I'm an ex squaddie (infantry for 10 years) and have been wild camping with mates for many years. In all those years I have never done any solo stuff. I came across your channel and you inspired me to go and do my first solo. I did it last night up high in the Snowdonian National Park which is just down the road from me. I absolutely loved it. I could do things at my own pace and lots of time to really take it all in. So thanks mate and all the best.

Try taking a bivi abroad. It's so liberating to walk out of an airport with zero itinerary. Flights are dead cheap nowadays so if you take your own accommodation it's just a matter of matching the cheapest flights to your free time. Skyscanner even has an "everywhere " search. You can put your dates in and choose the cheapest destination. One way to make sure you explore places you wouldn't normally ! It's not your normal holiday but I've found myself in resorts where I've stayed with my mates or my partner in really great hotels and apartments - and I've enjoyed my solo wild camping trip just as much. Our country is lovely but the weather......it's a whole other world in winter in the Canaries 😎 John

@low7782 haha I will....if I ever finish rebuilding it ! But seriously, much as I love vans and will defo do an extended stay in one abroad, you can't beat the fredom of a 3kg pack and nowhere to be back to except the airport for your flight home. 😎 Happy travels. John

I do alot of wild camping in Cornwall where I live. If it's just a single night I put a really nice steak in a zip lock bag with garlic and rosemary butter then freeze it over night. The morning I leave I pack said frozen steak in my bag, by the time I'm ready to set up for the night my lovely steak is ready to cook. I also take a bottle of red.

Hi Paul. Thanks for the vid. I use the same bivi and air pad wild camping in South of France, Switzerland and in winter...Gran Canaria. Flights on Skyscannner are so cheap if you can be flexible when you go. I use my Rab Neutrino as a wearable sleeping bag on the rare occasions I need one. My pack is basically a wet bag with straps at 300g. I can go on a December holiday to the Canary sunshine for under 100 quid. For me this is what lightweight camping gear was made for lol. Happy travels everyone. John

TH-cam recommended this video to me out of the blue and I have to say that this is some of the purest and most beautiful content I have ever seen. Great shots, great calming audio and just the simple bliss of the setting all together make a beautiful video. I greatly encourage this style you have going it is extremely refreshing coming from the "mainstream" side of TH-cam and all the drama that most people watch. Thankyou
(If I could make one change, I would ever so slightly add in a tiny amount of wind noise to just dip the viewer into the setting just a little more but keep it up, subscribed)

Nice little 'tent'. Getting sorted out in the morning would be an issue if it was peeing down rain. I use a Blade2 that gives me enough room to drag some of my pannier stuff inside. The Peak District is somewhere I've seen on a few videos but never actually walked in. It looks fantastic. Different from the Lakes and the Trossachs! This is tempting me to get out with the bicycle and tent. Even the sound of the gas cooker starting up is great. Hopefully, I'll manage something before the summer disappears. Lovely video. I have a single hooped Goretex bivi bag. For a long time, I worried that I would suffocate if I slept with the zip closed. I slept on a slope one night with the zip slightly open for ventilation and woke up with the bottom end of the bag sloshing with rainwater. I eventually forced myself to spend a whole night int it with the entrance fully zipped up - after all, if there was a real risk of suffocation, they'd put additional ventilation in... wouldn't they? I survived. I need to do this sort of thing more often. Thanks for your inspirational video.

If you use the Bivi a lot check out the Macpac Bush Cocoon. It zips down the side so easier to get in to, the side has a bug net to so I normally leave the bivi unzipped with just the bug mesh to prevent condensation. Also the head area is on an angle so a surprising amount of room at the top, easily fit a backpack in. I use it a lot for motorcycle camping, only downside is the price but they become a lot more reasonable when on sale.

I just remembered this post after seeing Macpac are now selling the Bushcocoon again and it's currently on sale which I think is a lot fairer price than the rrp. Just don't take one of those bivis out on a rainy night. Going to toilet in night in hammering rain, then trying to get back in makes you realise how awkward they are in the wet. Impossible to get into without doing the reverse crawl on wet ground. Great for fair weather and when you need to keep low to ground and out of high winds. Good videos
