This seems like the perfect episode for Dunkey to narrate. The crazy backstory for this game, that many people probably didn't even know existed, almost seemed like one of his out of nowhere rants he's known for.

The board exploding into a giant pizza wasn't the real end of it though; In the video footage that this comes from, the demo ended with the giant pizza being inserted into a Gamecube, after it shook off all the Marios and blocks.

I was thinking the same thing, even though Superstar Saga is a fundamentally different genre,it truly seems that every aspect of Super Mario 128 was broken up and utilized in other game. It kinda feels like it didn't matter if it never came out because it's prototypes resulted in the gimmicks of at least 3 other games.
Even though he's talking normally, it still feels like he's making a joke.

I have been thinking of putting my own little analysis together on a ton of things and start making videos. I have alot to say about these things and you guys inspire me, keep up the good work.

While people in the comments joke about how Dunkey sounds like he's doing a skit or joking around, if you take a look at his reviews, videos on the industry, and even his old League stuff, the guy has always shown a true passion for what he's talking about. His videos have always been pretty engaging and jokes about knack and Bowser's Bean Burrito and beating Sky in Smash aside, I've always come away from them feeling like I learned something new, and this video was definitely no exception.
Great work to everyone involved in this one, this is probably my favorite episode of DYKG yet.

Dunkey's unique cadence at times makes it sound like he's about to go into a joke and I keep expecting him to bust something out.
Good video. It's really interesting how the creative process can turn out. You may not release the project you thought you were, but you can recycle ideas into other projects to make something unexpected but enjoyable!

The first time you get a 1-Up in Mario Galaxy, it says “You earned one additional Mario!”, hinting at the multiple Marios of Mario 128. Couple that with the fact that both games revolve around a planetoid and it’s safe to say they knew what they were doing when they wrote that.
I never played Galaxy but if is that true, then is actually really interesting.
Later on, Miyamoto would go on to develop Knack 3: "And this time, there's bombs in it"

So, did Nintendo purposely ripped apart Mario's 128 revolutionary design into a 20+ year plan to release bits of that design one at a time in different Mario games, to establish some stability in the future instead of letting go of all that masterpiece at once and fade away?

Each of the games it influenced still took years to develop. I think it’s more likely the project was just so ambitious it was hard to work on or that they had trouble making a cohesive vision out of all the ideas.

Hearing Dunkey say something that isn't a joke or him laughing is surreal. It's like every line I'm expecting for the episode to derail and just spiral into insanity.
Not gonna lie, near the end I was expecting Dunkey to just keep talking before it being abruptly cut off for the credits.
