  • If You Want A Seiko SPB143. Then Now Is The Time To Get One.
    Its the cheapest its ever been, and it will be discontinued in a few months.
    Get one while you still can, it won't be available for much longer.
    After years of immersing myself in photography and enjoying watches, I've now combined the two by creating a TH-cam channel. The primary objective of this channel is to share my watch collection with fellow enthusiasts and occasionally review watches borrowed from family and friends. While I may not have the latest and greatest watches for review, I hope my videos give you some inspiration on your next watch purchase. Thank you for watching, and I wish you the best in your watch journey. And remember, the only person who needs to like the watch on your wrist is you.

    A big chuck of the comments on this video bring up the poor accuracy of the Seiko 6R35 caliber. Im not discounting anyone's claims on the poor performance they experienced with the SPB143, and I think it would be interesting to share my own experience with the 6R35 with an update every couple of months or so.
    As of 25th May 2024, and 6 months from buying the watch.
    Watch is running +1 second per day with a 0.2 beat error.

    I've had mine more than 3 years. Love it. Even in a collection of many more expensive swiss and seiko watches, its one of my favorites.

    From the moment I first saw the SPB213 on the Seiko website I fell in love with it, and purchased it as soon as I could! I loved it so much, in fact, I purchased the SPB147 gilt dial just 6 months later! And they have both continued to be some of my absolute favorite watches to wear for 3 yrs now.

    We share the same kind of story with the watch. I first laid eyes on the model when it first released in 2020. Fell in love instantly. 1400€ msrp in Finland was way too much for me at the time. The first time I tried it on at an AD was late 2021 - Still, totally in love but still the price was a no go coming from a Seiko 5 background.
    Years went by, and this was in my instagram feed nonstop, so you could say that I was pretty familiar with the watch already although not owning it. Finally on march 2024 I pulled the trigger when i saw the launch of the updated version. It felt wrong with the date window position and the "automatic 3 days" text. Also gone was the grey sunburst dial.
    Almost 2 months of owning the spb143 and wearing it everyday (or atleast part of the day) I could not be happier. All the years of seeing the watch in social media/youtube you'd think that the watch has become oversaturated to me but no - Everytime when I look at the watch I smile, atleast internally. It makes me happy. Also, the watch is manufactured on my 1st childs birth year, so yeah - its a keeper.

      Bought mine in April 2021, as a birthday present for myself. A local jewelry franchise (Kultajousi, for my fellow finnish spb143 owner) had an offer for -20% for pretty much everything, so I was able to get it for 960 euros. Got me hooked on watches, so half a year later bought a Black Bay 58. Ended up selling the Tudor, since I always preferred to grab the spb143. Still, 3 years later, I constantly find myself staring at it. Also, averaging about 2 secs a day, so no complaints on accuracy either.

    I REALLY wanted to love this watch. And I did, but the QC on my version was horrible. There was debris under my crystal, and my movement was -30 a day. I don't understand how such an expensive watch would make it to market with these flaws, but I really enjoyed how the watch wore on my wrist.

    I bought one of the first generation 143s without the lume at 3 o’clock. I loved the looks and the way it wore on the wrist. The 6r35 movement however on my watch at least was very poor. It was extremely variable in timekeeping and was between -10 to -25 seconds off per day. I took it to a local watchmaker who regulated it for me (free of charge) but advised that the movement was so unstable it would soon be varying widely again, hence waiving the charge, He was right. The 6r35 is basically a 6r15😢 with a longer mainspring to increase power reserve. This has come at the cost of accuracy. I sold the watch and replaced it with a Swiss watch for a similar price running a Sellita movement, accurate to +5s / day. The SPB 143 is a great looking watch and if you get one with a stable 6r35 movement then you are fortunate. I didn’t and will no longer buy Seiko mechanical watches.

    • @WatchFocus8800
      @WatchFocus8800  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The 6R movement in the 143 was definitely in there to manage the cost. But a better movement would have driven the price high like the SLA models. Enjoy your Swiss watch, I have a Sellita SW200 and it's great.

    • @kresimirpleic
      @kresimirpleic หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      That is because 6R35 is the worst movement in the world as far as serious watches are concerned (so, I'm not including some Chinese movements or no name movements here). No other mechanical automatic movement on the market is as consistently unreliable as the 6R35. It has a big window of stated accuracy, shows loads of positional variance, it can gain or lose time on a whim, and there are numerous reports of it simply dying a few months after buying a brand new watch. It should be noted that this can all happen with ANY movement on the market regardless of the brand. However, with 6R35 it is the sheer frequency of these reports that makes a lot of buyers to consider it an immediate deal breaker. The chances of getting a bad 6R35 are so high compared to other serious movement manufacturers that you are literally taking a risk buying a Seiko in that range. And don't forget that 6R35 equipped watches are not cheap. Of course they can run great, as you said yourself, but why take a risk when every other movement in the price range mops the floor with the Seiko?

    Really? You think $1200 is a lot for a Seiko? 🤔. Brand new they’re usually negotiable even from authorized retailers. With that being said there’s a ton of Seikos that are $2k-$5k. Whether the value perceived by you isn’t there is one thing but to me $1200 is the sweet spot for a Seiko. You usually get a high quality movement which is the mid 6R as you said. A sapphire crystal and the finish is usually very high quality and in general the watch usually looks very nice at that price tier.

      @wayneturner1336 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      100% It’s entirely on track for the quality of the watch. People got too used to seiko knocking out turtles and Skx’s for 300$ that were dive certified, seikos just charging appropriate prices now.

      @WatchFocus8800  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree with everything you say, but like @wayneturner1336 said, I got used to seeing Seikos for $300 a pop. So, seeing one for $1000 or more could come as a shock. The quality is there though and it's well worth it.

      @@WatchFocus8800 I feel like most are over $1k now. I just bought the new limited edition colored marinemaster and that was a little shock for me for a Seiko. But well worth the $2800 which I did get for slightly less.

      @TheCdM1981 these Seikos are really getting pricey.

    • @TheCdM1981

      @@WatchFocus8800 I mean they were always pricey depending on model. In the early 2000’s a Matinemaster 300 was $1800-$2k. To put that into perspective. In regard to inflation in 2003 if you bought a MM300 for $1800 that’s equal to over $3000 in 2024. So it’s actually in essence more affordable now in regard to the current value of a dollar. The issue is people get lost in the “cheap” or more affordable watches Seiko has or does make and thinks that’s what price tier they Seiko offers. Never was true. They offer different tiers of quality which equal different tiers of prices. That’s why Seiko confuses things with different lines like “Grand Seiko” and to an extent even “King Seiko.” It’s to make people feel more comfortable with spending $10k on a Seiko. Branding is everything.

    Never pay full retail for a Seiko. You can always get a discount of 30-45% depending on the model and the ADs willingness to discount. So making a video asking if anyone is willing to pay full retail for a Seiko is pretty pointless and daft.
