the rock Pikmin are actually a type of parasitic Pikmin that takes over a rock, and the ice Pikmin are the exact same concept but with ice instead!
Olimar entry for the rock Pikmin also does the astute observation that, Rock Onions and candypop buds have their own supply of rocks at the ready to infect with this strand of parasitic Pikmin seeds
What’s cool is that this game doesn’t invalidate Pikmin 3 Deluxe! They coexist well as different experiences. Like updates to the Pikmin 1 & 2 experiences for modern times
The Lightning item was so overpowered. You could beat nearly every boss (except the final) by using Lightning than ultra spicy spray and charging with Oachi with Pikmin
If there is DLC, I hope it expounds on the mystery of what is causing everyone to crash land on the planet. Even the NPCs point out that something weird's going on, as there were a few really good pilots among the castaways (including Bernard of the Rescue Corps). Either that or it'll be a plot point for Pikmin 5.
If you didn't know everybody that is a part of the Rescue Corps is named after dog breeds. The ship The SS Beagle is named after a Beagle. Shepherd is named after a German Shepherd. Colin is named after a Border Collies. Russ is a Jack Russiel Terrier. Dingo is just a Dingo (or maybe Dalmatian but I doubt that). Bernard is Saint Bernard, Yonny is the only one I'm iffy on but I think it's named after the Papillion. (Spoilers below) The description for the Ancient Sirehound hints at dogs and humans being connected to these strange small people and dog like things in space is also maybe an explanation for these names. I was never really interested in Pikmin lore before this game but with this kind of reboot I'm having a lot of fun trying to put it together.
Regarding the 3 Koppaite Castaways. Yorke is implied to Alph’s Eldest Brother seeing as he belongs of group of 14/15 siblings and mentioning Drake. As for whether 4 retcons the events of the trilogy it seems that way. The Planet Koppai is mentioned to be on the verge of a food crisis which would place Pikmin 4 before the events of 3 regardless of retcons and Olimar makes reference to the events of Pikmin 2, Hocotate Freight being in debt, as a dream and not history.
I think Nintendo were expecting this one to be a big hit and wanted the story rebooted with hints to the other games. Maybe Yorke, Alph, and Brittney will be in the next game
I want to point out, its not just the Beagle and Shepherd, EVERY SINGLE character, rescue corps and castaways alike, are named after dog breeds. Also, much like Olimar is Mario backwards and Louie is the first syllable of Luigi, Oatchi is clearly a riff on Yoshi.
I have like the exact opposite opinion. I don’t like Pikmin 3 because it took so much away (like almost everything introduced in 2). And love pikmin 4 because it added almost everything back
@@ringer1324 for me it’s the loss of true co op, achievements, respawning and bingo battles. Add in the auto lock on was so dang frustrating (it killed more of my Pikmin than enemies did) and it just took a little bit of a dip for me. Still a great game, but after the demo and excitement wore off I was losing the interest towards the end. Plus the bosses were almost all repeats, I mean cmon we fought empress bulblax 3 or 4 times.
4:35 I wanna add to these "minor" changes. They got rid of the bridge glitch and the crushing glitches in pikmin 1, and also gave Emporor Bulblax in Pikmin 1 a drop shadow for when he jumps. These are awesome changes.
This is probably a controversial opinion but I feel like this game is very overrated. Don’t get me wrong I don’t think it’s bad by any means. In fact I think it’s a great game but it has a lot of problems that I feel like people just gloss over or don’t talk about. Pikmin 3 is the better game imo
Thank you, I was worried that I was the only one who likes 3 more than 4. Worse Pikmin balance, worse control, and worse boss fights, along with Oatchi breaking the game in half, seven or so types of items when maybe three of them are any use, pretty uninteresting characters that never stop talking, and lower production value (no CG cutscenes or dynamic lighting) make me wonder why Antdude and others have such high praise for it 4 might just be my least favorite Pikmin in fact, if it weren't for the fact that it's still Pikmin at its core I may not have finished it
Main article: Pikmin 4 player character. The main character of the game is a customizable character, referred to in promotional material as "You". Promotional gameplay screenshots feature the names "Lisa" and "Emma". Their name and appearance can be customized in a character creator.
I just finished the final boss up last night and yeah this game is a downright masterpiece. I cried when I got to the damn title screen, that's how you know this is gonna be good.
I love how Louie being a pos is so consistent across all games. It's such a good uniting factor for fans, maybe we don't agree on all things, but we all hate Louie.
Louie teaching you how to carry things back to your base on your own can only come from how much he wants to eat all of the creatures he finds. He probably keeps eating his Pikmin so he has to drag creatures to the onion to create more
Maybe. But I seem to recalling reading an entry of his in Pikmin 2 or something where he states something along the lines of that the only reason he doesn’t try eating Pikmin is because he doesn’t want to upset them due to just how ferocious they can be toward their enemies.
@@awkwardsilence4427yeah plus Louie states that he doesn't eat those that aid him in his food conquest which explains why he never tried to eat moss or the sirehound also why couldn't we fight Louie controlling the Sirehound and the Shrooms Pikmin
Lord what I wouldn't give for a Hard Mode and also maybe a DLC Area. Maybe themed around a Garage or something. Or really any of the cave themes. A full on empty pet story full of various terrariums would be haunting, honestly.
Ok so knowing fully well as a pikmin game that this is genuinely good. My question is WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THE HUMANS? originally people guessed that it was something to do with nuclear winter or a massive meteorite due to it's size killed earth's population, but now with the intro _literally having olimar fly through an untouch house no damage in sight_ ...i gotta ask WHERE'D THEY GO?
If I had a nickel for every space game with a captain named Shepherd, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it’s happened twice now.
I've never played a Pikmin game before, but this one looked cute and fun and the graphics looked so pretty, so I decided to give it a go. I'm 3 hours in and already obsessed, I would die for these little guys
Before pikmin 4 came out I literally stayed up late to play it as soon as I could. I remember shaking at how excited I was to play it. It just did not feel real. I literally waited like 66% of my life for that game.
A retcon is the only way they can explain Olimar still having a career piloting a ship despite numerous crashes
Considering hocotate freight is always in debt and only has 2 employees, one being Louie, the president can't afford to fire Olimar
It's mentioned somewhere (I think) that Olimar is the company's best employee
He can't really be fired simply due to the fact that they'd be losing their only competent employee

Pikmin 4 is simply perfect. I have zero complaints honestly. So glad we got this game and hoping the series continues to grow.
I've developed a theory that the dogs are somehow related to breadbugs based on the similar general body plan and a decent number of similar behaviors, the giant breadbugs even charging; there's even the fact that both have a small one and a big one
i thought oatchi and moss were grub-dogs
@@bowser_the_flamingshellthe breadbug species is a whole family and the dwarf bulborb is actually from the breadbug family mimicking the normal ones (grub dogs) to fall in
@@ABulbmin oops i think i worded my comment wrong. i was talking about oatchi and moss sorry
i like bulbmins
@@bowser_the_flamingshell ohhh ty for clarification
bulbmin ftw 🗣️💯
Gotta bump this comment
Same
Easily my new favorite Pikmin title. But for me, I love emptying out the place just so I can focus on everything else.
man tho i still cant believe we finally got this, AND all 3 pikmin games on switch, truly is the best timeline
This was hilarious and I want to say stay awesome and have a good rest of the day and keep putting smiles on people's faces
This game was worth every year of the wait. And yes it is one of the best games Nintendo has ever made. The hard work throughout all those years shined through beautifully. It's probably my favorite game of all time even
Seeing every Pikmin type in the thumbnail reminded me of how much joy that fact brought me playing this.
Can’t wait for Pikmin 5 in 18 years
I'd say don't jinx it, but you're probably right
I think of it less as a retcon, and more of a timeline split. Then again, i'm a big zelda fan so of course that would be my first assumption LMAO
Nintendo really hit it out of the park this year with two phenomenal games already and a third one around the corner. Also Wario
This video speaks not only to why I loved Pikmin 4 so much, but why many of us love the series! Also I agree, hey Pikmin gets a bad rep!
What’s cool is that this game doesn’t invalidate Pikmin 3 Deluxe! They coexist well as different experiences. Like updates to the Pikmin 1 & 2 experiences for modern times
What I don't understand is when you defeat enemies on the surface they don't respawn. They respawn in cave why not on the surface?
I think your original pikmin videos are what got me into the series in the first place; super cool to see another video on pikmin!
Every time AntDude uploads, it's like Christmas 🎁
I almost completely forgot about the Remember Me? meme. Thank you for that
The sequel a decade in the making.
Fun fact: the file names for the Koppaite’s is literally Alph, Brittany, and Charlie.
no? it was that their files was never used
I really wish Pikman 4 would have a split coop mode some day.
I'm not sure why this game being an alternate timeline is that big of an issue. A what if story about the bad ending of the first game is awesome.
Seeing my favourite youtubers talking about Pikmin makes me so happy!
Bernard is Saint Bernard,
Yonny is the only one I'm iffy on but I think it's named after the Papillion.
(Spoilers below)
The description for the Ancient Sirehound hints at dogs and humans being connected to these strange small people and dog like things in space is also maybe an explanation for these names.
@@lightdarksoul2097yeah bc nobody likes Charlie ig lol
I want to point out, its not just the Beagle and Shepherd, EVERY SINGLE character, rescue corps and castaways alike, are named after dog breeds.
Also, much like Olimar is Mario backwards and Louie is the first syllable of Luigi, Oatchi is clearly a riff on Yoshi.
I need a mug that says Live, Laugh, Dandori.
I've never really been into the Pikmin series, but seeing your love for is just as sweet as the little guys! This game really is gorgeous!! 😊
3 deluxe is still my gem in the series. 4 is great, but I thought it took some things away that hurt it too much.
Finally someome who agrees with me. I love this game, but 3 is better in every way imo
Thank you, I was worried that I was the only one who likes 3 more than 4. Worse Pikmin balance, worse control, and worse boss fights, along with Oatchi breaking the game in half, seven or so types of items when maybe three of them are any use, pretty uninteresting characters that never stop talking, and lower production value (no CG cutscenes or dynamic lighting) make me wonder why Antdude and others have such high praise for it
4 might just be my least favorite Pikmin in fact, if it weren't for the fact that it's still Pikmin at its core I may not have finished it
Had such an amazing time with this game! Great video ant!
Can this dude cover yokai watch sometime he looks like the person that could do it
Yes, please cover yo kai watch
I seriously didn't expect Pikmin 1s bad ending to be canon now
13:28 😂 that was perfect timing and editing
"Are we really caring about the deep pikmin continuity now?"
Yes the hell i am
Best pikmin? Hell no😂
Which one's your favorite?
it's easily the worst
Nah pikmin 2 is kinda ass and overhyped (in my top 20 games tho)
They did the "we're working on pikmin" article again.
I love how Louie being a pos is so consistent across all games. It's such a good uniting factor for fans, maybe we don't agree on all things, but we all hate Louie.
1:34 us psychonauts fans had to wait almost 10 years for a true sequel, with only a VR game in between
16:28 YOOOOOO THATS MY FOOTAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That’s awesome that it got that big to be used in this video!!!!!!!!!!
8:37
Ant dude:"louie doesn't count"
Louie:*turns his head to the screen*" you what"
I view pikmin 4 as a "reboot" but still keeping major aspects the same while it's own touch.
That persona reference.. yes. It did make me happy. Thank you Mr. Antdude
That was a great video and a wonderful homage to one of Nintendo's most spectacular series.
Ok so knowing fully well as a pikmin game that this is genuinely good. My question is WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THE HUMANS?
originally people guessed that it was something to do with nuclear winter or a massive meteorite due to it's size killed earth's population, but now with the intro _literally having olimar fly through an untouch house no damage in sight_
...i gotta ask WHERE'D THEY GO?
29:01 THE PIKMIN FORESKIN???? WHAT?
If I had a nickel for every space game with a captain named Shepherd, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it’s happened twice now.
pikmin was my favorite childhood franchise. pikmin 4 came out on my birthday. was a joyous day
I've never played a Pikmin game before, but this one looked cute and fun and the graphics looked so pretty, so I decided to give it a go.
I'm 3 hours in and already obsessed, I would die for these little guys
I love how this came out just as I finished watching all your other Pikmin videos
I was introduced to Pikmin on the Wii U and this franchise has never made me happier.
I've finally done it! I watched every single video you've uploaded and I can't wait for more
Before pikmin 4 came out I literally stayed up late to play it as soon as I could. I remember shaking at how excited I was to play it. It just did not feel real. I literally waited like 66% of my life for that game.
the Persona comparison DID make me happy and I thought about this too, thank you Ant
When a Leafling challenged me by saying "Show me your Dandori", I knew I was playing a masterpiece
The only thing I dislike about Pikmin 4 is that it doesn’t smell alive.
